Which slice is best to go for if you just want to hit 900 and quit? =/
You need to be more specifc.  What type of rosters are hitting you and preventing you from reaching 900?

most 5* rosters can't really que 4* players below 900 with any sort of reliability or predictablity.  The target pool is so vast at that score, that MMR will have no trouble matching up 5* vs 5* players

What you probably need to pay more attention to is what scores and rosters are being presented to you.  The flip side of how MMR uses ELO scoring is that your target ques will give you an accurate representation of what scores are active AT THAT POINT IN TIME.

For example,  high level players define que lock as when the same 4 players are shown to you over and over.
If those 4 players are presented as
    player 1 10points
    player 2 4 points
    player 3  15 points
    player 4 22 points.

Then in that specific MMR band, the current relative lb is you (dragon nexus), Player 4, Player 3, Player 1, Player 2.  In that order.  That sentance alone should tell you that your going to get hit at a far higher frequency than player 2.

you can also find situations where
    player 1 64 points
    player 2  39 points
    player 3 44 points
    player 2 2 points.

The relative ranking here is Player 1, PLayer 3, Player 1, You (dragon nexus), player 2.  However the disparity  between these scores should tell you that MMR is having issues with finding appropriate targets.  This means high point players are shielding and you need to be watching out for low unfriendly names who might be coming out.

anyway getting to 900 is really all about developing a feel for what types of targets are coming into and out of shields and whether there is enough width in the current MMR to play more matches or play less matches before shielding.

I have a single champed Gambit, Bolt is not required.  I hit 1200 in S4 with 2 shields with miniGambit, featured, buff 4 star.

I recently just covered Gambolt as well and played slice 5 on SCL 9.  I paired him with Riri but my top 4* champs are only around level 280 unboosted.  I was able to get to 650 fairly easily and had to shield since the slice was so thin and I knew I would be a juicy target.  I was able to unshield and hit enough, despite taking some poundings myself, and reach 900 and shield again.  I think I ended the event with high 900's in points and ended up placing 11th in the bracket but 1200 was really going to be out of reach for me as I was losing points as fast as I was earning them late in the PvP due to late double 5* climbers and there being so few points overall in the slice.

slice 5 and 2 are notoriously dry for points, try s1 or 4 next time should be a breeze comparatively
