As the proud owner of Counterspell, Choke, and just recently Aether Vial... I'd love to know if there's any chance they'll tinker with some of the terrible masterpieces to make them any better/playable? Any word from the Devs, ever, that they'd look into or consider this?

Unlikely. They’ve already stated they wanted masterpieces to be interesting but not inherently more powerful than other cards. No one wants to face off against a deck that causes you to lose as soon as the masterpiece comes into play (Omnicience) nor do they want players riding those cards to lazy victories.

    Edit:
I forgot that they DID adjust Electrolyze, so if a card is underperforming too badly, then I can see it being adjusted.

That's fine and all, but Choke is really terrible.

You've got my full sympathy here. That's worse than dupes!

Counterspell is surprisingly good in the right deck. Don't knock it so quickly. Choke is very specialized in the deck you would want to play it in but I've made decent use of it with Kiora and Storm the Vault. Good for Tutelage decks. You're on your own with Aether Vial though.

Aether vial, now that it was buffed to start at 5 shields, can be OK in a deck with starfield of nyx and really expensive creatures. That said, anything + starfield of nyx is strong.

Well, choke and counterspell might look useless... But they are useful compared to armagueddon anyway ^^

The only issue with counterspell is pricing.  It's too expensive for the specialized niche and rarity it holds.

Given free reign I'd probably redesign it along the lines of Jace's Defeat.  But I like it does something no other card really does.

    Choke is great as is.

Those cards you mentioned are already playable and fun build arounds. I understand that you want all cards to be no brainers like Omniscience, but come on. Show some creativity, dude.

Choke is actually quite potent considering one very important fact: the mana drain happens AFTER the gem match and mana gain, which means if your opponent's last matched gems were blue... they cannot cast their first card!

That's why I mostly use it in legacy decks that let me cast cards for free or generate enough mana that card cost barely matters.

There are definitely ways to use them, I'm not arguing that. I side in choke against blue walkers from time to time, and I've certainly run counterspell against Bolas and Ob. My point is that when I'm deckbuilding, there's almost always a better option(s) than these cards for anything I'm wanting to do. I named the thread incorrectly, because I'm not really concerned with their power level. I'm concerned that I don't find them at all useful or interesting, which should be the floor of masterpieces.

Well, what you are saying is like, kinda, the opposite of "Upping the Power of Masterpieces". So, may be edit one of those? This kind of ambiguity is annoying.

Didn't realize that I could edit the title. Change made to avoid ambiguity.

I think all we are trying to say is that these cards are useful to some people whether or not you might find them worth playing. That last part at the end might not have been very nice though. Lol

Would be relatively useable if they ever fix the bug on this one.

Some MP are useful , some not, and one is omnipotent. I only got some of the first to categories.

Yes MP should be interesting and nice to have, but not gamebreaking. They are hard to acquire, so a lucky one should not outrace the rest.

The problem here is what qualifies as "usable."  I have an Ornithopter, which many people argued was worthless, and used it a ton before it rotated out.  Now I have a Spiritmonger and am having a blast building around it.
I also have a dragon (white one), Chain Lightning (awesomely fun), and Maelstrom Pulse (pretty useless to me).

Some people think those are amazing, some think they're junk.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.
I don't really think any of them need a buff, although obviously that would be nice.  Not every card can be an OP insta-include in every deck

    I have Boil and Omniscience.

I hit both extreme ends of the spectrum with my Masterpieces.

I have this one , but haven't found any combo or theme to use it. Most recent land supports are flip cards that don't trigger the buff. Got it on the back burner for now.
