"The Protector objective now tracks the number of both destroyed and exiled Creatures"

Please please please tell me this is a mistake.  First of all, this now makes Protector objectives exponentially harder, so 5.1 on Battle of 4 Tribes is going to be essentially impossible.  Secondly, you now need to change the text of the objectives.  "Exile" is not "Destroy".  In paper, things that have death or destruction effects do not trigger on exileIn PQ things that have death or destruction effects do not trigger on exile (see: Elenda)
    I
agree with everything you said, but regarding this statement.. "protector" is supposed to be about your own creatures. Not those of the AI,so it's rarely enough used to not be that problematic.
Oops, my bad.  I never remember the objectives by name, just what we have do do for them.

Next question:  Will replacing your own creature now count as losing one for Protector?  It does exile them, I believe

Little hint: alternating between xln and rix boosters for ai wouldn't hurt economy I think

Hi Everyone. There are some great questions that were asked, and I've gone ahead and passed that along to the team for review. If they're able to provide any insight, then I'll be sure to inform everyone of their responses.

Replacing your creatures drops them into the graveyard, it just doesn't count as them being destroyed, so I don't think this change will affect that. I've played around with several graveyard interactions, so I've seen this happen regularly.

P.S. Quoting is working better now! It still starts me inside the quote, but I can actually scroll down to click below it.

    2.9 Pre-Release Notes

    • Ball Lightning is no longer returned to the battlefield from the Graveyard, when beginning the player's turn, while God-Pharaoh's Gift is on the board in Battle.

This a nerf or a bug? If it is a bug, how so?

Because it was destroying itself before GPG got the chance to exile it. So it was basically recurring every turn. Same happens with iDevils, I wonder if they tackled that one too.

I know, I thought of that combo the first day it came out as did many others, lol. But I never viewed the order of operations as a bug. Everything that will be destroyed at the end of turn, always did before exiling occurred. Curious as to how they fixed it … or to be more precise, why they did. I don't see the problem, aside from a very nasty combo.

*note: I do not own Ball Lightning

Huh, I always saw replacing a creature specifically NOT drop them to the graveyard, unless it was reinforced (the reinforcements definitely hit the graveyard).  Always assumed it was sent to exile, although there really isn't a way to check that.

So.. Even more walkers before you're even through with the last ones.. And a colorless and a mono..wow..I don't think there's a single player left who could afford them all and level them :/

Edit : or are the new walkers only usable in the event (can't be purchased) and are already leveled? In that case, forget the comment above!

I believe the walkers are event rewards.

This is such a random selection of cards that are being balanced, and while I appreciate it I feel like I should tell you that no one played those cards before and no one will play them afterwards.
I expect that Grove Rumbler, Embodiment of Insight and Seed Guardian are probably all gonna be in the Nissa duel deck, seems like the duel has a BfZ theme and Nissa's got an Awakening/elementals theme going on. Makeshift Munitions, I have no idea about why they picked it, but it certainly was unplayable and bad.

I absolutely don't understand the "rebalancing" of Aegis of the Heavens, though. It's now an until-end-of-turn +2/+2 that costs as much as a permanent +2/+2 (Murderer's Axe). Lithomancer's Focus, Strength of Arms and Rush of Adrenaline are all priced such that the cost of Aegis seemed about right. Now it just seems out-of-whack and pointlessly bad.

    Other thoughts of mine:
    • The nerf to Legion Conquistador, the nerf to Ball Lightning. Other people have discussed why these are weird/bad choices for fixes, but just on a more general sort of note: I get that maybe the mechanics were potentially gamebreaking, or just too strong, but filling up the game with weird, undocumented, one-off alterations to cards working the way they say they're supposed to work is not a good thing, and only going to increase player frustration. How is a new player who wasn't around for this patch and thinks they've "discovered" a great combo in Ball Lightning and God-Pharaoh's Gift going to have any idea what's going on or why it's not working? What is that new player going to think when they discover that no, actually, the devs didn't like that particular combo, so they made that combo not work? Once they figure out it doesn't work, how will they know which graveyard shenanigans are "okay" to use with Ball Lightning and which aren't? (God-Pharaoh's Gift - not ok; Muldrotha - apparently totally fine.) Not exactly gonna inspire the player to keep playing and looking for new combos, is it? A better fix, if one is even necessary, and even if it's not how it works in paper, would be to make the exile effect from Gift happen before the creatures' own self-destruct ability; it's more intuitive, clearer to the player what's going on, and can prevent other cards (e.g. Impetuous Devils) from abusing the same mechanic and needing to be fixed individually. Same thing with Conquistador - if you're going to change how one fetch card works, you should change how every fetch card works.

    • Totally lost - I'm glad to see this fixed, but I hope the card text will be updated to reflect it.

