How do you feel about gold characters
Ok so apparently if we don't bring stuff up over and over endlessly then D3 feels that we don't care anymore and that it's not an issue anymore. Well I haven't talked about gold characters in a while but I still dislike them 100%. We all know they have that habit of relying more on metrics than they should. Some could prolly rely on common sense a lil more but let's not get into that. Here's my point.
When gold characters were released they was an uproar. Lots of people were mad. After a while the rage died down a bit and this is what we got.
Lazy Thor - very OP. Best cover in game ATM (arguably)
Lazy Dakken - could also arguably be the best but at least top 3, maybe 5
Lazy cap - an insane step up from the disgrace that is his 2* counterpart. If they had this much of an increase with Dakken or Thor it would have been godlike. Due to 2* caps crappiness this 3* version managed to fall right where he should have. Still a powerful character.
Did I level my gold covers?
I have a max 141 cap. His covers were abundant. He got many buffs and features. Strong character.
Am I gonna level Thor and Dakken? Yes. They are freaking awesome. If you don't level them your gonna be stuck fighting them over and over because every other mid-high level player is gonna have em. I think a lot of the rage died down and I think a lot of people levelled them because of their immense power. To me, it's not ok to make them OP just so people will accept them.
I've made this point before and some people said if I don't like them I shouldn't level them. Whether I like them or not they make me competitive. It's a valid argument.
Regardless, I wanna see what every1 else's opinions are on this now that we have the batch of 3 original gold characters done. Do you want more? Because I sure don't.

Well...
Your points are Valid and technically, she is far from the "golden child", but *BW came in 3 versions. 1*, 2* and 3*.
Do you consider IM40 to be a "gold cover" to IM35?
I get where your going and do we need a repeat of *BW as apparently "gold Storm" is coming...
And what about the Wolverines? Should we add a 1* Logan just to have him everywhere?
They could be creative and release, more X-Men or more Vilains... But instead, we get falcon and DD.
Vulture? Come on, gives us Vulture... He could fight with Falcon for control of the skies? No?
Or they could give us a break on releaseing cover after cover every week and concentrate on fixing/adding to the ones we have.0 -
The skillset the gold characters brought to the 3* tier is fine. The power level is not.0

Gold only refers to the characters that were 2* and made an exact or very similar 3* replica.
The characters such as black widow who are tiered but with different abilities every level I dislike also. I would prefer entirely new characters as often as possible. Tiered characters like wolvie and black widow are much better alternatives to gold characters.
Way back when months and months ago they stopped putting out tiered characters because there were so many complaints about 3 widows and 2 iron mans etc etc when there were so many hundreds of characters to choose from. A few months of getting original characters and then they come back with "gold" characters which IMO is a huge step down from tiered characters, which were already an issue previously.
Original>tiered>gold
With original characters being very frequently released. At least probably 3/4 characters.
Tiered characters popping in every great once in a while.
Gold characters should appear either:
1. Never
2. Annually as a set of 3 and never any more than that.0 -
Psyko, are you saying you want gold OBW next, with 5 AP rainbow steal at 3 covers, and heals 1244 +5 turns on CD tiles or 2488 with no CD, And espionage hits for 220? Because that's the vibe I'm getting...0

I'm fine with gold characters. I'm not fine with powercreep and general OPness.0

With the way this game plays out gold characters make sense. That sets a precedence for the future of the game for platinum characters when the end games shifts to 4* characters. Cap, Thor, and Daken all get to play in 3* land which is good. What's not so good is that they may be too good0

Pure complete and utter money grab whilst being lazy.
Thor gets a nerf for being overpowered as a 2* in relation to the other 2* characters, fine I can accept that however his 3* counterpart at the time (Ragnarok) gets the biggest hack job ever seen before hand. This is called *Funbalancing*, making a 3* into a 1.5 star. Fast forward a bit and we now have "Gold" Thor. I could just about accept him if he had a different move or skillset, as it is it is what Thor should have been originally with some more levels added. This character is over powered, expect it to be "Funbalanced" just after the masses spend money to max it.
Capatin America is by and large **** useless as a 2* as he takes way too long to get started. Dont get me wrong once you have the APthe moves are very cost effective as a rolling technique, except the yellow, sadly by the time you get there you have lost too much hp to keep it going. For how long have people been saying yellow is over priced by at least 5AP?
Now for Daken. Why not just give Daken that 3rd ability and allow us to go to L85? Instead release a "shiny" Daken then nerf the **** out of 2* versions best feature of attack tiles. Why do this? Oh yes because when it gets scaled it is a game killer. Easy solution, fix the f6cking scaling.
tl;dr Pure money grab for no effort instead of fixing other flaws with the existing characters.0 -
The only way they'll stop making gold characters is when they run out of templates. They need the covers to keep flooding the game with new covers to chase.0
-
Hate gold characters. Particularly irritated by LazyThor being so powerful. Being made to level and cover LazyThor from scratch after already levelling regular Thor to 85 is a gigantic irritant to me. At least with Cap and Daken they were characters I never levelled (and never even spent roster spots on), but I dislike them on principle.
It's also annoying because they are characters who were not designed to go to level 141 and have their strength scale up that much, and so at level 141 they tend to outclass other 3* characters. We see constantly with PVE events how scaling characters up beyond their designed level produces stupidly powerful effects.0 -
Got to agree. I don't particularly mind gold versions of existing covers as long as they are a variation rather than a pure upscale. I also don't like that particular missions require the specific cover rather than any variation of it.
If they must go the current route I would like the gold covers to be something that adds to the basic character; you can't use it until you hit the normal level max, and then it just allows for more levels to be added.
But definitely don't like the current way it is being implemented.0 -
Lazy Thor is overpowered. None of his awesome ability has repercussion besides waiting to build up the color.0

