I had fun playing MTGPQ

yes, it is true - I HAD FUN playing MTGPQ. If you think “how is that possible” then read on.

This post is an attempt to make @brigby and the devs. aware of something they seems to have forgotten, possibly.

In a recent PVE, I decided to solve the puzzle presented by the PVE in a new way. Since it was an old PVE, I had solved many times before with the same technique. My approach was to find a new way to beat the old objectives. Afterwards, I was surprised at my enjoyment (which has obviously been lacking, since it was such a surprise).

I realised that what I was missing from a large part of the (Coalition) events is the puzzle part of MTGPQ! When a typical opponent deck is the same old atom bomb deck that whirls the same 10-20 cards at you, then your only option is to respond in kind thereby ensure the downward cycle of more speed and more power, superseding finesse and subterfuge.

I propose that you consider adding new PVE and story mode chapters (soon), so that those of us who finds the puzzle aspect fun can also play MTGPQ for this purpose.

Feel free to add your own story of when you last had fun playing MTGPQ.

The last time I've had fun was when the last coalition event went live. A new puzzle to solve with my group - engagement rose, we've had stuff to discuss. Anything ever since didn't give me a feeling of accomplishing anything. New cards? Do they improve bsz builds? No? Not meta relevant. Yes? Even more boring.

I've had a bit of fun the moment it appeared the devs would've listened to our feedback about the level system. Five minutes until I actually understood they did nor understand nothing.

@Laeuftbeidir - great to hear from you. I may be mistaken, but the way I read your post, is that you have a similar enjoyment of solving new events, like I do.

So I would really hope that D3/Octagon would begin to prioritise adding new “levels” on a regularly basis, be it story mode, PVE or PVP. My wife enjoys Candy Crush and a large part of her enjoyment is to solve new levels, I think she has reached beyond level 2k.

A lot of my enjoyment with the game comes from solving problems in ways outside the box.

I mean, I'm still trying to get Kaya to a place I can win more games than I lose, making the most out of her abilities (while still keeping that juiced-in Orzhov flavor). I had some extra cash this week, so I picked up Ghost Council.

I 100% would love some more story missions. Solving for weird stuff is a good time.

Sure, I love the puzzles. But I want to be challenged, not invited to grind. I'm not sure about Story mode (I reached 100% more than a year ago), but it would be something. Also, I don't care about the new solo pve events. It was mildly interesting when the Dom events were new, but the other new pve events were totally flavorless. I think I never even bothered to play the later levels, because... Why ? The repeat until you get it type is no challenge.

New pve coalition events are what I enjoy most. Maybe even a new challenge mode with actually hard to solve puzzles and very harsh restrictions. Or set restrictive events. But regarding the current development philosophy, players like me seem to be irrelevant.

I would like real puzzles. Not hypothetical ones where you need to 'kind of solve a puzzle by beating a hard deck'. I have already made this same suggestion years ago and, as always, it fell on deaf ears without so much as a single comment by game staff, so I will not be expanding on the point anymore.

@Laeuftbeidir - not sure how to respond to the grind. What constitutes grind to you may not be grind to me. However, I would like to have new story mode chapters, since the coalition events are all about speed and power, as I mentioned earlier.

I totally agree with the Dom events. I feel that D3 made a huge mistake in allowing players to gain total progression with just the first node, but there has been no indication that they would change these events. I’m not really sure why they did it, but I will not waste my breath trying to fix it.

@ZW2007- - I think I recall your attempt to get more story mode or PVE about a year ago. I wonder if your timing was off, since Octagon were (still are?!?) struggling with getting a handle on the Hibernium code. I try again because I really enjoyed this during the recent PVE.

For some reason Octagon feels making new events are a huge task. Possibly, because they want to add indestructible supports and similar effects, which are nice, but in my mind are not necessary in all events.

As I see it, it should be possible to make a story mode deck in one working day. (15-30 minutes initial deck, 30 mins coding a test version, 3 hours play testing and optimising and 2 hours user testing) I guess that is difficult to achieve, with the amount of bugs that are rampart these days. Well, I digress...

Part of the problem I think is how long this Standard rotation is. The rotating sets force you to come up with new ideas and we haven't had this for a long time.

I was there at the beginning of MTGPQ, and I had a great deal of fun. That fun has vanished with the advent recent events. I'll not spend another penny on the game. Period. I used to spend about $75 to $100 a month. That money is now going to a proper MTG game Arena. The fun in the game was murdered by a company that does not care about it's customers.

@ArielSira - Good point! Rotation being increased sure could be the reason for a reduction in new ideas. However, I think that being able to use your cards for a longer period still sounds like a good thing, but I could change my opinion if some more facts showed otherwise.

@Outersider - it sounds to me like you are also lacking new contents. I fully get the reduced spending pattern, which I have also been affected by. I would really like to see more affordable deals in the vault, before loosing my wallet.

I last had fun in a QuickBattle tourney, a week or so, before QB was cancelled. Almost made it to #1, lost by a dozen points only.

@UweTellkampf - that is a long time ago, makes me a bit sad to hear actually. However, Your coalition must be incredible (assuming that is why you are still playing). 😄

@Tremayne yes, TP9 Alliance. If it weren’t for the community I’d quit long time ago

I need to take a break, it is hard for me to be in a competition and lose due to freezes that I didn't even knew existed.  I will come back when they have been dealt with.

No I actually could care less about new content now that I know that veteran players are nothing to the devs. I refuse to spend a penny more on a game that screws it's customers when they do what they were asked to do. It's not content that makes it less fun.... it's being treated like someone insignificant. that makes it no fun. I've been playing computer games since they came out (yes I'm that old) and never before have I felt like this from a gaming company.

Yep. New content as in New coalition events might pull me back, but the trust is gone,so is my intention to support anything related to this game financially.

While I certainly understand the notion of taking a break, and I sincerely hope it does plenty to rejuvenate your spirits, I also wanted to let you know that the soft-locks that players have been encountering recently will be fixed in this upcoming 3.4 update.

I know it's lame, but I enjoyed creating my user profile and picking my favorite decks for my coalition mates to see...
