I’m not max-max ascending. It’s going pretty good for the most part. It's suboptimal in terms of rewards math, but the question I always have is what would you DO with the extra rewards?
Like a bunch of folks say "I'd never use those characters anyway." And that's fine, but which characters WOULD you use, then? Are you targeting those other characters with the extra rewards you're getting?
If your strategy is "get the most rewards" without some kind of larger goal, then I just don't understand that.
I know my playstyle and yours are not in sync, but very glad to answer the question "And that's fine, but which characters WOULD you use, then?".
Ascended 550 4Jugs, Polaris, Grocket and M'Baku are probably the only ones I would use. All the other 4s (again, this is just to me), I would doubtful ever play in PVE or PVP unless required.

The next meta release. Whenever the next mthor (PvP offense), Chasm (deterrent) or Golden May (PVE speed) gets released, you have stockpiled much more CP and LT pulls to 550 that character out of the gate due to all the extra rewards you’ve amassed not ascending Spider-Woman and collecting those sweet sweet rewards. Not to mention the potential for a double dip while waiting to ascend.
That makes sense, although it does assume that the next "meta" guy will be a new 5*.
1 -
It would really make sense to release a meta ascended low level character at this point, since those characters can’t be favorited. Selling pre-ascended versions saves you a fraction of your life in RNG

Slight deviation from exact topic but:
I think ascension has become one of, if not the hardest aspect of this game to know what choices are best. Especially around the 4* tier.
One of the first 4/5 I could ascend was for some reason Mordo. Mordo is OK but I think I ascended him more because I could than it being a plan. I certainly didn't max/max him. I don't think I have used him since?
I've found myself trapped in the middle to a large extent. I had a plan of "ascend Polaris" but now that is complete I don't have a clue what to do as my 370's are starting to rack up. I am building dupes but I don't know yet if I am going to ascend them. Some like Peggy and Th4r Jane can be ascended and the dupe sits at 70 but I have hesitated. I might as well spend the iso at some point though right, or what is the point of the dupe?
The cover swap scenario has provided an interesting altenative and I have utilised it a few times, especially where the swap resulted in getting 1000 HP back or 25CP.
I don't know whether I feel this game hasn't been on a level plain since ascension was introduced - I can 100% understand why it was done but I don't know that I have ever been 100% won over.

Is that list based on power level, or your favorites from comics/movies, or something else?
If it's power level, how do you know that some other character isn't that powerful at 550? M'baku really wasn't on any power level lists until a few months after ascension. How does someone get added to the list?
0 -
I think I've only ascended about 30 4 stars. Yes, most of them still get no use. My roster has two 550's: Okoye and Shang Chi.
I don't have them anywhere near 550, but this is the list of those I use regularly unboosted: America Chavez, Blob, Deadpool, Doop, Juggernaut, Karnak, Mantis, Medusa, Prof X, Nightcrawler, Rocket/Groot, some of the spider people when I need to get web tiles, and Wolverine. I almost am ready to add Mbaku to the list, just a few covers.
I usually wait until they have a boost week to ascend. If I waited for max/max, I'd probably be dead in most cases and I'm almost 50.
1 -
I max/max the 4s and 1s. The 4s because I am targeting them with shards and I'd rather have them immediately useful with my 550s when they are boosted and the 1*s because I play a lot of lightning rounds and they add up quick. I'll dupe the 4s when I finish them at 5 since the rewards are pretty good at both spots. Same with the 1s.
2* and 3* I max / min +1 because they take much longer to acquire. Especially the 3s. The one exception was for my first 3a5 I max/maxed IM40. It took long enough to cure me of the desire to do them that way. I do use him every day though so it had some utility. Once I have 550s of the 2s and 3*s someday I will just make dupes and run them as reward factories.

