Hi Everyone,
We know that many of you have been waiting for the January Q&A Session, and we want to thank everyone for being so patient. For those that are also looking forward to the blog post, please note that we are in the final stages of releasing that content, and we plan on posting its chapters incrementally starting next week.
For now though, we hope that you enjoy the answers that Designer Pedro Rauiz and Producer Arthur Fukushima put together, as teasers for the upcoming Ixalan blog post!
=====
Is it possible to make Masterpiece Boosters award a non-duplicate card?
For now, a couple of things will change regarding the newly-named Elite Collection (the name change will be explained in the upcoming developer blog post for Ixalan):
Are there any details you can reveal about your plans for expanding Story mode?
Currently, all we can tell you is that it won’t be an expansion of the current Story Mode per se, but more like a new way of incorporating the rich world and lore of Magic the Gathering into your gameplay experience (rewards included). We are all very excited about this idea here, however, our current priority is closing the gap between our set releases and MtG’s.
What are your plans for Events in the future?
Oh… Events… So much to say, so little time.
We are very excited about the new events in Ixalan (You can check them out in the upcoming blog post about Ixalan’s Events),and we will continue to incorporate what is unique about each Plane into our Event Design. Hopefully, this will help make events a lot more interesting and push you to find new and interesting ways to play the game.
Also, a quick note on older sets and events: If you enjoy these new events and would like to see our take on older sets, make yourselves heard in the forums and we’ll be listening.
Finally, just a quick comment on the Color Mastery issue. We understand that it isn’t an ideal solution for ranking, and we’re studying possible changes, however, once again, our priority right now is to catch up to tabletop Magic’s set releases, while making Events more attractive and interesting for all players.
Are there any plans to make Deck Slots more accessible to players?
Yes, there will be. In fact, you will be able to check out the new prices in the upcoming Blog Post regarding Ixalan’s Planeswalkers.
Are there any plans to improve the game so that it doesn’t drain battery life so much?
We understand this can be frustrating to users and we are currently working on a system that will lower the amount of data downloaded as you play the game. This is one of the main culprits that causes the battery drain issue and the future fix will show improvements.
Does Oktagon have any other plans of interacting with the community, beyond the monthly Q&A?
Right now, we are all working very hard to catch up with tabletop Magic’s set releases and we are very excited to work on MTG PQ. Moving forward, however, we’ll try to be as communicative as possible. While forum activity might not be possible on a regular basis, we are most definitely open to writing blog posts, or even put out some videos explaining new releases! Please provide feedback once the blog posts are live.

For now, a couple of things will change regarding the newly-named Elite Collection (the name change will be explained in the upcoming developer blog post for Ixalan):
- We’ve adjusted the drop rates and card pool for the Elite Packs in Ixalan.
- This means that you should have a much lower chance of getting a duplicate from your Elite Packs, and opening them will get you right on the way to becoming a resident, if not the mayor, of Valuetown!
- Finally, new bundles will almost always contain some accompanying Mana Jewels with them.

Thank you for sharing! I'm sure most of us will agree that this is better than more silence.
As for me, I just can't wait until next week!4 -

Really? That seems out of place. You can do better.

Does that mean more calculations client-side instead of server-side? That should end well.1 -
All this talk of proofreading and you don't even spell week correctly? Weak sauce. And the only weaker is what's in these answers. It's just a bunch of "stay tuned" statements. Yeck.0

When it comes to the answers, they are a bit sparse, but that's because the majority of the content is in the blog post. When we received the blog article, it was 30+ pages long, so we had to proofread all of that, then separate it into chapters for easier reader consumption.
Rest assured, you will have plenty of content to read up on once those blog posts are added.8 -
Some of these comments seem pretty negative, but I am happy you are giving us some information before the blog posts are ready. I look forward to seeing what you are doing in each of these areas, especially the deck slots! Thank you.

This one seemed lacking in information compared to other q&a's. While I appreciate the communication, it was basically just a preview to a preview.2
-
This is sort of the same as having a meeting before the meeting to talk about the next meeting.3

Awesome answers, looking forward to the main dish!
For people complaining about lack of info, uhm did you see all the stuff mentioned?
- new elite pack design with nondupes in mind
- cheaper deck slots
-battery optimisation
-increased mana jewel gains
- colour mastery is something they want to get rid of
- new story implementation, with rewards.
That is a lot of info compared to earlier q&a's that sometimes only gave info "booster crafting won't make dupes"
As a Q&A, this was really great!
Looking forward to the blog posts next week!11 -

Yes, there will be. In fact, you will be able to check out the new prices in the upcoming Blog Post regarding Ixalan’s Planeswalkers."More options/new prices doesn't necessarily mean cheaper deck slots. It might also mean a micro transaction of real currency to purchase a slot.2 -

"New prices" in the context of "more accessible" sure is a way of saying lowered prices, as you should otherwise say "there will be alternate methods of acquiring..."
And if you keep the currency, but change the cost, I doubt you would advertise it, if it was a cost increase2 -
Although answers were short and evasive, I get a good vibe about upcoming content so let’s wait and see2

Perhaps the team could consider adding settings in the future to limit the animations? Like high-medium-low quality (or even just an on/off setting would be amazing for now)
I have quite a list of things that I find totally unecessary and wouldn't mind turning off:
- Mana gain float (while superb, it sure lengthens the playtime too)
- Damage floating from source to target (simplifying it would be great as right now seems to be quite complex too - though I do see its value of knowing the source of damage - maybe have an animation source-destination with no crazy rays floating around for the low-quality option)
- Bonus +x/+x floating from effects to creatures, examples including Angel of Invention, Pig and supports in general (I really don't find the animation necessary)
- Multiple popups on tokens entering the battlefield (perhaps combine multiple tokens entering the battlefield into one popup only with a number)
- Reinforce animation also tends to slow things down if happening many times - don't get me started how irritating it is when Anointed Procession is around
- Energy and support gems animation (would be nice to also turn off as all those gems animating I bet take quite a bit of computing power)
- Popups on card draw are in general quite slow and irritating
- Long time to slowly add each effect icon on each creature - this is noticeable on creatures like Olivia or Pig that give two effects to each creature for instance and is a really slow process
I'm sure being able to toggle many of these settings would allow newer players or veterans who like a shiny experience to keep enjoy such an experience, while give others the option to speed things up and give their battery and GPU some slack.5 -
Rolling out a blog post today would've been a nice consolation for not having anything to do this weekend. Oh well.0

I appreciate the info, too0
