Second Weekly Coalition Event?

We've now seen what's coming for new Ixalan events and it looks like there will only be one (really cool) coalition event -- so now (since we obviously don't want to play RotGP or Awkward Samut / Elspeth-fest as they are for the next 2-3 months)the question arises -- what existing content would you like to continue playing with your team?

For me (in order of preference)

1. OLD NOP (I'm NEVER dropping this -- I'll stop asking for more story mode or the return of QB first) -- in Standard
2. HoD / Breaking Points / Whatever they want to call it, but with all 30 PW rotating into the top spot -- and in Legacy
3. ToZ and RotGP in Legacy
4. PW Arena??

What are your thoughts on how they can keep old content engaging for us until the next set comes out?

PvE events will always be my preferred content even if it's more Return of the God Pharaoh considering there will be zero new events for Ixalan.

I already just tolerate PvP events as a part of the game, and more actively enjoy the puzzle of figuring out how to best play against opponents more powerful than I am, but who's decks and tactics remain consistent that is the higher node PvP battles. So to that end.... really anything to break the slog and frustration of only playing against opponents who will likely have more powerful cards than I do, and who I can't strategize against because I don't know what they're playing.

I'm right there with you -- I'm definitely more of a PVE player -- I've reinvented my strategy in RotGP so many times, it actually became fun again -- I do the same thing in Story Mode (love the late levels of BFZ).

I would really love the opportunity to go at ToZ again -- and play both of these events in legacy, so I hope that's in the works.

This really feels like a slap in the face.  I have put up with the lack of PvE events knowing a new set is coming.  And now it turns out there is no PvE in the new set.  I will certainly play any older PvE event they put up, but this really dulls my enthusiasm for the game.

For me, part of creating and strategy planning for a deck is NOT knowing what will be played against you (PvP).  It is simpler and easier to create a strategy for what you know is coming.  The unknown can be frustrating sometimes, but I find it more of a challenge.

I agree. More stale content after 6 months of waiting.

Another idea would be to change objectives on existing events.  Give us something new to do with them.

I would love number 2.Building for a designated PW is always cool. Rotating the designated PW would keep the interest high.
Your number 1. would be cool too.

For number 3, wouldn't God Pharaoh and Trial of Zeal be too easy in Legacy?

I agree with the order of choice in your post, with the addition of switching it up on the objectives. That would certainly make things interesting.

But above anything else, I want:
    1. Quick Battle - as it used to be.
    2. More Story Mode! If it takes too much to do this, can you at least reset the current story mode?? In that way I can grid on that and get more crystals, etc.

I think ToZ was the hardest PvE we have ever had and RotGP the easiest.

Legacy wouldn't add a new challenge to either, it would add a new element of creativity.

At this point, there is no way of adding new challenges for experienced players without adding new events, so why not add some fun?

I imagine that making new opponents to fight is more difficult than pitting players against each other through an event probably modified using the template of events prior.

That being said, I'm holding out hope that if enough of us express interest in wanting more PvE (or even better in my opinion Story Mode because permanent accessibility), then maybe they'll release some new events before they release the next set.

So far, Octagon has given us exactly what we want, just not all at once. lol.  If they're still learning, then I'm still willing to be patient.

I'd like more PvE too. Since the problem is time, what would you guys think of them pulling together a bunch of battles from story mode and tweaking the objectives? That should take a lot less time than choosing abilities and making decks.

I'll be honest here and say that the favorite events for me are and always were:
    *solo events*
    1. Nodes of Power - I just love the idea of playing with all 5 planeswalkers, starting only with 3 charges and the objectives are actually *interesting*. Plus it encourages lower tier players to diversify and have fun! But please, no more "runes only" rewards, they are really disappointing.
    2. Planeswalker vs. planeswalker events were A TON OF FUN (assuming you keep mixing them up for diversity). I get the issue with those is that you have to have both planeswalkers to make it worth it, but those were super awesome events I tremendously enjoyed. Don't ask me why, I just know I liked them. The objectives were ridiculously stupid for some of those, but they were some of the best events at that moment for me.

2xPVE events per week seem like a good ratio for me too, as long as they are NOT COALITION EVENTS. I finish a PVE event usually in a day or so, the 4 days are a bit too long for me. 3 days for one, 3 days for the other, with 1 day break between them would be so cool! Rotate those for diversity and keep rewards associated with the block as that would make more sense.

    *Coalition events*
Keep those coming one per week, but although I get people will love the new Ixalan events, I'd love some coalition legacy love too. I know Standard is supposed to dominate events as it's "the thing", but I bet newer players who are still in Bronze or even Silver would love legacy to be able to play with whatever mythics or rares they fish at that stage.
Besides, with the right objectives I see no reason not to have some legacy coalition events (as was AM).

P.S.: And enough with some of these tinykitty objectives that rely on the opponent while you're playing russian roulette, PLEASE.

I’d rather they take a few weeks and give us PvE more like ToZ than rush another RGP. I think that this set is going to be short cycled because they also want to get RIX out.

    What about HoD unlocked?

@bken123 HoD is PvP too...  I'd like to see Bolas get a Planeswalker event just one time, but I suppose Unlocked would probably still work out to 1/3 Bolas decks in any case...

I'm not concerned about PvE vs PvP -- I'm concerned with having 2 coalition events a week that aren't stale.

I would love a bit of _everything_ to stop staleness.

The only thing I hate is FIRF, but replace the 5 vehicles with _random_ objectives instead...

One little bit new little bit old thing that I would love to see at least once is timed well for Ixalan, do RotGP with legacy instead, it'd be new but familiar and, sure,  it'd be boring with repetition too, but it was something I used to think about while playing it standard so I want it legacy even just once.

@Kinesia I get the feel from the weird monologue about no PvE that future PvE events might all be legacy, which in many ways makes some sense in that newer players shouldn't be too upset that they can use any of their cards while veterans can pull the pig out to roast the common enemy...  It would make vampire decks a tad more interesting in Ixalan for sure (although the pirates, dinosaurs, and even the merfolk and illusions get little love that way)

OMG, that actually sprung up a stupid idea in my head. What if there was this PVE event (PVP could cause too much of a ruckuss and blame on the randomizer) with RANDOM secondary objectives? You get a pool of relatively well balanced objectives (that in no combination could exclude one another) and discover them at the beginning of the match
Now THAT would require some super heavy deckbuilding skills.
