Punisher or LazyThor?

I'm killing myself on which cover to start levelling. It will be my first 3* cover that I start maxing out.
If you had the choice of one of these covers to level who would be most effective? I would most likely be running OBW 85 with them. I also already have 2* Thor maxed if that makes a difference.
I would love your educated opinions on this.
Thanks in advance.

Both are great, both are two of the strongest characters in the game so you can't go wrong with either of them.
I think it all depends on your playstile and the sinergy with the other members of the team. Thor is a slower character, depends a lot about yellow but has two very strong attacks, yellow has a big chance of generating a big cascade and has a ton of life. Punisher on the other hand is fast and very versatile, has AoE, attack tiles, strike tiles, cascades, a finish move, etc. Punisher is good in allmost all teams. Both of them can co with OBW, you have a bigger color couverture with Thor, but not by much (and OBW black is passive).
Personally I use both of them, but I LOVE playing with Thor. When I 'Call The Storm' I feel like a real Thor devastating my enemies0 -
Punisher/OBW is better on defense than LT/OBW, IMO.0

May I ask why? Because I think LT is a very strong character in defense. AI can't play him wrong if you pair him with OBW (or any other character without a cheaper yellow) and has a ton of life, witch is always a deterrent. So why Punisher is better?0 -

Though Punisher is close to my heart and was my first thing to gain all covers and for long stayed in the lead of my roster -- also really fun to play with and fit almost every team -- starting from scratch leveling LT is the pragmatic choice.
LT is about the most overpowered character in the game, especially if you consider defense in the mix. Building him to 3/5/5 and use all your ISO there just can't make you fail if you can go above 110.
Having ** thor is redundant except it likely provides you familiarity with how to play him (though it looks pretty no-brainer).0 -

My experience too -- with LT you must avoid anyone else with active yellow and it rocks on defense. Punisher is somewhat annoying as you will take a molotov before he dies most times, but that is not really big deal. And nothing to compare with a thor yellow+green that will not come EVERY time, but for the quite existing occasions enough yellows go there before you deplete his sea of HP it is really painful.
Now thinking of it LT/PUN/OBW looks like a really good defensive team.0 -

Just in my experience, I've wiped more against Punisher/OBW teams than LT ones. If you have trouble eliminating OBW quickly (or if The Hood is their third wheel), Punisher throws down his strike tiles and they can chew you up pretty quickly. Then his other low cost abilities do even more damage.
I find it pretty easy to deny AP to AI enemies that need double digits for their abilities (like LT). The worst you have to worry about is a lucky Thunderstrike rolling into a CotS. But, I've seen people sabotage themselves by running LT with Hulk/HT/Pun and you never even see CotS.0 -
Thor.
I'm not even sure how this is a question. It's not like you won't have them both, eventually, but Thor needs to go first. He's going to do the heavy-lifting for you.0 -
Whichever you have (or will have) more covers for. If it's even, I would say Thor. Second highest HP of any 3 star and plays well with a lot of other characters.0

Punisher is more versatile and goes better with oBW by covering her on black and comboing strike tiles and lvl 5 Espionage.
LT... I dunno. Sure he is the most powerful character in the game right now, but that hammer is a blunt weapon.
Ditto: lost much more games to the Punisher than to LT (Punisher can sneak up on you while LT is usually easily countered same way you counter Thor**).
Disclaimer: I dislike LT okay?0 -
The scenarios where I have problem with Punisher are:
1. Have LT with 3K HP taking a Retribution and forgetting that's less than 40% of his HP (user error).
2. Forgot to pay attention to black and ate 3 Molotovs (user error, though even then you can usually survive).
3. Took 2 Judgments (but LT can do a Call the Storm with the same AP).
That said if I forgot to deny black, I can easily forget to deny yellow too (if I don't have LT) and a single Thunder Strike can mess you up more than even 3 Molotovs.
The only high end character with a conflicting yellow with LT would be BP and Spiderman. But if you're starting from scratch, then you certainly don't need to worry about BP until your LT is maxed, and Spiderman is usually not needed once you've LT too. In the worst case you can simply switch Spiderman off the team for your last game.0 -
3* Thors health and damage alone are enough to destroy the punisher. Once mags and spidey are nerfed, 3* Thor will possibly be the best all-around character in the game, depending on how mags and spidey are changed.0
-
Oh come on Spidey and cMags cannot be nerfed without LT along.0
-
Thanks all for the insight. It seems the community is as split on the 2 covers as I am. lol
I'll take any more comments that are out there though as I still haven't made my decision. Also depends on a top 10 finish in the current pvp event.
Cheers!0 -
To me it also depends on who is paired with them. I hate OBW and I always kill her first, because if she is paired with LT or Punisher and gets a Recon off it can be a bad day for you. I still think Punisher can be more annoying as it's harder to deny his tiles.0

