  • I hearby join the revolt against the update!

As a loyal player of MTGPQ I fully support the gaming community's protest against this update. Largatha hit the nail squarely on the head with the letter to you at D3/ Hibernium. Devs, you have a cool game that many people love and are willing to support financially. So please use the feedback and have a more open communication with us. I think and hope that together we can make this game awesome.

Maybe this revolt will be the wakeup call that's needed! Here's hoping!

  • I'm not even that upset with the new update, as there's been glaring issues with the game since I started playing nearly 6 months ago and there's no sign of them ever changing.

    1. Terrible card design. The powerful cards in every set get pooled into a select few mythics and rares, especially in this block, where they're pushing infinite combos and FTKs (Gonti's Heart and Baral, as if you didn't know the culprits). When they released blatantly broken cards like Olivia and Deploy that could win the game on their own, I prayed for them to be fixed, even though i knew they wouldn't because people spent money on them either directly or indirectly and those few people's opinions are valued more than the health of the game. What i really didn't think is that they would ever power creep them, but they managed to do it in one block! These cards are also very hard to obtain, which leads me to my next 2 points.

    2. No trading or crafting system. I've never played a digital card game without one, and I've played a lot. This is going to be a huge red flag for me in any game I try out from now on. The only way of getting cards is to subject yourself to the awful pull rates of packs and event rewards, and even when you are lucky enough to get a rare or mythic, if it's not a duplicate it's usually junk anyway. I would have never made it to a top 10 coalition if I hadn't gotten incredibly lucky and pulled cards like Deploy, Decimator and Emrakul earmy on. Other players aren't so lucky. My coalition members and I still struggle on certain events, because a lot of them require you to have very specific cards to meet the objectives. Remember how you were expected to beat 3.1 in RatC in 4 turns? Remember how the only way you could do it was by having 3 specific mythics, one of which was in the set that came out less than a week ago? Of course the devs could do it, they have access to every card in the game, but at this point there was probably enough players who had all three cards to count on one hand, which pretty much excluded the entire player base from the objective. Even at 7 turns you need a combo deck that a wide majority of players still don't have to do it consistently. Some players have defended this by saying if there was a trading/crafting system, then everyone would have broken cards and decks, well then refer back to point 1 and stop printing broken cards! It's not fair that luck of the pulls is what determines how competetive you are at an event. This is the only game where you can pull a bomb rare and groan because you already have one and dupes have no value.

    3. Terrible pricing on in game purchases. I'd love to spend some money on this game, I really would. But this game has the worst pricing I've ever seen. You could spend several hundred dollars on this game and you wouldn't be able to build a deck that can beat the second nodes on RatC. You could build a full power standard deck in paper Magic for that price and it's not known as a cheap hobby. My heart aches for the people who have spent hundreds to thousands of dollars on this game, as they're all still missing crucial cards that they need. For comparison, I built two tier 1 decks on the Pokémon TCG online client a few years ago for about 20 dollars each and the free packs you get for completing the campaign. I had tier one decks throughout the 2 or so years I played Hearthstone and spent about 70 dollars on it. You could have bought all the content in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Generations for 400-something dollars before the recent update, and there's a lot of premium content in that game. So I can't justify making any purchases on this game when I could spend that money on a far more enjoyable game that gives me much better value per dollar spent. I've read so many stories in our slack group of people buying 70-100 dollar deals and getting nothing but duplicates or buying exclusive cards, which are usually the best value you offer and then pulling duplicates of them a couple days later.

    4. No deck slots. Especially with event objectives becoming more and more specific and specialized, it would be nice to build a deck for an objective and have it available to play with when we need it. Countless hours have gone to waste because we have to keep rebuilding our decks over and over and over again, for RatC I probably have to build a deck about 40 times per event because every node requires a specific deck to beat it, to say it's tedious is not saying enough, a significant portion of this game for me is just deck building and that's not good considering how bored I am of this game already.

    5. No new content. There hasn't been any new story mode chapters since BfZ, Quick Battle is mind-numbingly boring and very time consuming for such paltry rewards, and events have been mostly boring and requiring you to play garbage tribal decks and set mechanics while you get stomped by optimized QB and combo decks that aren't playing for the objective and can't even participate in the event. The color mastery system has almost nothing to do with your card collection or ability as a player and some actual match making/rating system needs to be implemented

None of these have anything to do with the new patch, and I have plenty of more grievances but this is already too long. I'm probably going to quit soon, if it wasn't for my coalition and the great community we've made, I would have quit a long time ago.