If your strategy is "get the most rewards" without some kind of larger goal, then I just don't understand that.
I get the question, and there are lots of people out there who hoard almost everything, but I actually don't. I've gone down to under 4K hero points in the past (about two months ago, actually,) and I've run out of Legendary Pulls as well. Right now I'm sitting on around 600 Legendary Pulls, but that's mostly because while I'm planning on finishing Agatha, I'm doing it a bit at a time since I don't want to be stuck looking at my hoard and going, "I'm bored, I wanna pull something." Deferred gratification, that sort of thing.
So yeah, all those extra rewards get channeled into everything else. I'm post-Iso, so that doesn't matter, but more or less everything else will get spent.
As far as knowing what's useful, to extent it doesn't matter that much if you ascend 370/370. 475 is a very useful level when boosted, it's definitely "good enough." I like to level the ones I think I'll use when boosted further, in the end that's roughly half of my 4|5★'s but that's mostly because it's the game I want to play. You can definitely make an argument for duping them all unless you're short on roster slots. (And because of those amazing vaults, I have like 200 extra roster slots.)

I agree with all of this. Ascension has made roster management much more complicated, because it's, like, impossible to know who's actually good now until you ascend them (or somebody else does and shares them, I guess). The powers are all kept secret from us, for reasons I don't understand.
I have almost all the 4* at 5* and I'm still discovering old characters I forgot about. Once the 3* start getting high level I've got no idea what the game will look like for me.
M'baku is a great example of this. Yeah, he got a bit of speculation in the first ascension threads, but enough people have got him now that he's moved onto the "usable unboosted" list. How confident can we be that we've discovered the whole list? I am not at all confident!

As a side note, I'm particularly happy that M'Baku got pushed. I attack him a lot.

Power level. I don't know about others because, for whatever reason, the devs don't want us to know everything. But I do look at what others play and what I attack and haven't seen others anywhere near as powerful in PVP or PVE.
I know you don't value speed (at least from some of your other comments) but I do. And there is absolutely nothing in the 4* Ascended, that I can tell, that is faster in PVE than what I use with AM/Emma/Thanos. And for PVP I haven't seen any others beyond what I listed above.
Totally understand if people enjoy others, but I don't and don't see any ascended 4s worthwhile besides what is mentioned in the above list.

Of course I value speed!
In PvP.
I'm looking to beat enemies as many times as possible, as fast as possible. I couldn't care less about PvE, that's boring and it's solved. The fastest team is Aunt May plus whoever, and you win everything turn 0.
In PvP I'm looking for the fastest possible team with decent defensive value, and it's almost always lvl650+ boosted characters, often ascended ones. I don't bother running anything under 600 or so, and unboosted enemy teams of any composition are generally just a speed bump.

Interesting. In PVP I just run my 550 SC/MT no matter what with boosts. Can tear through everything, including defensive teams with boosted characters. Not a problem at all. So, again, nothing 550 Ascended 4* really matters to me.
And with Leapfrog and Eros, I rarely get attacked from a defensive standpoint or, if I do, I win defensively about 50% of the time.

That's insane. I target that team with those supports and farm then repeatedly, often for 5 points a fight. Depending on what I've got boosted, I can take them out in a minute, or two max. I never lose those fights. They do beat me, but not 100% of the time, and never as fast as I beat them.

Then you have found the perfect slice and should stay there, because I also actively target that team and can pretty much beat it every time with just match dmg, supports or not. Your Thor even becomes an ally, destroying the AI's invisibility tiles.

But none of this has to do with the target at hand. Whom, exactly, are the 4*s actually worth ascending? If I'm missing any, beyond the ones I mentioned, I'm happy to learn.

If you don't like or aren't interested in playing boosted characters it's probably a pretty short list, but it's definitely longer than the one you've got. @captainheath posted one a few posts back that's closer, but I bet it's missing a few, and I bet there are some more that nobody knows about yet.
If you don't like those guys though, or prefer the ones you use now, then they won't do anything for you.
If you do play the boosted characters it's seriously something like 80, 85% of the entire tier.

I think @Tiger_Wong and @WhiteBomber have really great insights on different characters too.