    • "The player's hand will no longer contain seven or more cards, when activating an ability that moves a card to the player's hand while the player's hand is full." ....Whoa. This is a pretty big change, and a significant nerf to some cards (Chaos Wand comes to mind, Etali too, but I'm pretty sure there are a bunch of others). Are all such effects simply going to fail when a player's hand is full? Is Etali going to go back to sticking cards on the top my deck like it used to? (Please no!) Some things already didn't trigger when your hand was full, but clarity and consistency (as above about Conquistador and Ball Lightning) would be really nice.

    • I still think it would be better to let the hand fill past 6 and then have an end-of-turn hand limit that automatically discards cards past 6, like in paper. But oh well.

    • The Protector Objective change is going to make a couple of fights super-annoying. Please re-evaluate existing battles that have this objective to see if it still makes sense for all of them to have it after this change. (Spoilers: it doesn't.)

    • I do wanna say, I am glad to see such a long list of bug fixes for this patch, even if there are still a ton of things still waiting for their fix. Also, the new event sounds fun. Altogether, though I have my gripes, I'm quite happy about this patch!

I’m pretty happy about the simple fact that there has been a radical change to... well... almost everything...

The one that gets top billing - beta. Finally! Thank you for this. (You better pick me for this!! 😝).

I’m very fond of some of the changes being made - specifically, Naru becomes Meh. Why hit her with the nerf hammer - twice now?! I won’t cry over it and I guess it was time to end any and possible endless loops. Oh well.

Okay, back to things I found interesting - I really like that ingest has been fixed. In legacy, that should mean Ulamog would be a gems board explosion against Karn... I’m really looking forward to revisiting ingest now. Will bring back some life to that avenue.

I love the complete switch-up of how this Dual Deck event will run. It will be interesting. I also like that they are setting up different exclusive cards for these events.

A major highlight for me is that the new event will not have rewards based on Tier. I hope that with the way the event is laid out all players will have an equal chance at performing well and winning rewards. Especially newer players.

And of course kudos for letting the community here in the forums know aboutball the changes in advance. Now let’s just get that being done in the regular in-game in box. ;)

Update: We originally planned on having the 2.9 update live today, however the team encountered a major issue, which unfortunately requires delaying the update in order to address. Subsequently, this means that the Duel Decks beta will also have to be delayed. We apologize for the inconvenience. Once we receive additional information, we'll be sure to communicate any news to the community.

Thank you for the update.  Please let the devs know that this is much preferred to the usual radio silence (I would hate to see future updates not communicated at all because of possible delays).

We understand unexpected issues.  We just want to be able to plan stuff out in advance.

It is understandable, and the communication is appreciated...but this also stings even more due to the decision to not run any events, thus leaving to do in game, on the heels of a rather unexciting weekend...

    2.9 Pre-Release Notes

(*Important note: Anything listed below is subject to change before release. We will try to update any changes in a timely manner, but please keep in mind the info below is not guaranteed.)

    General Changes

    Objective Screen UI
    • The points for each objective are now shown.
    Power Saving Option
    • A new settings option has been added that should help reduce battery consumption by reducing certain graphical elements.

New Event: Duel Decks: Zendikar vs Eldrazi

During April Fools Day, we jokingly introduced a new event type, where players could play on either the Goats or Chupacabras teams. While the specific details were clearly seen as comical, we discovered that many players grew fond of the concept, and were excited to see whether it would actually become a reality.

We took that notion to heart, and we’re excited to announce that we are officially adding in a brand new event: Duel Decks!

Not only that, but we want to offer a limited number of players the chance to be a part of an exclusive beta run, and help provide feedback on the event. Before you sign up though, we want everyone to please take a read through Oktagon’s blog post, which should give you a much clearer idea as to what Duel Decks is. Check it out here: Duel Decks Blog Post

    New Planeswalkers

With the new Duel Decks event comes new Planeswalkers!

    Nissa, Worldwaker
Desperate to save her world, Nissa broke the lock that kept the Eldrazi on Zendikar. Her hope was that the Eldrazi, freed of their confines, would travel out into the Multiverse.

    It didn't work.

Forest: (1/1 Forest Elemental Land Creature. Haste)
Worldwake(4 Shield Support Card - Enchantment. Landfall: Your creatures get +1/+1 until end of turn.)
Seedling Ashaya, the Awoken World: (1/1 Elemental Creature. Haste, Trample. Leader: Elemental)

    The Eldrazi Desolation
The Eldrazi were inscrutable entities of the Blind Eternities, able to travel between planes to devour worlds. Unable to defeat the titans, the ancient Planeswalkers used Zendikar's hedrons to lure, contain, and immobilize them. They remained trapped in stasis and hidden for millennia until younger Planeswalkers inadvertently released them.

Eldrazi Scion: (1/1 Creature. Defender) When this creature is Destroyed, you gain mana equal to this creature's Power times 3.

    Standard Rotation

No changes to Standard Rotation in 2.9

@Brigby will skipping the update impact HoD?  Is it going to be a standard event now?
