Is there a reason why girls have lower HP?

Now for the love of all that is holy and good, DO NOT make this an angry argument about stuff, okay?
Okay, thread time.

It's something that struck me the other day. Why does Carol Danvers 4* have such little health compared to others? She's the Marvel equivilent of Super Man. She can absorb damn near any amount of energy into herself. Yet she has the same HP as Iceman. She has less than Peggy Carter, who is strong and hardy, but she's mostly behind a shield for that. She has less HP than Kingpin. She has less than Spider Woman. Conversely her 3* version has a high HP pool. In fact it's one of the highest in 3* land.

I'm also thinking Riri Williams, too. She's in an iron man suit and yet she has maybe the second lowest HP in 4* land after Professor X...who's a disabled man in a wheelchair. Why does she have less HP than Kate Bishop (who, coincidentally, has the same HP as Carl Danvers)

It's odd to me. A few characters seem to have disproportionately low HP compared to what their actual character would suggest.

Agree with the exception of Riri.
I have not seen her to be a power House yet, maybe because she gets downed before I can get a power off.

Lol @StarScream, even if it is wrong to do so...

well consider the fact that 4* Carol's black hits like a truck and whenever she has 5 yellow AP she can fire it off at any time she wishes. 4* Carol's DPS is already ridiculously good so giving her low HP is only fair. do you have any idea how broken she would be if she had Hulkbuster levels of tanking? it would literally decimate every other 4*, male, female or Apache Helicopter identifying

Jeez, I never understood that controversy.

Hmm...I suppose that much is true.
I'll maintain a case for Riri though. Yeah she's a teenage girl, but she's in an Iron Man suit. The movies show Tony getting slammed into every wall, bridge support, missile launch tube and mansion ceiling he comes across with barely a scratch.

    its a trope in games.

In this one, most females are glass cannons with a source of intense famage output or can heal themselves/ their team, both of which give a lower health total, you'll find the ones who can't do either have more normalized health, but few out of those that qualify are worth mentioning.

I think the only "girl" in the game is Riri. Maybe Kamala, but she really more of a young woman...

As someone in my alliance pointed out, it seems wrong to be pointing out the sexism in the game, and referring to the female characters as "girls"  :D

To be fair, that's largely how Marvel has been pushing Danvers the last few years. She's been pushed as their top female character ever since they knew they were going to do a movie about her. The writing and sales haven't quite backed it up, but she's still getting pushed as the biggest, bestest, most beloved superhero the MU ala Superman in the DCU.

Eh. I think she's supposed to be a glass cannon. Her red hits harder than Hulkbuster and he's meant to take down the Hulk. They just need to tweak her blue. I saw someone suggest her blue should should turn tiles red to feed the rocket punch. That and maybe remove sending herself airborne at 5 covers and I think she'd be a good high risk, high reward character.

I thought the actual criteria that was used by the devs, per their own comments, was to the effect of "we give some thought to how strong we believe they are and give them HP accordingly". I feel this was referring to why Riri had such a low health pool.

My understanding was that health is balanced with strength/abilities, which is why dudes like Wolverine and Doctor Strange at the 3* tier have middling health. Both can heal (though only Wolverine's is true healing) and both have an ability with solid damage for the tier.

Daredevil, on the other hand, has about 50% more health, but that's balanced with the fact that his red is conditional (and with a bad board may never get used at all) and his purple is dependent on the enemy creating special tiles.

I don't think Riri is a well-designed character in terms of her powers within the game but I also haven't really had the chance to play her properly yet, so no comment on that.

But I can say that for instance Kate Bishop is another character who hits like a truck so low HP is justified and X23 like most Wolverine-related characters has true heal regen which justifies her not having a huge health bar AND it's actually appropriate because neither she nor Wolverine are super strong in the normal sense, rather their strength is boosted by their metal skeletons and their regenerative powers

also Spider Woman is a great defensive character and in my opinion underrated. I assume the AI probably doesn't play her well though

3* Cap Marvel has decent health also, not too far behind Colossus who is a specialist defensive character. C4rol is an anomaly it seems.
