D3P: punisher of the 3* rosters
Am I the only one who feels like they had a better chance of doing well overall when their rosters were weaker 2* focused rosters?
I can't help but feel like the stronger my roster gets, the weaker I feel overall, and I feel like I'm a smarter, better player than I was a month or two ago.
My roster has vastly improved. But I continue to feel like I have less and less chance of going higher in PVP brackets and PVE feels more and more like work/grindy.
IS it just me? DO they want their players to feel like we've gotten no where?
It's becoming less and less fun feeling like the more I do to improve, the harder the game gets and the less chance I have to get covers I want, the harder it is for our alliance to do well, etc.
The appeal of this game for me was it was a fun casual game to poke at from time to time and get some cool covers and keep making my roster better, bigger and stronger.
IDK if it's the changes to the game, or the way they have it setup for scaling rosters, or what, but it's rapidly becoming less fun.
anyone else feel that way?

just for kicks I scanned a chunk of the #1 alliance in my PVE bracket, Immortal Rage. The rosters I saw were almost ALL 2* covers @ lvl 85. with their 3* covers not even leveled to 85 in most cases.
Do some people out there know something we don't? Is the game currently setup to be easier overall for a predominant 2* roster?
Why do 2* rosters seem to have an easier time of it in all aspects of the game at the moment from my POV?0 -
Because the devs need the newer players to feel invincible and have a bite of 2* > 3* progress, what happens next is not their problem. Whales gonna be whaling, everyone else is free to kill each other to death and struggle for dericious 3* covers, so all fine.0

Although it indeed looks like everyone on the top of Simulator Basic was level 85 max, I was doing fine holding #1 on my hard bracket until I forgot that the event didn't end at the usual time. Didn't even have a chance on the normal bracket which seems to be always dominated by the low end roster guys, but it's worth about half the points so I guess that's fair.
Keep in mind someone with a weak roster might be more inclined to focus on just one bracket, and it's pretty hard to be competitive against someone who is only doing one bracket versus someone trying to distribute time equally. Even after I realized I mistimed my bracket I probably could've finished #1 on hard but I decided to take that time on normal instead and see if I can hit top 10. Of course I ended up missing top 2 on hard and still didn't finish top 10 in normal, but that's what you get for being greedy.0 -
I just think a person (on average) with a 2 star roster is hungrier for the rewards than a person with a 3 star roster. There isn't a whole lot of impetus to go all out in these subs for such minimal gain (from the perspective of a player with most 3 stars covered up). Especially when other events are winding down at the same time.
I think the 2 star rosters are also helped out by running with OBW constantly, which allows them to self-heal almost every match. More efficient use of your time, then having to rely on prologue healing.0 -
I believe this is absolutely true.
I have levelled only two 85's and have one 141 and one 99 cover. The other 30 covers are a mixed bag of 30 and below. I've done this on purpose knowing that if I level too many covers that I will be put into scaling Hell.
I've won a bunch of pvp events, but my some of my alliance mates who enjoyed levelling every 85 cover and have a few 141's are only seeing triple 141 teams and are getting frustrated.
The system is totally screwed, and needs a rework if they want some longevity in this game.0 -
I've just finished leveling my 2nd 3* to 141 - something that at the time I was really proud of and excited about - but now I find I am just getting my **** kicked. I am struggling to get high ranks in PVP events because I am constantly getting matched up with teams that are running all maxed out 3* characters, and if the focus character isn't a character that I have leveled I end up at a massive disadvantage most of the time. It's really getting frustrating and makes me wonder why I have even bothered to get to this point. I really enjoy the game and want to do well, but it's getting to be more and more of a strugle to feel motivated to keep going.0

My first 141 wasn't an issue particularly but I did feel that life was a LOT easier when I had a roster of 85's.
At the moment I feel pretty much at a disadvantage just because I don't have a high levelled LThor when (apparently) nearly everyone else in my bracket does.0 -
I was able to get top 20 in pve and top 10 in PVP(~900) until I pushed my second character over level 100. Even then, it was a struggle, but I was able to manage top 50 in PVE, top 50 in PVP (~800) . But after sending my third character over 100 last week, its near impossible to do well(150+ in PVE.. can't even break 700 in PVP).
I thought the point of leveling up your characters was to make life easier?0 -
Sometimes I wonder if this isn't (partially) the fault of prologue healing.
If you are a transitional player (2*-3*) you're most likely going to ride your best two 3* characters all the time in PvP. Never subbing them out with your 2* in the fear of getting a lot of counterattacks. So, you will keep that twosome healed up all the time in an effort to make your runs, then possibly shield when done.
If everyone is doing the same, it's going to look like everyone has lvl 121-141's to the newer transitional player.0 -

OR by the time you've left the 85** era of your game, you've amassed an MMR worthy of fighting teams of equal stature.
OR 141*** teams have better abilities that the AI plays more effectively.
OR Demiurge (not D3Publishers, they run the website and advertisements) has indeed intentionally singled you out as a threat the overall health of the game.
OR Aliens. Is it possible? Yes it is.0 -
1. They aren't equal.
2. Huh?
3. No one claimed that.
4. Ok.0 -
1. What isn't equal? PvE and PvP?
2. Playing against opponents with better teams is harder. Surprisingly.
3. You'd more likely be sandboxed.
4. Insertion of humor.

You said MMR caught up and is providing teams of equal stature. They aren't equal. They used to be equal and now they are consistently much higher level. That's the problem here.0

To the OP, I agree wholeheartedly. When I was only running obw/ares/featured I was able to be competitive and reach 900 or so in pvp. I recently was able to dump about 90 levels of ISO into daken, and now my only available PVP opponents are a mix of three characters, all over lvl 128, that I just literally cannot kill unless I use real money to buy boosts. I quit the alliance I was in because I would have been booted for inactivity. I now have to play a bracket, build points, lose matches to lower my MMR and play up. Sometimes it takes me an hour to raise even 1-200 points because I have to skip a lot of matches, or wait to get attacked.
I am in complete MMR hell.0 -
I have no idea how this works, but I have 5 maxed 2* and I am not raising any characters above 85 untill i can get them to 141 for the fear of making games unplayable.0
-
When I only had maxed 2*'s, it was a struggle to get above 900 in a PVP.
I eventually maxed out a 3*. I haven't missed top 10 since that happened, weeks ago. Always above 900.
So no, I don't think this is true. I now have two maxed 3*'s, and a couple more over 100.
Is play different? Yes. But after learning to adjust, it's easier to get high scores now.0 -
Similarly to Scottee, for me there was a sweet spot just after I had gotten my first 141 where I always went well, around 1000 without having to spend toooo much time playing. Now that I have er I think 4 141s it's a nightmare; every match seems to be against 212/141/141 (even when my buffed character is only 130, to take the Wolverine example).0
-
yep, and to be clear in case I was not in the OP, it's not that I can't get high scores and placement in PVE, it jsut seems a lot more grinding and eating a lot more heals.
IN the PVP though, it's just a nightmare and not fun anymore, finding it hard to even keep interested at this point, I liked it when it was a lot more casual of a game, I just feel they are pushing it to be too time consuming to keep up with all the covers you need to compete. Especially since they basically chain events so that you better have done well in the last events and unlocked the covers so that you can at least even participate in the new events without being stuck with a level 23 toon that just gets ****. And to top that off, you better be in an active alliance that has all 20 members pushing to minimum target numbers, because if a couple slack off, bye bye to your alliance cover.0 -
