The psychological stuff about this particular game is very real and really important and needs to be looked at as part of design because you _aren't_ just designing a game, you are deliberately designing a section of people's day-to-day lives.
It can be very easy for people to lose track of that themselves but also the game devs might not always realise since they are focusing more directly within the game itself rather than looking at it's outside impact as much.

Brigby If possible would you be able to pass on some of the things in this thread about the psychological impact of various things to the developers? (I ask because I expect this thread would otherwise be glossed over, but also because some things might need clarification in translation.)

    You read my mind!
    I do try...
I am in fact including this thread in my weekly report to the rest of the team.
    Thank you!

It's a big deal. I'm a long-time player who has probably spent close to $1000 on this game. (Jesus)

I saved crystals for a long time and have bought 14 GRN PPs. I have two mythics so far, aside from one I bought with cash, an ****-terpiece that I bought with 400 purples, and the guaranteed mythics from Rising Tensions.

That's well under the stated 30% and with a large enough sample size to feel depressed about. It would take some very lucky packs to get back to just statistical average at this point.

I too am very deflated and intend to take a break from coalition play, probably to set the game down completely. I was similarly unlucky with M19 PPs, but had really good luck hitting the best cards with my Mythic packs. That kept me going.

I'm not sure there's a "therefore" in my post, just bellyaching, and chiming in that there is a very real psychological component to games like this.

I think it's really important to look at the rare/mythic award probability of each pack before opening them, it really can avoid huge disappointments like this (and the depression that follows).

My analysis (bold for emphasis here), is that Guilds of Ravnica was meant to have the scarce desirable rewards:

I think of it like it was a second Ixalan, we were all incredibly disappointed with the low rare/mythic turnout from Ixalan packs (among other problems), but it was counterbalanced by the ability to get at least 1 free pack per day through the Across Ixalan event.  Octagon is doing the same thing with Ravnica +750 free orbs if you complete the event, so I'd imagine the drawback from this generosity is that with the Ravnica packs themselves you should count yourself lucky if you get more than 5 commons.

This being said, I do empathize with the feelings of anyone who has such unfortunate luck in getting good cards.  The Gambler's Fallacy is a harsh trap to fall into :/
