They should add retired events to the campaign

Even if they insisted on only using characters from the last Gauntlet run time era how many of those have now been ascended?!?!? I'm pretty sure that someone like EB still ain't breaking a sweat!

If they made a few changes they could make it more challenging.
The original consisted of 3 sections each section had some side nodes (essentials) and you completed each section 1 battle at a time and changed teams as desired.
I'd suggest they change it like so:
1) 3 sections but no side nodes (just one long set of battles, I think it was 12). You can peek at each of the 12 nodes to see the 3 enemies.
2) All battles used roster based scaling like it did long ago.
3) The enemies get to use supports (this is a great way to trial run how they'd work in PvP)
4) AI uses the advanced AI they once developed by never deployed (the one than can spam powers, avoids matching it's own specials, chases colors correctly etc).
5) There are no boosted characters
6) For each of the 3 sections, you pick 1 team of 3 with no repeated characters (ie you can use MThor in just 1 section). You then start the section and move battle to battle. You can't change teams between battles, nor can you heal/revive, all you can do is adjust boosts/TUs/Supports for the next battle. You either finish running the gauntlet successfully or you die/quit.Then see who can run the gauntlet. Then see how many different sets of 3 teams you can run it with (Rewards should be available for 4 full runs after that you just doing it to say you can). Lots of fun for everyone.

I think you are basically asking them to redesign the whole thing. Remember how much effort they said inserting Omega Red into that PvE was when they released him? We might as well just hope to get new PvE.

If the rewards for this were anything of value, this would be the most hated event in MPQ history. There'd be a 300-page thread on here about how disrespectful it was and how it's killing the game.
The only possible way they could get away with running this is if it awarded absolutely nothing, and ran at the same time as a regular PvE.

If the Gauntlet would be a waste of time because of how easy it would be, doesn't that mean every PvE is a waste of time? When you have teams clearing SCL10 in 14ish minutes, I can't see using difficulty as an excuse. The whole point of Gauntlet was the difficulty, though. I'm not sure the event works if it's just a long string of trivial fights.
I'm not sure why that still has to be the point.
Every PvE fight is trivial. At least with the Gauntlet, you see enemies and teams you don't normally see. The Gauntlet would add a little variety to a game that just ran The Hunt for the 4,000th time.

I guess they could make an event called The Gauntlet that's the same 3/3/4, 24hr sub structure as every other event. That'd be fine, but I'm not sure why it'd be called The Gauntlet.
Otherwise, you'd have folks complaining about the loss of placement rewards, alliance rewards, or, like, just generally stuff to play. It used to take us awhile to beat The Gauntlet! Most players didn't just race to the end.
Puzzle Gauntlet is the replacement for The Gauntlet. The only way you can make fights hard now is to give them alternate win conditions.
