Incorrect Bonus Hero Cover Reimbursement (4/12/19)

Hi Everyone,

We recently discovered an issue where players who had Thanos (Modern) or Captain America (Infinity War) selected as their favorite heroes were receiving incorrect covers for those heroes. When the player received a cover for that character as a Bonus Hero, they received a version of the character that was not intended to be used.

If this issue happened to you, all you need to do is log into the game after 1pm ET on 4/12/19 to receive a new cover(s). We will be giving players a random cover(s) for that character. You can keep the incorrect cover(s) / hero(es) if you wish, but you will not have an opportunity to build out these characters as they were not intended to be used.

Thank you for understanding!

Sounds like some characters might be getting reworks or making boss appearances soon.  .

I’d be keeping those ‘incorrect’ covers for fun

They were just test versions, so pretty weak characters. One of our team members likened them to the equivalent of mis-printed stamps.

Be cool if it was something like “Avengers vs. Thanos” and “Thanos vs Avengers” as End Game’s answer to Civil War.

This might be another Prowler situation where we get a sneak peak before release. 2 new End Game character releases confirmed. Maybe....

Awwww man, I got a bonus Thanos (Modern) cover today, but it was just the stupid standard one.

@Brigby, can I be re-imbursed the mis-printed stamp Thanos? You can have the normal cover back instead.

I got the reimbursement Thanos cover today.

Yet I don't recall getting the other misprint Thanos. I did open some elite tokens the other day and I got a bunch of BH and one might have been Thanos (can't recall). But if it was, the game let me apply it as a Champ level on my 3* Thanos. So if anyone has one of these they likely already applied it as a Champ level.

With 30+ open roster slots (from the recent sale) I would have rostered the special edition Thanos as trophy like Dormammu mentioned.

    @Brigby
Couldn't you issue them as a 1*, so ppl can see them and play with them.  It wouldn't really affect anything...

    I don't even think they're strong enough to be at a 1-Star level. :D

I'm not 100% sure, but I think they were originally used as tutorial enemies or something to that extent.

I had some 3* Thanos bonus hero rewards, but only as champ levels on a finished character.
I take it everything is fine in that regard?

Everything should be behaving correctly now. Players should be receiving the correct Bonus Hero characters moving forward.

Shame something like this wasn't done when America Chavez was handing out Jessica Jones covers in the wrong order =(

What do you mean wrong order? That it's not 1st color then 2nd then 3rd. She is the only 5* feeder that is different, but she still is that way.

Every other tier has variations in the order of rewards. They never announced that the colors would come in a specific order for all champ rewards. So it's odd for sure, but not an issue in the grand scheme as long as she gives 6 covers.

^ This. They are 1 ability Tutorial enemies that can't get more covers in other abilities (covers for those other 2 abilities don't even exist), so they're pretty much stuck at base level. They'd be useful if your idea of fun is using a 1 cover 1 ability character, but that's about it.

The characters exist in data for a bit of Tutorial revamp that got left off development for other improvements. They managed to make it into the Bonus Hero pool appended to the real versions of those characters for a bit before someone caught it. 4* Black Panther was also in that expanded Tutorial BH pool, but it doesn't look like anyone pulled him while the bug was active. So no souvenir T'Challas for the playerbase. :(

All I am hearing is that these are now the rarest covers in the game.  If only MPQ had a secondary market or player auction house. . .

    ;)

Also, thanks for the clarification brigby + Ice.

Actually, pretty sure when they announced the first set of 4* feeders they said 5* covers would always be rewarded in order from top to bottom. Jessica Jones is the only goof up so far by going top, bottom, middle.

I think the idea was to provide consistency and a small measure of comfort knowing that if you only managed to get a 5* character to, say, 2/5/5 before they left Latest that their 4* feeder would just need to get to 280 for that final cover. But that's just my observation.

I don't remember them ever saying that. It started on 11-17-17 with vulture giving 5* Peter parker. Nowhere in that announcement do they say it will be rewarded top to bottom for every character. There is no other star tier that consistently rewards covers top to bottom. The 5 star tier is definitely on that path since only 1 character breaks that mold, but I have seen nothing I can remember that said they would follow that strategy.

If you can find a quote I will gladly stand corrected. This just seems like another case of players picking up a pattern and assuming that's how it always should be unless the devs say different. And any deviation from a pattern without communication is seen as a slight to the players. Even though there is no clear communication on a pattern being the plan.

Examples would include when starting with Emma the latest 4*'s being featured more often in story modes. Also getting a 5* feeder monthly. When it was actually statistically closer to one every 20 days until our recent dry spell.

Players latch on to patterns and get very bent out of shape when the pattern is broken. Even when there is no actual announcement of a pattern. People are always clamoring for something new and different but when the dev's try new and different things (often without announcements) they get chewed out a bit on these forums.

Edit: I found the original announcement. Brigby makes a comment on page 1 referring to a question on if it will be top to bottom. https://forums.d3go.com/discussion/68964/updates-to-4-star-champion-rewards-11-17-17/p1 he said "he assumes" which is not an official promise of consistency to a pattern moving forward.
