Hero pts Vs. Recruit Character Cost

Hi all, I'm leaving the discussion here because I think it has merit and could be quite interesting. But:
1) Please be respectful.
2) Don't feed the troll. Just flag, report and ignore.
3) Keep on the good side of the forum rules.1 -
Here's the alternative path I took...
Play everything.
Open everything.
Earn as many rewards as possible.
Only spend HP on roster slots.
Favorite characters that will help you win more rewards.
Only spend iso on characters that will help you win.
Secondly, only spend iso on characters that have lots of saved covers. When you don't have enough roster slots, let comics sit on the vine until you know that they won't be required for PvE or DDQ before they expire. After all, selling comics gets you iso, which you really need (though you'll likely be flush with iso while most of your characters have nine or fewer covers). Use one roster slot as a rotating slot so that you can recruit a character for PvE or DDQ when needed. However, it's important that you keep covers for characters that will help you win; be prepared to kill a darling.

Trying to stick to just the question that was asked "new characters VS available HP":
I think it all hinges on where you are at roster-wise; as someone who has every character slotted I feel I can earn enough to slot the 3 new characters they release per month. However, I play a lot (usually top 20 in PVE and P, finish all daily missions etc.) and went HAM on the Fan Favorites vaults with the extra slots in them.
I have multiple IRL friends who I sucked in to this game and their roster is no where near complete, and for them, this game is more like nightmare training in patience. So, I kind of agree with you, that if you are at that stage (not enough characters already slotted), the economy is really bad and makes you feel bad. Their only options are:
- Spend more money than one should on a game
- Hold on to all of your resources and have someone who has been playing for years help you understand how and when to use them
- Sell a bunch of rewards that you earned for basically nothing
To me (personally) none of those options come with good feelings. I also wish they would slow down on the new releases so people could catch up a little. Many of us in the post HP category face a similar problem with ISO, but it's far less frustrating because I don't have to toss away resources or sit on them for years.
It's impossible to say that they are ripping people off though because we have no idea how many people are actually playing and buying these things. I do (personally) believe that this games economy is bad at best, especially for anyone who hasn't been around since the beginning. Having seen how many other games handle it, it feels excruciatingly slow and expensive.
My guess is ascension is what pushed you to this point, if that is the case, I totally understand your frustration. I LOVE the end result of ascension, but holy hell is balancing all of them and trying to get slots for them a giant load of ****.

I always got the impression that MPQ's economy was pretty decent, compared to the other popular games of this type from around the same time (free to play mobile games with microtransactions/gatcha collector games). These games exploded in popularity right around/shortly after MPQ showed up, and many of them were really exploitative.
I'm pretty sure "games of this type" are sort of a dying breed though, and I have zero idea of what the mobile games industry looks like today.

Slightly off topic, but does apply to the roster slot issue - How about a "Merge Characters " Feature for the latest ascended characters?
A lot of the Ascended 3 Stars / Green 4 Stars I have are being duplicated with the Ascended Covers received in the Seasonal Vaults. Although the Dupe will be helpful in a year or two when the cover reaches Level 370 for 5 Star Ascension, right now it is only taking up a roster slot that will never be used.
Merging the 2 covers would apply all the levels to the one cover, and then free up a roster slot. If the Merge causes a cover to go above the max, it would create a new cover with the remaining levels.
I'm sure it would be a programming nightmare, but a huge quality of life feature. Also, I will never again have to choose which character to give a new cover to, which is really slow and annoying.
Another problem this solves is my 3* ascended Hulk got a 4* Dupe from a Seasonal Vault, and now there is a 3rd 4* Dupe in the "That's a Steel" Vault. There is no use for the 3rd 4* Dupe since it only takes 2 to 5* ascend. A Merging feature would put these covers to use.
I agree that I have been buying a ton of slots, and it is mostly from the Ascended Covers found in the Seasonal Vaults. Merging these covers would solve this problem.
That is all I have, thank you for reading my rant.

This was pretty much my approach, and it got me to a full roster pretty quick (currently have all but about 20 characters rostered, all 5s). I'm currently having to kill a few duplicate 1/2/3 stars on the vine, but that's okay. It facilitates rapid growth for the resources that matter, and new covers are the one thing that's never in short supply. I'm also impatient, so it might not be the most optimized path, but it keeps the dopamine flow coming.

Brother, this whole discussion would've been avoided if you learned how to hoard and if you could say no to the temptation.
Just follow these easy two steps and you'll never find yourself in a spot where you'll have expiring covers.
1) don't open tokens if you have space for new characters
2) don't pull from vaults if you have space for new characters as well0 -
1200 cost for roster slot. guy is trolling or doing terrible roster management.

Just as everyone thought from the start..speeding up or play fast by rostering more..
But MPQ is not a race, it is a marathon. New players will find it difficult to roster dozens of characters in early stages. Patience is the key for hero point accumulation. At least now, the devs are incorporating roster slots in the rewards.0 -
We are dealing with an experienced player here who should be well on top of roster management by now and so this is I believe a tantrum (they have history of other such belligerent forum behaviour). I don't understand the claim that characters are being released at too fast a pace to keep up when there has been no noticeable change apart from the release of 2* Rhodey to the release pattern. What I think their issue is is that Anniversary has had too much in terms of available content for them to keep up the way they like to do with their usual buffer. If you open tokens you risk getting covers that you may need to roster and if there are good vaults then you might have to choose between them and roster management.
In respect of the larger picture - exactly how are the Devs meant to keep the lights on if players always get exactly what they need to advance and never ever have to consider purchases or game management or the like?

Lower tier rewards haven’t changed as far as I can tell, so this adds more time to advance their rosters.1 -
I suspect this player hit on a bunch of 3->4 ascended characters in the vault. You need a roster slot for those and if you hit on 6-7 such characters along with the new Headpool etc you could find yourself short on slots.
But if that happened its better to just dump progress in a regular 3 (something between 166-266) and roster the ascended version. You need 300 covers before it gets to 370 so you have years before you need to worry about another slot for that character.

Really, who knows because the guy spazzed out. I just threw out my guess.

So you say it is my fault for opening covers I earned ? slots are 1200 btw. And selling 1-2-3 star characters is robbing Peter to pay Paul. Nice try !Most people who have been here for years had this same problem up to last year when the Xmas vaults hit it has slots in them
Save your hp and hope they come back
I was way short and now have like 130 from the vaults

One answer I've seen is "why can't they sell cosmetics or costumes like Fortnite!?"
I think it's too late for that kind of monetization model in MPQ though. Maybe MPQ 2!

I guess they could expand, maybe a perfume range to reach beyond the pixels. Eau De Quandary incoming! "Beat the puzzle, smell the puzzle" from MPQ Original. I might have to trademark that fast!
