I used Desertion on an opp that had Danitha with mana in their hand. The Danitha triggered and I searched up a Sleep with the Fishes but the search ability triggered again, so I searched up a Sleep with the Fishes again. However, the Danitha did not stay on my board and went back to the opp graveyard (I confirmed this with my Portal to Phyrexia). I know the support portion works (I was able to steal their lands and they stuck around on my board).
I've had this happen multiple times myself, but haven't yet determined why. Sometimes the creature sticks, sometimes it just dies.

Can you send us more information about what on the battefield when it happened, frequency of this behaviour or even videos? It'd help A LOT.

Happens all the time for me, whenever it puts a creature play
