Anniversary Thoughts (So Far)

I remember previous anniversaries where you got tokens for even logging into the game, or the vaults were WAY better (looking at you, last year) or everything was just fun. This year is a giant MEH. There isn't anything really fun about it and the anniversary events, vaults, everything is just not that exciting.

On the plus side, I am spending zero HP so I will have a giant stash still in store after the anniversary.

The vaults were cheaper and had better rewards in past years. Limited characters were more prevalent. Some rare PVPs. This year we got... zombie gangsters and a couple of new costumes. Oh, and Headpool. It would have been nice to get someone obscure, like Rocket Racer or U.S. 1.

Last year was Quandary. Boss Rush V1 was an anniversary event. I'm pretty sure Galactus V1 was an anniversary event.

Anniversary threads are full of complaints about events, rewards, tokens, vaults...I don't know why everyone gets hype for these every year and then gets upset about them. If you're expecting something big it's on you.

Spider-Ham in event rotations?

When I started pulling him from classics and applying the covers it was almost a novel experience. Other than feeding from Iron May, he hadn't been touched in a long time.

I assume they use Doop because he is available to newer players.

You can get Ham out of the Battle at the Basilica’s final round but my alliance has never done it.

The vaults were not 119 big and the cost was less. Way less. I emptied them several times. And they rotated every week. This is completely not the same thing. This year's one mega vault is completely different than last year's many changing vaults.

The distorting effects value creep has on memory and perception is real. Sure, that vault is an improved version of the usual template. But intervening offers can make it seem worse by comparison. One years amazing deal is meh the next year. The effect made all the worse as the games economy changes and grows faster year after year. Thus the importance of keeping records, it's the only way to maintain objectivity!

The introduction of slots as a winnable / purchasable item, tho still a very recent (relatively) development in the game, has had a hugely distorting effect on perception and memory. I see it posted often, "no slots = ****, no matter what else is offered".

The anniversary vault is fine, I've pulled 2/3rds of it, but haven't spent much HP on it (other than daily 100hp pulls) .... because I've been burning it on the zombies vault. Which is a good enough offer, to me.

The anniversary is fine, a big uptick in loot and much of it easily obtainable. And the Zombies theme has been long requested.

Nothing pleases everyone and complainers are more motivated to voice their opinion. Same old. When Mephisto underwhelms--most character designs do!--the disappointment will be complete. I hope

There was a Dec, Jan, then a Feb Deals vault, then March Madness, then Spring Cleaning.

Actually I'm not 100% certain on Feb ... Memory fading .... !

These vaults ran for weeks each. Was a crazy, unprecedented run.Then there was a month with a similar vault that was on and off, alternating weeks. .... Or that may have been Spring Cleaning? Again memory fades ... the

Anyway yes it was this run that did much to distort memories and expectations. Nothing else is seen as good enough.

In an (intentionally) complex and obfuscated system, it's natural to glom on to simple black or white rules to simplify decisions and use as easily understood and communicated justification. And in this game, prior to the past year, buying things often meant spending again for the privilege of keeping what was just bought. Been there.

Still amazed that the devs turned slots into an item at all. Offerings of such have been few this anniversary. Are they winding up the playerbase
for some "killer deal"? I hope so.

Goodness knows every precedent must be repeated lest there be an outcry!

I couldn't believe they made the roster slot vaults re-settable, I think if anything that might explain why we don't get them any more!

The previous Anniversary which was BCS first was the first one to have 5* in vaults and so possibly players are remembering that one too as it was a big exciting change (now of course completely normal!)

Was it last year with the killer 5* support vaults or was that 2years ago.

I think they were definitely during anniversary but not sure which one. Whichever year that was, was the best anniversary.

In June we had some very good vaults which ran only for a weekend - each one- which limited their resettability/opportunity for people with huge amounts of hp to exploit.

One factor in the game economy is that people who play hard enough build up rosters where they routinely get high level champ rewards from 4s and 5s which have very good ROI and make HP buying completely optional. What to do? It’s a conundrum. Offer high value vault contents? Then players have even better rosters.

The plates keep spinning but feel wobblier than before.
