    I play mostly slices 1 and 5 and I really can't say I notice any difference. The skew must only apply to certain join times or otherwise to the players comfortably into the level 500+ MMR.

    There's a couple things about mmr that hasn't been discussed yet. It doesn't matter which slice you play in, you're not gonna see the grills till you get to +/-900 points. The other thing is even in s1/s4 if you climb in the last 8 or especially last 3 hours you're gonna see way less targets.

    (Almost) every match that anyone does adds points to the overall pool in the slice -- that is, the person who wins gets more positive points than the loser gets negative points. So more players doing more matches creates more points for everyone.

    Whether those points are accessible to you is another question. They might be attached to players who are shielded, or players you can't see because the game thinks the fights are too hard for you.

    There are also ways to destroy overall points, but they mostly don't get used in the more populated slices. If you want the easiest progression, pick 1 or 4. If you want easier placement go to one of the others.
