AI is Stacked Against Us --Nodes of Killwind

This time the broken matchmaking seems to have gone full hibernum. Had Mersicide and Brian in all my lvl 60 matches.0
-
I'm guessing all y'all who played Killwind were in the last bracket.... trying to join at the last second so there'd be less competition, eh? I hope you managed to play all your games before the maintenance kicked in.
What I want to know is, why would Killwind's inactive account be placed in the last bracket too?
I think we should at least prepare ourselves for the possibility that maybe Killwind hasn't deleted his account at all.0 -

Well I know for a fact that Killwind is actually gone. He deleted the app on Saturday -- yet we still played Nodes of Killwind this week.
I'd like to hear from anyone at Hibernum who can answer for this -- matchmaking is screwed and we deserve and explanation.
DITTO ALL ABOVE.
I did play Ultradaved 1 x, just for some variety I guess, otherwise all killwind, merciside, and brianshteev wrote:I'm guessing all y'all who played Killwind were in the last bracket.... trying to join at the last second so there'd be less competition, eh? Acctually I didn't, I joined about 7 hours prior to start of event0 -
Interesting. I joined a few hours after the event had started (hoping to get my revenge on ultradaved) but it sounds like we were all in the same bracket.
If that is the case, then the game doesn't have nearly as many platinum players participating as we once thought.0 -

I didn't join until 7:30 this morning and I was in the first bracket. Seems the player count has dropped.0 -
Apart from it being posted here, there's no way for the game to know he's deleted the app, and furthermore there's no incentive for inactive accounts to be removed from matchmaking. Unless the entire account was deleted his decks will continue to face us all, as I suspect was his intent given the statement he changed all his decks to Baral infinite loop decks before leaving.
Eventually Baral will be changed, and his decks will be able to be easily taken down with the unchecked power creep that exists in this game. Ultimately it's a favor to us his account still exists and remains a go-to opponent choice.0 -
I am not in Plat so I didnt run into Killwind however I did face the same 3 players in Gold for almost every node
seem weird that out of 1000 Players i would keep seeing the same people0 -
So bad. I'm Gold so I didn't play these guys but I constantly see the same names, so much that I wonder how many people are in Gold all together.0

I suppose it's possible that he joined the event and then deleted the app. That could explain why he's still a valid opponent0
-
I joined right at the start and didn't face any Killwind or Brian1125. I had some MarsDeons and Gunbunnys.0

I don't think you have to have joined the event to be matched against the person. I've seen more than once being paired off against players with a score of zero which either meant they joined and either lost every match or haven't played, or they never entered in the first place.0 -

Hooray for rampant power creep and terrible matchmaking.0 -
Poor Killwind, the devs are Necromancers, confirmed!
They couldn't let the old warrior rest in peace. Instead they had to raise his corpse from the grave to protect their prized Masterpieces from the hapless players!
Quite thematic with the release of Amonkhet, congrats Devs, Killwind has Embalm!0 -

He deleted Saturday.0 -
I think I faced Killwind only once in this NoP. I faced that new Cr8zy4you2001 dude a bunch of times. He also loves Baral (yay). Ran into Yvendros and Capricorn a couple times. Didn't see Brian or Ultradaved, no Merciside. Surprisingly I came across a lot of players I didn't recognize. Perhaps my "ELO" has dropped after getting zerged a few times in the last two events.0

So one point of defense here for the Devs, it actually makes sense to populate the deck pool with decks from previous rounds of the game. Otherwise, what does the first player play against? Themselves? And the second player only plays against the first? Sure, the could use randomly selected decks from the joined player pool but those are less likely to comply with objectives.
I assume that what they do is maintain a pool of decks which carries over. Presumably, they prioritize decks in that pool which tend to win, hence the prevalence of Killwind et al.
A better solution would be to have the deck cache exclude decks from people who aren't joined but I can see that not being a top priority when designing this. I'd rather see them focus on removing decks which never meet objectives. And hopefully, the cache gradually removes old decks and adds new ones. Hopefully...0 -
I would say, of the many issues I would like them to resolve with the game, people showing up in events after they leave or don't join an event is really low. Removing non-event compliant decks seems like a much more worthwhile use of their time. Or card bugs, deck slots, a new Planeswalker selector, showing objectives before events start, ....0

I want to know the answer to this question, actually. Looks like he joined the event to me. On the leaderboard, faced his decks. Occam's Razor says he joined, not that D3 is screwing with us for fun.0 -

Your Occam's Razor might need sharpening.
@Brigby this seems like a thread that you'll lock soon. Care to make some sort of statement about zombie players in events before you do?0
