Brigby I’m having instances where I match Piper’s gem while also having a creature to cast from my hand, but nothing happens. The activation never occurs. It’s been tough to replicate. Seems intermittent. But it’s happened to me twice this morning now.
Hmm interesting. When you say "a creature to cast," are you saying that the creature in your hand already has full mana?

I wonder if Elvish Piper's current behavior is that it only returns to hand if there is a creature eligible to receive mana. Whether that's appropriate behavior or not though is up the designers.
In my particular scenario, the creature in hand had no mana applied to it. The activation seemed to fizzle. This was in Across Ixalan (all colors). I will test and see if this is event dependent.

That would actually be a really good design, then.  Tell them if it isn't intentional to just pretend that it is.

My experience is that Piper will not return to your hand now unless it has something else to send to the battlefield, which is a fix from its original state (It also use to blow itself up if you had a full hand, and it doesn't do that now, which is nice).

That said, it now apparently has some circumstances where it won't do its thing even when there's a creature to ramp out. I haven't been able to replicate the bug outside of Across Ixalan. It seems weird to me that the issue would be related just to that event, but I guess it's possible... I don't normally play AI, so my opportunities to further test it in that event are very few. If anyone else has Piper and wants to try her out in AI to see if she works, please do.

Just ran a quick test in today's Across Ixalan (White).  She worked fine for me.

Cool. Thanks for testing. I'll keep on doing what I've been doing and grabbing a screenshot before I activate her in the hope of catching it. To be totally clear, the two times I saw her fail, I had a zero-mana Ghalta at the top of my hand. In those cases, literally nothing happened. The Ghaltas never filled up with any mana, and the Pipers never left the battlefield.

Also, I had one time where she filled up Ghalta and then he didn't cast. That one was explainable, though. Ghalta has mana adjustments, so Piper filled up the dino's mana based on the reduced cost when Piper was in play. Then she left play, which increased the dino's cost above the point of stored mana.

That latter scenario isn't a bug, in my mind. But the first scenario definitely seems like a problem.
