Re moderators

i am disappointed with the stance being taken re moderators.  This is supposed to be a community and we are supposed to be able to chat and discuss.  Occasionally this can get a little tense.  Having been on the receiving end of an unwelcome opinion I get this.  However. In all my time here I have never seen anyone swear and most of the aggression is misplaced frustration which I appreciate

therefore to keep closing down discussion because the moderators do not like the opinions being aired feels very wrong and a bit like 1984

instead.  Surely they should be listening to the comments and as most of these have come from long standing community members perhaps the opinions should be acted on?

Just to use use the power to close the discussion down with a warning not to open it up again goes against the principles of free speech.

I dont know the person who who they all seem to be objecting to.  And I guess I will be warned formally for this post. But I do believe in democracy and freedom of speech and that everyone is entitled to air their opinion. Whether welcomed or not

sorry guys.

Look, freedom of speech means you have the right to say whatever you want (actually if you look at its origins there's a caveat that states what you're saying must be true, but whatever).  There is nothing in there that says we have to listen to you or tolerate what you say.  Sorry.

I'd find offense to your comparison to 1984, but since I haven't actually read it I'll leave that up to someone else.  But saying you can't trash talk the new moderator hours after their appointment doesn't feel like a proper comparison based on what I've heard about the book.  Sorry (again)

@Mburn7. 1984 is more about big brother watching than freedom of speech.

I Can’t say I’ve ever seen a moderator in this forum.  Brigby is the closest I think in that he uses his judgement well and removes wording which might be considered offensive.  I’m ok with that.

He has also been known to move posts to the correct area.  Again no problem there either

he also makes good common sense descision on when a post should be closed down- it’s run it’s course or its gone off track. Again no problem

I have experience of moderating games. Galaxy legend - but in that case the chat room was in game and was huge with lots of players and lots of different languages being spoken.  In that instance the moderating was more around inappropriate language/ being racist/bullying or obnoxious etc. But this game doesn’t really have a chat area so I’m not sure where the role is utilised   Our own coalition has a chat room. But for members of the coalition only and we use the chat function in game rarely

as such can someone tell me where this moderating takes place?

Well it seems to me you've described the role in fact. Before Brigby we had moderators doing that. Organising and watching everything goes smoothly and respectfully seems like a good definition

That will free Brigby some time and we will at last know when Ixalan is coming!!! :-)

The whole situation was petty and broke the forum rules. The mods don't do a whole lot because they usually don't have to. Things get a little heated from time to time, but rarely personal. That mess was personal and personal attacks are against the rules. Brigby hops in and removes insults from posts. There's the tinykitty filter. Big brother is watching, but he always has been.

The responding moderators have already mentioned that if people have issue with the new moderator, they should take it up privately with Brigby.

They have provided an alternate avenue for people who want to pursue this issue. They have made it clear that these public forums are not the place for, I agree with the way @Ohboy put it, character assassination.

Whether or not there should be unrestricted freedom of speech, there is a time and place for everything. And the topics in question have been regarded to not be appropriate.

in all the 2 years i have followed this forum, these posts against new moderators are the first ones ive ever seen. To me this seems more like personal problems of these people against mods. Honestly let them do their work, if something goes wrong, we know where to complain

I have to say that the censorship of opinions is absolutely ridiculous and very Gestapo.
I know for a fact that opinions being voiced about new appointments come from direct dealings with individuals on other platforms.
All actions have consequence. If my actions cause others to have a poor opinion of me, than that is no one's fault but my own.
If I choose to take a very public posting that requires the support of the community, and my past actions cause a backlash of negativity, than I need to put on my big boy pants and accept responsibility for it.
Hopefully by doing so those that I have wronged may still not be my biggest fans, but may at least Grant me a modicum of respect for having accepted the repercussions of my choices.
To instead try to use my new authority to silence those I have wronged is not only a disgusting abuse of power but also a very clear indicator that I am not fit for my post.
That is just my own personal opinion based on my personal desire to be a moral and honest person.
I'm sure others will disagree, but that is their right to do so in a free society.
Don't forget...."the first link in the chain of oppression that we allow to be forged, shall bind us until the last of out days"

Public verbal warnings have been given about airing this type of grievance in public. Now official warnings will be given. As has been stated multiple times, if you have an issue with a mod or their decisions, take it up with @Brigby in PMs.
