Why do you keep playing?

I have been on here since day 1. I have meet people in the game and then built a relationship with them on apps such as "line" or "discord". It is because of these connections that I have stayed on through some of the rougher spots of the game. I was wondering why YOU continue to play.

Similar reasons , plus real life makes playing paper mtg difficult. That makes this my best option. Not a big fan of mtgo , plus I'm a Mac user .

yep. Sucks that mtg arena is only pc based also. I live in the country and all the shops around me closed. I went back home (a city) and had a blast drafting Dominaria.

    I keep playing because:
    • The basic match-3 premise is fun
    • The artwork and connection to the MTG license
    • The community around my team
    • The thrill of winning or getting a perfect score
    • I have all the cards and it is super fun to play any possible deck

    I keep playing because:

    0) The coalition - this is above point 1, because it's THAT important!!! BlackVise is everything to me when it comes to MTGPQ. I enjoy events that we play good together, I get sad when we don't land top 10 because people are having issues, and I rejoice in seeing people get cool drops (especially juicy masterpieces), theorycrafting with them and watching them get better and better.
    1) I love the community. I am not really a big groups guy, and I'm not really in for the random chat, but I love topics related strictly to the purpose of the community (in this case, strictly related to MTGPQ).
    2) It's one of the few MTG connections I still have - I gave up paper a long time ago not having a nice and friendly paper magic community here. I miss paper magic a lot, so this is the best I came up with.
    3) It's a good time killer, in spite of all the issues.

    1) It's therapeutic!! PART 1:  I spent waaaaaay too much money on the card game (like $10,000+).  Addicted to opening packs and getting new cards to add to my strategies.  I spend less in this game, and the free packs here help me control that addiction.
    2) It's therapeutic!! PART 2: My paper mtg decks were waaay too powerful (no infinite combos), it got to the point where my play group would all gang up on me and I could still hold them off and win.  Mtgpq is harder, in my opinion, than paper mtg because it has an extra element of luck (gem swaps), so it's more challenging for me as a player, plus I don't have to worry about the AI being salty for only rarely winning ;)
    3) My Coalition: I've become quite fond of my coalition since I started it a couple years ago.  They're quite an awesome bunch! :)
    4) Convenience:  As other players have accurately stated, it's a lot easier to start a quick game on my phone then compare schedules with friends to find a time we can all get together and play paper mtg.

This is the same for me. That and I love antagonizing @GrizzoMtGPQ and @babar3355in our many controversial and not so controversial debates ;) ... JK guys. Seriously though, if it weren't for my team and this community, I would have left ages ago.

I just got back from Paris where I was able to meet several MTGPQ players.

I chat on a regular basis with people who haven't played the game in months or even more than a year, I consider them friends.

I love the community and all of the people I have met here -- at the end of the day, I think I would still match gems and build decks -- but I was super casual when coalition play hit and I probably would still be.

So like OP, it's the people.

I echo what has been said.  But one thing I’d add is there really isn’t anything like this out there.  It’s a PvE game where you battle other people’s ideas.  I like PvE because I don’t have to deal with rage quits and other immature behavior, I can take 2 hours to finish a game if I need to, and I win the vast majority of my games.

I have played Magic and Puzzle Quest games forever, every single version. All the computer magic games lacked the right "feel" and, while it still has issues, matching to get mana is SO much better than land and the stress in whether you'll get the right mana or not is good, as is things occasionally fizzing out or going critical.

This game wouldn't have been the same if it wasn't portable on my phone. I can fit in 10 minutes here or there throughout the day and that gives it a place other things don't have. It has depth and strategy and long term planning but I can still play 10 minute chunks.

My family plays and it gives us something different and reliable to talk about beyond the normal day to day things, but also there are useful metaphors in here for problem solving and long term planning and personality traits, there are jokes that are only possible in this world.

The community, the people here have rapidly become my online home. Not least of which because the audience skews older and more technical and intelligent and funny than most of the games which largely get younger users.

I find this game to be very addicting. Similar to what other people have mentioned, I don't have time for paper MTG, but this allows me to be creative and develop all different types of card combinations with different planes walkers abilities. Even when a new set hasn't dropped for awhile, I'm constantly on the hunt for new cards and the second i get my hands on even one, I'm trying to come out with multiple different ways to utilize them. I think even if i owned every single card (which by design would be virtually impossible) I'd still have fun coming up with different combinations and different variations based on PW or event

Been doing it for almost two years at this point and I see no reason to stop.

Boredom. Genuine boredom. I don't have enough time to play much else beyond mobile games and this is the only one I've played that didn't eventually hit a wall that would take weeks and/or months of effort to surpass unless I paid money to get around it.

I'll stop playing when the frustration surpasses the boredom.

There are many good things about this game and community, when it comes to why I keep playing though… Well, I'm a person who plays insanely grindy JRPGs for fun, dood. I tried several mobile games and the card-collecting in this one struck my fancy. I played relatively low key for quite some time (I started mid Feb last year), then crafting hit and I had enough to get NP and DH. That gave me enough of a crutch to offset my obsession with getting every Planeswalker before cards, and I now have all but Tezz 1 and am saving up for Dominara. The only thing I've ever paid for is Karn, I take ftp as a challenge. I got Karn partly because I feel I owe them some money after all this time, and partly because I really wanted to start messing around with 5-color decks and gilded lotus.

For me, it has been the community that has evolved around the game. I’ve met a lot of really nice and diverse (and like) people through this game. The original poster of this thread being one. ;)

Though I’m not a gamer as such and the last real game I’ve played was Diablo II. And that lasted for a couple of months. I do think that playing against an AI helps vent one’s frustration over programming and AI inconsistencies, rather than another human being. Making bonding with people here a lot of fun. I’ve been here since Innistrad launches and have enjoyed the atmosphere since. Respect to everyone here! ^^

Ive seriously considered quitting multiple times, but only stayed due to the friendships built in the game and I’d rather go through a rough period than lose that.

And of course, the reasons given above about the game itself is all true for me too - it’s a boring 3-match game that requires intelligent thought and strategy. It is brilliant in all honesty.

@GrizzoMtGPQ last bullet!  For the plethora of skeptics who think allowing players to collect all cards would be damaging for the game...  Just sayin'

I think the game is a lot of fun.  And although they don't always listen, I do think they attempt to take our general feedback into consideration.  Some problems are just not that easy to solve when viewed from a multitude of lenses. (veteran, newbie, developer, etc)

Despite all the flaws and disappointments, in the end this is still a really good game and keeps being fun.

And Karn just made it even moreso because he can play any combination of cards. This PW alone has opened hours and hours of entertainment value. Just wish I had more real places to use him. #dearthOfEvents
