Strange Sights Mini-Vaults 4*s Replace with 5 CP

The second run of Strange Sights was not a release event, it was Mordo's first essential PvE.

kinda wondered what they'd do this time
since i'm low on hp an underwhelming vault is perfect1 -
I'm struggling to understand why they couldn't have just put some of the vaulted 4*s in there. What is the point of us having these vaulted characters anymore if the only way we can earn covers for them is through Bonus Heroes?0

If we are getting ready to move to daily 4 stars (in Deadpool Daily), then this is fine.
If not, this is yet ANOTHER example of what the devs think of their players.
@Brigby can we PLEASE have some dev feedback? You have some really alienated customers right now.5 -
It's really embarrassing to be honest. I don't know if this was an oversight but I couldn't think of a single situation where this would be a good deal for someone unless they just have money to throw away.
For the newer player who might be naive enough to think they should buy into this vault, you have my condolences. Even if you are only dropping a few bucks to meet the 3600 hp, it won't take long before you realize you've been swindled.
Stuff like this is just bad for the game. I've never been one to attack the devs, hell, I've poured my fair share of money into this game and I don't regret it, but your players deserve better. Stuff like this might make sense in the short term but long term it really just shatters people's confidence.3 -
Does anyone know if the tokens for these vaults can be saved for later runs? At this point I don't even care to open the 1 free token I'm getting from it.1

@Brigby - Just wondering if these Strange mini-vaults are a mistake? Having the top prize in each vault being just 5 CP (in CL8, no less) seems to be so off that it must have been unintentional, right?
Even if I put on my most cynical lens toward D3 and presume that all they want to do is make a big cash grab, this prize structure still doesn't make any sense. I could potentially understand it if they were just looking to reduce prize quality in these mini-vaults by not making any 4-stars or Legendary Tokens available as the top prize anymore since the odds of getting them in these mini-vaults are pretty good. (Personally, I wouldn't like that reason and still feel that it's silly, but at least there's a little bit more logic to it.) But, what I really don't understand is why would anyone would price these vaults at 3600 HP? There are concurrent ongoing vaults where I can do WAY better for 3600 HP than any one of these mini-vaults! The new Heroes for Hire vault is the perfect example. I'm one of the "lucky" people to have the 3600 HP version of the Heroes for Hire vault. One can argue whether 3600 HP is a fair value for what Heroes for Hire is offering (and I know that there's a whole separate thread for that), but, I don't feel that anyone can argue that the 3600 HP Heroes for Hire deal isn't a million times better deal than the Strange mini-vault.
Seriously, how can this...
Strange Mini-Vault:
5 - Command Points
3 - 3* covers
3,500 - Iso
4 - Elite Tokens
11 - 2* covers
be even remotely equivalent to this...
Heroes for Hire:
1 - targeted 4* cover
8 - Elite Tokens
10,000 - Iso
3 - Command Points
Just on the base fundamentals, I'm getting 23 CP (20 CP for the 4-star, plus 3 more CP) worth of goods with Heroes for Hire vs. only 5 CP in the mini-vault. On top of that, I'm getting 10K Iso vs. only 3,500. Even if you're relying on the mega-whales to mass whale everything, why would anyone spend here? The Strange mini-vault isn't worth the underlying the code that it's built on.
So, long story short, please tell me this was a mistake?3 -

The cynical answer is that the old vaulted 4* don't sell tokens any more to the only buyers that matter, so we may never see them in tokens again, beyond the 1/300 shot in the taco vaults (assuming the devs don't foul those up too, which they very nearly did not long ago).

Pulled that 5 CP yesterday from the previous 4*/Legend Token slot. Pretty annoyed.0

The more cynical answer is that 4*s were finally getting to the point where they could compete with 5*s when boosted (perhaps angering the whales). With vaulting (under this theory), it will be easier to cover new characters but they will be vaulted before anyone can get them up to levels where they can compete with 5*s.
Not that I subscribe to this theory (and I don't know at what level 4*s can compete with 5*s), but it has been proposed.
The best bet for getting an answer to some of these questions may be the Puzzle Warriors podcast. Last time, they said that they wanted to get the devs back on the show and ask them more questions about vaulting (in particular, why they didn't just put the vaulted 4*s in the classic legends store), so maybe you should send questions to them. Of course, even if they gave an answer, a lot of people on here probably wouldn't believe it.

Hi Everyone. I just spoke with the developers regarding the Strange Sights vaults, and here is Anthony from Demiurge with a bit more info:Starting with this run of Strange Sights, the event will be entering our normal rotation of Story events. The previous two runs of the event celebrated the release of the Doctor Strange movie premier and the subsequent digital release of the movie. Now that it's part of our regular rotation, we've adjusted the rewards that were in the artifact vaults (Orb of Agamotto, Book of the Vishanti, and the Wand of the Watoomb vault). The top reward of these vaults has been changed to 5 Command Points. We have also increased the amount of points the Kaecilius boss battle was worth to 1,400 points (from 200) to help the battle feel feel more impactful to your overall success in the event
TL;DR 4-Star characters in vaults was to celebrate movie premier and digital release. 5 CP for top reward is the normal reward, now that it is in regular rotation. Also, Kaecilius boss awards 1,400 progression points instead of 200 now.
I hope this helps provide some more clarity!

Well, thanks for bringing us an official answer.
(Even if I can't understand the reasoning, 3*5% chance at a 4% cover wouldn't have broken the game)

So...Reducing the prizes & keeping the price the same was intentional.
Another great job.1 -
The developers behind this game can be so stingy about the strangest things.1
-
So the first time it ran, it was a Strange vault token that was guaranteed at least a 4* cover and a 10 percent chance at drawing 5* Strange, right? Not to mention one of each cover for Strang3. I know that much, because I pulled at least one of them.
Second time it ran, it was one cover of each color for Mordo. I remember, because I got a blue.
So before, you could have emptied each one for 10,800 HP and gotten at least three 4* covers, if not a 5*. Now you get not even enough CP for one pull from Classic Legends?
Look, I understand those were release/celebration events, but the drastic drop in value of these mini vaults is pretty stark.
I guess the good thing about this event is that the general vault tokens still fall like rain.0 -
This company loves its customers so much that... insert witty remark here.2

I'm just glad they announced it openly at the beginning, and we didn't have to badger them to get an announcement on this permanent change!0
