Nah.  At least, not at the level where you could say they're "growing".  Sure, if you hand them a 5* team and give them seed teams, they can do the match-3 and wipe it out pretty easy.  But if you hand it to them from scratch with the Prologue, they'll get frustrated before they get very far.  You need to be able to read to really "play" at any level beyond the simple match game formula.  There is a modicum of strategy when picking your teams and choosing where to invest resources.

It certainly doesn't require 30+ years of gaming experience, though.  8 and up, I'd guess, can do just about as well as an adult (one who doesn't spend, at least).

Wait... is this forum populated by a bunch of 3-year-olds? That would explain a lot.

They could win an individual match. Being competitive and building a top tier roster would be a no.

Can a 3-year-old win a match after you set up their roster and pick a team, and start the match? Yeah, sure, some of the time.

Could they actually -play- the game on their own? Probably not.

This is similar to Pokemon, a child can have fun in it and have "wins", but there is a deepness to the game as well. Although I would say Pokemon is deeper than this.

    Sick burn.
Not a burn. Pokemon has way more characters and ways to optimize every single one of them.

Imagine if this game let your character choose 4 moves but you got to pick from about 40 for each character. And there are about 800 characters to choose from.

Pokemon is deeper than puzzle quest.

On the other hand, all pokemon pull from a shared pool of moves, with very few pokemon having truly unique powers.

Pokemon is also 20 years old, of course, so we might expect it to have a deeper play experience than a 4 year old mobile app.

Also Pokemon is single vs single so you can't build winfinite or Gambolt type strategies.

However the real depth of pokemon is it's complicated weaknesses and strengths.

Double battles are fairly common now. Where you have 2 pokemon on the field at once.

There are even triple battles now, where even team placement means a lot (most attacks have limited reach). Also every Pokemon has an ability now (pretty similar in mechanics to passives in MPQ). Quite a lot strategy there.

    Bagfinity (Bag-fin-itee)
    1. An area beneath a grandmother's sink where she hoards plastic grocery store bags.
    2. A strategy in the online game Marvel Puzzle Quest where you infinitely lose; also commonly referred to as 'tanking'.

I don't think so. I don't think you could hand the game to just anyone unfamiliar to the game and expect them to succeed. Would they know to avoid match 5s against Jean? Avoid matching strongest color against Carol? Would they know to fire Nova's yellow before his red to send them airborne? I think anyone can do ok without all that strategy in mind, but only at a casual level.

I still play candy crush btw, level 2908.
