Do you just rely on event rewards and daily packs or something?
That's actually super impressive1 -
First time I've participated, and so far have gotten my crystals back via winning all my games through heroic node. I'm fine with this structure and would regularly play if I had a realistic chance of getting my crystals back. I would still SIGNIFICANTLY rather have a random rare as opposed to the free booster. I'll take the guaranteed rare over the (so, so, so low...) chance of a mythic0
-
A rare over a booster is too generous, since a premium pack with a guaranteed rare is 300 crystals.0
-
I hadn't realized how they made the payback much easier until this sale. Last time I played you had to win 100%, now just 66%. It makes full price look more tempting too.0

I never played TotP at 60 crystals; but at 30 it's attractive enough for me to get into it.Kyokudai said:
Supposedly a premium pack (300 crystal one) has better odds for rares/mythic pulls

Premium pack comes with a bonus rare.0
-
The question really boils down to how much you would pay for a random rare.

If they keep it this way, I will play Trial of the Planes every day. It will be hard to go back to the old model.0
-
This is one of the things they've done right, and I applaud them for it. It kicks a little back to the players.

I agree. This is a much nicer price. Definitely should get one booster pack and odds are that you should also get your credits back - not always a given but you should pick up some gems or the such as well. Actually fun and challenging and priced right now1
-
Suddenly unobtanium feels a touch more obtainable. I just wish the packs had all the cards in them though...1
-
I don't expect this all the time. I think it's a nice occasional kiss on the cheek for players every once in a while. So again a little more this keeps things feeling a little bit more airy.

Just to prove my previous statement, I am not paying TotP anymore since it reverted to its former entry fee.2
-
Well, I am not sure it was as much a kiss on the cheek that we can expect in the future, rather than a one time "sale" to try and lure more players into the mix.
From a pure math basis it's clearly a good deal for players who can consistently win 8 or 12 nodes.
Option 1:
Spend 300 crystals on a premium pack
Option 2:
Play TotP every day for two weeks. 10 days x 30 crystals = 300 crystal total cost.
Option 1 yields: 25 cards + 1 guaranteed rare.
Expected cards: Mythic: 1% x 25 = .25 mythics
Rares: 4% x 25 = 1 rare. + 1 guaranteed = 2 rares
Option 2 yields: 200 unobtanium & 10 boosters = 50 cards.
Expected returns: Mythics: 1% x 50 = 0.5 mythics, 200 unobtanium = .5 mythics = 1 mythic.
Rares: 4% x 50 = 2 rares
So you get more expected mythics (including half of a guaranteed, targetable mythic/masterpiece) and the same amount of expected rares. You don't get a "guaranteed" rare, but you do get 1/2 of a guaranteed mythic.

I was told there would be no math.1

It just amazes me that we have really solid statistical data on drop rates and yet we seem incapable of answering simple questions like... should I play this?0
-
I might actually try this event sometime if they fixed the timing.
1. They don't run it on weekends. Big mistake.
2. During the week, when I have time to play, the current event is ending, and the next event doesn't start for another hour after the prior one ends, so I actually don't have time to play either of them.
Still haven't run this event a single time. Even during the 30 crystal sale.
Edit: Just ran it this morning for kicks (instead of working!), now that I have N3 and Kiora running Drake Haven. Didn't lose a match, but there were some tough decks that I simply would not have beaten if I wasn't cheating with cycling.

Seriously?
I wasn't even the only one who tried to show the math
The answers have always been there. There are none so blind as those who refuse to see.

I really really appreciated the lower cost. I couldn't afford to _risk_ my crystals on the full price. The lower price makes it ok. I can usually get the first booster but not always, I am _not_ at the level of the masterpiece decks that are rampart so competing is hard.
This is _not_ something people can just afford to take part in. The elitism actually makes it _more_ restrictive and hard for anyone to break in.
The lower price should be permanent.
With the masterpieces and mythics... Pricing needs a balance run. There are a lot of things that are good cards but too expensive to play and others that are being gotten out far too quickly and breaking the gameplay balance.
Doing things like restricting people to 1 masterpiece per deck and 2 mythics per deck would improve balance and let people play against each other better. Since we can't pick our opponents the balancing between people needs to be a lot better.