Both. I run pun/l.thor/mags (whenever allowed..not often) and the team is great. I would personally tell you punisher though if its either or.
Why? Well..
1. Punisher is boosted in 1/2 the lr, thor is not, leading to an easy race up.
2. Every team should have a strike tile user if possible. Look at this event. So many "easier" teams out there running obw (its every fricken team almost...), falcon (useless without tiles), lt that would have been harder swapped with punisher. Neither should give an issue to a good team, but your leeway against punisher in this event is less due to his tiles and thor having such high cost moves.
3. More versatile.
4. Will be slightly more helpful in pve battles against high lvls due to his red. Unless they change scaling, expect events go have MORE and higher lvls..not lower.
Neither is a wrong choice. Thor has a yellow (rare active color) a great green, and enough hp to make fights a little longer. Like I said, if you can, the answer is both. If you have enough to push one to 141, you may consider pushing both up a little lower as those last 41 lvl cost as much as the first 80 or so. 2 lvl 100 is far more versatile than one lvl 141.0 -
I maxed my Pun and I love him so much. Was kind of a lucky pull and coincidence in my early days, for I am a huge fan.
So, basically I would go with pun, because he is easily combinable with a variety of 3*s and a total beast in transition with OBW. While LT is a real good tank and when he goes in yellow+green combo a true train wrecker, punpun let's you play more consistent. The featured chars maybe unpowered but still dish out a good amount of damage due to the strike tiles and AOE black gets insanely powerful when your green hit the floor before. And I would also recommend thinking about the supreme rle of his red. PvE can be a breeze or pesky high level tanks can be dispatched with some math ( or, when you get used to it, just look at the cross icon slowly emptying. If you have a good eye for that you can easily pick off everyone hitting your execution range).
I always get the feel, that you have to set up a team to feed your LT. I dislike building around ppl and therefore am quite comfortable with punpun. He is also a postnatal abortion for almost every hero lightning round as long as you field OBW. Recon and constant healing with all his strike tiles and dmg output shred even 2x3* teams on a regular basis.
Word of the day: GODS BE GOOD I LUV ME PUNPUN0 -

LazyThor doesn't really need to be fed AP or built around: thunder strike costs a very reasonable amount of AP and will almost single-handedly generate enough green for call the storm. He easily fits on a ton of teams as well since almost no one has a relevant yellow ability. I think the main difference between the two characters is that Punisher is better in PvE as strike tiles + his red do a ton of work there, whereas LazyThor is a lot better in PvP. Punisher on defense is pretty mediocre: none of his abilities are that game-changing when used randomly, since the AI doesn't do judgement+molotov combos or use retribution when the enemy is below 40%, thus severely limiting his potential DPS output. LazyThor, on the other hand, has abilities that are AI-proof and can instantly end the game, with 3k more hp to boot. Since enemies are capped at 141 in PvP, Call the Storm still does enough damage to be devestating to the enemy team. I like both of the characters, but have moved to LazyThor for PvP and Punisher for PvE. I think both are solid investments, but since you generally need more help in PvP than in PvE since that's where most of the rewards are at, I would go with LazyThor.0 -
Punisher historically has been featured in a lot of PvE's, although Lazy Thor is relatively new so it's a bit unfair to compare.
Punisher is also featured in the lightning rounds and levelling him would be good to progress in the LR's too get more covers for Patch, Spidey, Hulk, IM40 and Grey Widow.
He's a good all rounder.
Thor however is tankier, does more damage and is generally a stronger character who will probably serve you really well in PvP and PvE alike buffed or unbuffed.
Thor would probably be a better choice generally although Punisher would probably be better in the long run if you intend of making good use of heroic lightning rounds.0