Pretty sure I was one of the first people to say that having Lazy Thor in the game was fine if not a good thing in his inaugural thread in the character discussion. If memory serves there was vast swaths of venomous posts about how bad this is for the game and how people hated it. While my opinion has not changed, and I think Lazy Cap is in a good spot and not sure about Daken yet (need to play with/against more) I think we can all agree LT's stats need to be toned down a bit. His health is actually a mountainous heap for some reason. A flotilla of hit-points.
Most newly released characters have real downsides. Torch's health and black, his green is piss poor on defense. Psylockes blue is laughable. BP's yellow is clearly weak and his blue is complete garbage but he hits hard on black and has some health to show for it. Even as far back as Hulk shows what a moderate character can do when positioned. Ares damages himself for power, good on defense.
Gold characters are basically strict upgrades and while the lower powered 2 stars benefit, Thor was not exactly low power in his element.0 -
I hate the lazy characters, but do think one thing that might turn my opinion around is if they somehow allow you to upgrade your 2* to the 3* version; almost like a progression after you max your 2*.
I remember when LT was first announced and this was one of the rumors; I actually was pretty excited about it. As it is now, it just feels like a money grab. The lazy characters don't really add a lot of variety or originality, and you essentially have to start over to work them up. LT was an extra insult since it came shortly after the 2* thor nerf.0 -

man that would make too much sense ... i mean can you imagine if they added like an RPG element and somehow the covers would LEVEL UP.0 -
It makes sense if you're a developer and yor designers can work on powers for NEW characters that will bring in revenue or work on fixing powers for characters that are not going to bring in so much...
So marry the fix to the character to a new and improved version that people will purchase.0 -
I much prefer the Wolvie or Black Widow approach when making 3*. Lazy characters are okay in my book, but only for those who deserve it. 2* Cap is pretty bad. His Gold version is a huge step up and actually worth something. Daken and Thor really do not need an identical, stronger clone.0

Lazy thor Is basically the old style thor, except with the extra 5 green tile generation and the boosted green damage. And a mountain of HP, yes.0

Just because a good character was in 2* doesn't mean it can't be reused again in 3*. Thor, Daken, and Captain America's skill set are quite solid. Thor occupies the 'dumb tank' role (tons of HP, impossible to screw up abilties for AI). Captain America is superb long term (and we're talking about very long) damage and durability, and Daken is a powerful guy with practically no activated abilities. Now, in their actual implementation I think the stats are way above what is fair (Daken is unsure, simply because not enough time against him to tell), but that doesn't mean the skill set shouldn't exist.0 -
Bored with the copypaste in general (especially LT), like the changes to Cap - why can't they bring the 2* version up to snuff, too? Yellow still needs buffs/changes, we NEED more good yellow abilities for 3*s. Like Daken's new ability, it has interesting interaction with his regen and strike tiles. Couldn't care less about 2* Daken being nerfed - he has a 69 level cap, same as Bullseye, so be glad he's still better than Bullseye. Great for PvE, of course.
I wouldn't be bothered too much if the roster slots were more reasonable. At this rate, I'm starting to think of deleting my Yelena and I actually love being a collector! But not a thing in pricing will be changed I'm afraid.
I understand that from a moneymaking perspective, gold characters are, indeed, gold - they make players buy more roster slots, more covers and ISO, etc. If you delete their 2* counterparts, you may screw yourself when only 2* versions are available for the next Heroic event - which has happened already. Maybe not such a big thing though.
I pray to pasta that lazyStorm will be the last gold character ever, as we already have 3 Wolverines and 2 Dakens (they could have a 5 node family reunion tournament all by themselves), 3 Widows, 2 Magnetos, 2 Storms, 2 Caps, 2 Thors, 2 Iron Men, 2 Spider-Men, 2 Hawkeyes. 22/42 of the current characters, including the Sentry, are versions and goldifications. Why wouldn't they add abilities for 2 ability characters though? That's another source of spending HP/ISO on and it's less work than new characters.0 -
I like the concept of gold characters and most of them, but I hate LT.0
