Monthly Q&A

It's about time, isn't it?
I mean the answers are not always satisfying, and I'd bet they'll be mostly outdated again.. But it's the only way the devs are actually somehow communicating with us, and I'd like it seeing some love. Could you check on this, @brigby
?

I think they use "month" in the same way that they used "a month after release" for crafting of Dominaria cards.

I don't think they quite realize the point of the Q&A.   I mean, waiting a month after the questions are asked doesn't really help much (Most of the questions are about the M19 release, after all).

The concept is great, the quality and implementation aren't. Waiting a month to receive what mostly feels like fifteen minutes of work and often is so vague that I could have come up with it is..not the point. But sometimes there are interesting bits of information.

But here is the kicker.  They have a LIVE Q&A every week! No where near the resources of D3/Oktagon, no where near the cash flow... and yet they prioritize communication to the point where they do it at 2:00 PM EST every week, where 1 team member takes and responds to questions, comments, or abuse from the playerbase.

It's not impossible.  It's not even hard.  It's just not a priority.  Which is endlessly frustrating.
As awesome as that would be, I don't think we need anything that extreme (nor do I think Oktagon will be able to do it what with the language barrier and all).

What I'm hoping for is just some sort of dev presence on the forums.

Brigby seems to be commenting less and less and with less and less information in his posts, leading me (and others) to believe that he's getting iced out as well.  Diane, who is supposed to be Oktagon's forum representative has posted basically nothing (I think she has like 3 comments or something).  The promised monthly Q&As are pretty much not happening at all, since it takes a month for the questions to be answered (by which time they are usually already answered by an update or something).

I hate to make a comparison like this, but this is exactly what happened with Hibernium back before the game went down the **** for a bit (and they went out of business).  I sincerely hope that it's nothing that extreme with Oktagon (and I will say the quality of Oktagon's sets is certainly much higher than Hibernium's), but it is a disturbing trend nonetheless.

Off topic, what game is that?  I swore of idlers a while back, but if its a good one I may check it out.  (DM me the name, I guess, so we don't anger the mods too much)

Well, the good news is... there were 3 platinum brackets in RTO... meaning despite a lot of griping, at least people are logging in to play the big events.  Although, I have no idea if that translates to more new players or just older players finally graduating to the big leagues.

To preface this, I don't agree with it. But from their perspective, potentially... If they're late with the Q&A by weeks or a month, and by the time they release the answers the questions have mostly been answered, then from their perspective they may look at the task and think, "it's not worth answering this stuff in a diplomatic fashion when it's just going to be answered by content within weeks of posting." Perhaps the lateness of the replies is more a form of misplaced rationalism?

I for one would willingly choose to give up monthly Q&As if they promised (and delivered on that promise) to keep an updated list of priorities of everything they're working on each week. For instance, this week we're working on these specific bugs, and checking balance of creatures in standard, and working on a patch for the battery issues in the game. Next week, we're working on x, x, and x. But it needs to be specific, and it needs to be regularly updated. If things are taking longer than expected, they can post that a particular bug or problem or feature is taking more time than expected. This satisfies expectations, keeps the community involved, and helps set the foundation in case a change is necessary, because we'll have been following along with the progress.

I'll be expecting something like this:

    What's coming next?

Well we've got some great ideas in the works, as we're still getting caught up with paper magic.  Some great things coming your way!

    What about those bug issues?

We're thinking about what solutions we should implement.  We're working on it and hopefully you'll see the results a few update patches from now!  Expect it to cause several more to pop up though.

    So that rebalancing thing...

Yeah we did that!  Didn't get the cards you wanted but hey there's always the next Q&A!

    What's your favorite card?

    One of them!
    Don't forget these pressing issues:

Will M19 be coming to MTGPQ?

    Why yes, its already out!

Will M19 replace Origins as the base set for MTGPQ?

No, we will be treating it as any other set.

How will reprints be handled in M19?

Great question!  We will continue considering alternate options for implementing reprints to avoid the issues that commonly come with them while still allowing popular cards to remain useful in standard.  While we are analyzing our options, however, we will not be putting any reprints into M19.
This is a frighteningly accurate imitation.

Yep, for a moment I thought it was the real thing, posted as an answer in this thread.
The idea they could just give us informations regularly is utopic - it would be great, but they  don't manage (probably don't care) to invest the five to twenty minutes per month even in the platform they came up with by themselves.
I don't want to be salty, but I lost my faith and won't spent another time until this is resolved.
The worst part is, that we're often surprised learning they actually worked on things we wanted /discussed, even a small hint could've prevented a lot of saltiness.

Would you be open to make an own q and a based on the last submissions? That way, my most pressing questions could get an answer!

Hi Everyone. Sorry for the delay on July's Q&A session. Gen Con really put a wrench into things near the end of last month, and the beginning of this one. Since most of July's questions are technically still applicable this month, we're going to roll them into August's Q&A session instead.

If you want to submit a question for August's session, then please feel free to add your top 3 questions to the question submission HERE
