When the players said that Zendikers Expedition was too grindy and asked for another event to replace it, its nice to know that the devs took it to mean that we were asking for an event that required us to play even more games with the same poor rewards.
I mean seriously, Zendiker Expedition required 7 games with full objectives to reach progression and people still got sick of it. This one need 10 games to reach full progression.... Why?
5 -
Do all 5 iterations of the event have the same objectives and same nodes, only difference is the different event supports?1
-
All of these objective scores need to be doubled - if not more.2
-
So, 2 more years of an even longer grind in the daily event? I was already passing on the ZE event many moons ago due to the unfun grind.3
-
Can we bump those secondary rewards up to 5 each? Having to clear 10 matches a day to hit the final progression rewards seems like too much time.
To be fair, even 7 is a lot, I know a lot of players fell off the zendikar dailies because of the time it took to clear 7 matches.5 -
If you are going to make us play a minimum of 10 matches to get full progression you could at least increase the rewards.
Players complained about Zendikar Expeditions being grindy and with bad rewards and it required a minimum of 7 matches to get full progression. Now you make this new event even grindier but keep the same awful rewards.
Do you really think that players consistently need 12000 runes? For most players that's like rewarding them with a handshake3 -
I agree with bongo here - runes are super useful to players in bronze and silver who still have a lot of walkers to buy and level. All long term players have an enormous pile of runes in the millions - more than we would ever need for any reason.
Is there something else we can put in the platinum rewards for long term players? Perhaps crafting orbs?3 -
This is the same structure ZE had when it first released. It took a month of constant complaining before Oktagon bumped the secondary objectives up to 5 each instead of 3/2.

I have a serious concern (in case the Dev teams don’t! What are they thinking?!) that this punishing tedious structure will drive people away from the game.2
-
I completely agree with all of the concerns regarding grindiness already aired in this thread. I actually quit the game for a time because of the increasing stinginess of rewards. I can't tell if the decision here to go back to the original structure of ZE is laziness or apathy. Or, perhaps it was intentional.
On a positive note, I appreciate that the objectives aren't in any way dependent on killing creatures. That is one of my pet peeves in this game. My ability to achieve an objective should never depend on what my opponent does or me having to some sort of self harm.2 -
Heres a math equation for the devs:
Require > 7 games = People not playing + less spending real money.
"Be creative and less frugal or it costs you dearly in the end." - Wise man once said.
1 -
Another equation.
8 Training Grounds games + 8 Trial of the Planes + 10 Revolving Planeswalk.
We are now required to play at least 26 games per day to get the daily rewards.
Almost no one has time for that so you are creating a product that players will avoid. I know that you put a lot of work on designing new events and interactions with the permasupports and everything. Do you really want to create a product that won't be consumed?3 -
We gotta except the design... longer events means a larger timeline of "active players"
I expect events to continue to be grindy moving forward... snd TBH At least ever objective is the easiest objective OF ALL TIME, and we have a new revolving event that gives the newest packs as rewards.
Now I really don't have to buy any PP0 -
That being said I will get all the commons and uncommons/rares and never plays this event ever again lol0
-
Either move the rune rewards to the back or change the ribbons to +10/+5/+5 please.
I really don't understand why it's a copy of the initial ZR being 5/3/2 and expecting 10 perfect games for these rewards.3 -
Could this be a sign of frustration from the dev team? I wonder if they are caught in the following dilemma.
If the devs make events with decent rewards, the players do not invest enough money in the game, since the players get want they need from the events.
if the devs make events that the players don’t want to play, the players do not invest enough money in the game, since what is point of buying cards that won’t be played with.
So I suppose that the devs tried the first scenario with rising tides (which had fantastic prizes) and then they tried the second scenario with ZE and the result was better with ZE. Just my 2 cents1 -
Dear Oktagon,
The ribbon structure of this event as currently constructed is a step in the wrong direction. Currently, this event is more grindy than Zendikar Expeditions (ZE), which means that less players will play it and also means it is less fun for those that do. There was a massive outcry when you originally rolled out the 5/3/2 ribbon rewards for ZE, and even once you went to 5/5/5, there were lots of complaints. Many players stopped playing ZE because it just took too long. I was one of those players, and when I did play, I saw evidence that fewer players in the bronze tier were playing the event. Bronze is mostly filled with newer players who can struggle with achieving secondary objectives, so ZE can take them a many many matches to complete. Slogging away at a game is not fun.
Please change the ribbon structure of this event to 10/5/5 (10 ribbons for winning the match, and 5 ribbons for completing a secondary objective). This means that players could complete the event in as little as 5 matches, and for those that can't achieve secondary objectives, they can at least complete it in 10. That's still more grindy that the original Rising Tensions -- widely regarded in the player community as the best event you've ever made -- which could be completed in 4 games.
Changing the ribbon structure to 10/5/5 will make this event much more enjoyable to play, and thus more players will play it, especially newer players. The player community that loves this game wants to see it thrive, succeed, and grow. Doing that requires holding the attention of folks who decide to download the game and give it a whirl. An event that newer players can completed in a reasonable amount of time is a great way to accomplish that.
Please listen to the player base on this one. We're onto something.5 -
@Oktagon_Support Pleas listen to @ArielSira 's and @Scrounger 's suggestion about the event's structure and change it to 10/5/5.
You want more play time in your app? More players playing a little less time on a less grindy event will always be better than less players playing more time on a grindy event. Specially since this event will be in standard for a long time. If you keep it this way you will be attracting less players as Scrounger explained above.
All we want is to keep enjoying the game and consume the product you have. You already spent time creating those 5 events, the last thing that you want is for us to skip it just because you made it a super grindy experience.
If we didn't care we wouldn't even be here asking for a change.6 -
Firstly, thank you for the new content.
Honestly, I never have a problem with flavor in this game - very tasty.Even if it were not for examples here of players asking for a pay-to-play event that gives greater rewards for the time it takes, I am quite sure I would not be the only one who thought that Zendikar Expeditions was a daily with too much effort for the rewards, to do daily. To see the daily change for the worse is disheartening.
It is in all of our interests that more people play this event - for newer players to find it fun and older, to be more likely to continue playing the game.
Please change the ribbon structure for Revolving Planeswalk to 10 ribbons for a win, and 5 for secondaries. Choose the win win. Let the player base know that you listen and are willing to adjust priorities.6
