Abilities that suck in 3* characters

  • Loki's Purple really starts to shine in a few key situations:

If you've just used Berserker Rage and all of your matches are doing a million damage, then shuffling into even a three gem blue match is a fine use of five purple.

If you've just used a color fixing ability and the board is a little saturated. Illusions after Oasis or one of Thor's (or Doom's) color changing nonsense gives you a pretty good rate of post shuffle matching.

As for his black: it turns Patch from a risky character into one of the greatest defenders in the game. Further, it allows you to invert Falcon's purple ability (or it will when that bug gets fixed, I assume it's in the queue with Ares' Sunder problem)--and if you aren't sold on the visual of Loki turning Falcon's flock or loyal pigeons into a murder of ravenous crows, then I don't think anything in the world will sell you.

Those things don't make Loki good, but they do make him kind of neat.

It's pretty great at smashing strike/defense/countdown tiles. You can target two shots anywhere and you get about 1400+ in tile damage.
Maxed red destroys 3 blocks of tiles even (I have a derpy 5-5-3 GSBW who I never use outside of HPK). It's just that it's ridiculously expensive, her own purple does a better job of clearing pesky enemy tiles.

Ah yes, I had forgotten about IM40. By the way, could someone explain why upgrading yellow from 2 to 3 is bad? Mine is 2/3/1 so, I don't know.

Also thanks for enlightening me about Punisher. As many guessed, mine is at 3 green covers, so I didn't know how good it could be. Also, I can't say that his ability has ever caused a cascade for me. It almost always strikes in a corner or a side for only 4-6 tiles destroyed, and that's it.

I disagree that GSBW red is bad. Yeah, it pales in Ap-to-damage ratio compared to other raw damage abilities, but still, it's a ton of damage that serves as finishing move for an already well-rounded up character. Besides you surely are pairing her with some green-red brawler character (to feed him green with her purple), who'll surely have a better red ability to spend your red AP on.

You raise the AP cost for little green generation (if your lucky, 6). But there are already good green batteries like Hulk, GSBW and the Thors.

Now with LazyCap, IM40 is the perfect battery for him when kept at 2 covers.

Raising IM40's yellow could be "bad", since it raises the AP cost of the ability, which makes it take longer to fire and also introduces additional risk to your countdown tiles. I still think level 3 is a decent place to have it, though - it helps along my GSBW when I used to pair them.

I've occasionally gotten decent use out of GSBW's red when fighting minions. You can often knock out 2-3 countdown tiles. It was invaluable in the one heroic she was in. It's usefulness in that regard is completely outclassed by C Mags, though I don't expect that to be the case in the future.

    Or hood's yellow
  • Loki's black power does well against Daken icon_e_smile.gif
  • IM40's powers are unlikely to be adjusted up because it seriously clashes with the $$$ element of the game. If you upwardly adjust older characters powers then it disincentivises people to pay money trying to get the newer characters (although the recent release of 'meh' characters like Falcon and Doom/Loki rewards is slightly at odds with that view).

It is great if you use it to generate green. It sucks if you don't care about green and want blue as then it will cost way more, especially in turn count terms. 10 AP comes your way very much later on an average board than 8.

And you're glad for that when the board is filled with your punisher's attack and strike tiles. icon_e_smile.gif While you also have fair chance to take out a couple of enemy tiles.
  • Most useless 3* ability in the game is definitely Rag's green, especially if you generate any useful special tiles yourself (strike, attack, defence etc) because there's a decent enough chance you'll be wiping them out yourself icon_e_smile.gif.

As everyone has said Punisher green is actually a decent skill on a very good character.

On topic though... other underwhelming 3* skills would be:
Hulk's smash (**** damage and has the cheek to have a drawback built in!). I'm not even the biggest fan of his green, I can find better uses for 10 green AP.
GSBWs twin pistols for the painful cost and so-so damage
Psylockes bewilder because if the enemy has enough AP to steal to be worth the cost I doubt they need that colour so unless I REALLY want it...
Lazy-Cap's Sentinel of liberty for being 19 AP. By the time i've got 19 yellow AP i've probably won or lost already and even if not then there's likely a lot of AP around so im facing powers where protect tiles are less useful.

Don't mind Loki's purple. If it makes 2 matches then you've gained AP overall from a relatively underused colour. His black is a bit pricey but can really help in lvl 395 Daken/Bullseye nodes if you can get the AP in time icon_e_smile.gif.

Also can be extremely effective vs. Daken.

I read this part and was like "I have 5 in Bewilder and I end up stealing Yellow A LOT of the time" - synergy? Although I suppose most people would rather use LCap's blue. Bewilder is a good way of gaining 19 yellow a little faster.
  • I don't think Loki's purple is all that bad. I ran him with Spidey and Patch in the GoL tournament and used it quite a bit as it was only 5AP. But since most people I faced were running OBW, I doubt they used it too much.
  • I don't like the fact that Recharge gets worse the higher you level it.

I find Sentinel of Liberty to be worth it when facing goons.

it's a good move...when you can pull it off.

    Which is approximately....never
