Poll: What are the most important things to fix for scaling?

Whether you like scaling or not, I think we can expect that it's not going anywhere any time soon. So what should the devs fix to make scaling more enjoyable?

Let me know if I've missed anything or if I've gotten something wrong.

  • You've missed the most important (IMO) thing to fix scaling - fixing the broken character powers that make ridiculous scaling necessary in the first place.
  • Should Scaling Be Based Solely On The Total Level Of The Party You Use?

Community scaling is the #1 problem, with it going to 400 as a side effect
  • Scaling is working for me, so there's no need to change anything.
  • Where is the "all of the above" option?

Yup. This is the primary problem. Personal scaling makes a certain amount of sense. Community scaling doesn't.

I assume you're referring to Spidey? I didn't put that as an option mainly because although he is a big impact on scaling, it's really a subpoint to community scaling. If community scaling didn't exist, you wouldn't have your levels raised by Spidey users. Individual scaling only would mean that people who prefer to use Spidey will have to deal with the their own consequences of higher scaling and drastically longer matches.

Lol, funny you should mention that. I suggested something like that in my third post on the forums. It has flaws, but I thought it has some merit. http://www.d3pforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2379

I was going through the poll like this, option by option:

    "Yeah that's it, check."
    "... that too".
    "... and that."
    "aaaand that too."

*Looks at rest of the poll*.

Yep, I would tick every single box if the poll would allow it. That's how broken the system is.

Spidey is the worst offender, to be sure. CMags probably also belongs on the list. OBW is an issue as well, because she allows people to cheaply heal damage in Prologue.

Actually, I think scaling should be based on your roster, not necessarily the team you use in a given mission.

Yea, I was mulling over whether to put an "all of the above" option, but I wanted the poll to really represent the 5 biggest problems that needs addressing rather than everyone just voting "all of the above". icon_e_smile.gif
  • There's no, "The system is mostly fine." option.

    That's what I would pick.

I would have liked to see an option that it is a horrible mechanism and PVE was way more fun before it was implemented and there is no saving it.

It's only fine for players going to disproportionate lengths to accommodate the game's warped sense of ramping up difficulty or for players that are veteran enough to have a stable high-leveled 3* roster allowing them to compete hassle-free far into the event. If that's the one you'd pick; congratulations you belong to the 1% minority.

 Put it up on the vote and see if your 1% theory is correct.

This game has >ALWAYS< been about adapting to the meta-rules of this game. Since day one. Those that do so more effectively, thrive more. From using rubberbanding, tanking, character bugs, communication, join times, push times, shielding, etc etc. Adapting to community scaling is no different in that regard.

It's probably closer to 2%, since that's about the percentage that gets all 3 covers in an event. icon_e_biggrin.gif

I think the best fix for scaling would be to not make PVE competitive.

Edit: Good thing I'm a mod and can delete my double post. Posting fail icon_redface.gif

In most games, abusing bugs is grounds for administrative action. It's rather unusual that D3P would build features around it.

Toxic, the goal of this post was to hopefully be a helpful insight from the players to the devs. Even you admitted that it was mostly fine, so what would you like to change?

That was what I was about to ask, lol.

I can only judge by what other says on these forums, since my experience in no way matches theirs. But, I think that toning down the 'carryover' of PvE scaling seems to be needed. Not eliminated, just toned down.