Fully agree. I haven't quit specifically because of the patch.

I quit because they clearly care more about pushing the new content and sales rather than actually fixing the core issues and problems with the game.

Great post Lagartha. Was quite a bit of fun banding together to rise against the update.

    Not. Another. Dime.

Probably a month in the best case scenario.... there is too much wrong for them to develop a clear road map quickly. It will be interesting to see the communication changes.

Id warrant the future on the ability to communicate over the coming weeks.

I am the host of the currently 24th coalition, FuryKnights... we are joining in as D3srespected. Our coalition as well as others feel greatly disrespected, we enjoy this game and feel our loyalty is greatly taken for granted. It seems rather than deal with the HUGE issue of cheating/hacking, matches have been made progressively harder, though the latest updates reduced the rewards in events that cheaters can get... it does nothing to help those who should be getting rewards if the cheaters were dealt with. With the addition of the battle logs, it should not be so difficult to identify and ban cheaters.

Many in my coalition spend money on this game, some of my coalition do not. To make it cost even more than it already did for cards is ridiculous, especially in light of how crazy the matches have become for all the reasons others have mentioned.

One huge way to help is rather than create matches based on pw level, weight the cards in the deck, cards such as Olivia which are "game winners" would be 10 points, value other cards based on their effect in the game. Highest deck weight would be 100 and match players within 5 points on deck weight... this would give new players a chance and high level players more challenge.

I do hope something changes... this is a great game I enjoy playing and I would hate to see it go down the road opf so many I have played before who took their player base for granted by not listening.

Any updates on this? It would be nice to see some sort of formal response from the devs.

This isn't just one player whining about a broken card or drop rates, icon_e_confused.gif this is the heart of the game, 100s of players, reaching out, people who have spent months, if not years of our time and money invested in this game, raising our voices in hopes that the company actually cares enough about their customers to reach out and make some well overdue changes.

Please Hibernum/D3GO, hear our outcry and react accordingly. This is your chance to be the better man (or woman) in this situation. Step up and show us that our outcry has not fallen on deaf ears!

Thank you, again, to those players willing to stick your neck out to advocate and help speak up for us. I have the utmost respect for you. ALL of you. manacrystal.png

I think that the original response was that this is the direction of the game; however I don't believe that they thought that the response would be that bad.

There is often updates or news given on Thursday and Friday (guessing that they have meetings on Wednesday or Thursday).

Soooo.. our vague, 'official' response on this is that they're reviewing the rewards in TotP and that's about it, right? Just making sure that I didn't miss anything.

We're anticipating posting today the details of our initial round of reward improvements to Trial of the Planes. We're just working on acquiring and compiling all the information from the development team.

Wasn't the problem with the old system was that under the old system if you partipated on all events and made like top 100 in rankings, you basically earned $600 crystals a week enough to get an advertised walker or a bb. This made thins too comfortable any that was advertised or previewed you could get if you started saving up at that point. There was no urgency to buy crystals if you had enough to be competitive.

The only way this system, could make money was from new players or from a small percentage of players who devote disposable income. For the vast amount of established players the system was just too comfortable.

Yes this kept the players happy but it's not generating income. So their solution was either find ways to get new bloods which was the referral system or create urgency by inflating items so you force people who were comfortable to hoard crystals or you catch people off guard when you drop a walker or deal and they know it will be gone by the time they have saved enough like the mythic packs for 500 crystals that only lasted 3 days.

I can understand the need to make money but unless I'm assured that I will get something valuable by spending real money it's just not worth it with the current prices.

$46AUD for a coloured super pack and 600 crystals is absurd. Especially when that pack can yield no rare. Why not sell a single booster pack of rares. That's something that playing normally can't buy and it feels great getting 5 rares at once for $46

Maybe the group least likely to spend money has less sway over decisions than they thought.

    Just saying.

Weren't you the one who argued that the whales account for most of the apps profit? If that's the case, it would make sense for them to try and get those people to spend their money on the game again.
