    • Damn, those swords are nasty and OP. +8/8? Seriously? I sure hope they don't have more than 2 shields...
    • Ornithopter Roflcopter: The runt of the litter. Would make a nice rare

All in all, I am pretty happy with the set. A few power creepy things like the swords with from beyond... but all in all solid cards without breaking the game.

Honestly, nothing stands out as stronger than Olivia, deploy, pig, etc

    Hi JC,

What about the shield value for the other supports? Can PM me if you prefer to not clog up the thread.

EDIT: also, are these part of AER set? The card list files them under "Masterpiece" set with "Masterpiece" rarity - my initial thought was to file under AER set with Masterpiece rarity.

The swords are ridiculous amount of power creep and I think they are way overpowered (I think more so than even Olivia), especially since there's no targeted support removal in this game!

Unlike a single OP creature that you can remove once and be done with it (until the next time they play it), even if you kill their first creature, this turns the next one (and the next one...) into a monster. Ya, Olivia is big and fast, and she buffs all the next creatures (pretty much what the swords do), but you can kill her once, and things are not so bad.

This is also Frog/Moon proof, since it still sticks around. This really forces the other player to have similar cards to be on a level playing field, which is really rough.

Ye, you can match them away, but sometimes, they're just in hard to get spots.

The only thing that can be done is disable, making White and Blue the only good answers.

I really think these need to be properly playtested (and against decks WITHOUT these cards) instead of the way they are.

And the game really needs some targeted support removal...

On the whole, I think the set is pretty reasonable. I was worried the cards would be a huge set up in power from Mythics but mostly they aren't really.

The swords are somewhat nasty but expensive and delicate. The +8/+8 isn't actually that huge when you consider that they cost roughly the same as an 8/8 creature and don't reinforce like creatures if you cast them multiple times. Also, unlike creatures, they don't work by themselves.

Chrome Mox and Black Vise look powerful but not insanely so. Black vise is interesting because it means anyone can build a direct damage deck if they can either deny mana or force card draws (so really blue mostly).

The set doesn't seem OP to me either. Those cards are really good but that's the point. They won't be easy to get after all.

I really like the masterpieces. I had some concern over balance, but this seems to really hit the sweet spot. There are a few cards I really want, a few that would be nice, and a few that I'm not interested in.

    That's a win.

Yeah these cards look pretty cool without being way too powerful. I'm looking forward to playing with Black Vise. And I like how Lotus Petal was interpreted for this game.

On the other hand, yet more cards released that say "amount" where they should say "number," doubling down on their terrible grammar. I wish the card text in this game didn't make me cringe.

I would take the IWIN PIG FTW LOL over anything in this set. That is the most broken card in this game, it's worse when Koth players spam it.

I wont lie... i fully expected game breaking cards. I am impressed with the outcome in terms of balance. There will always be those who find a way to abuse something, which is to be expected.

I am a little concernes about sword of body and mind. It is the cheapest sword, and it essentially can always guarantee an attacker with the wof token. Comparatively speaking, i feel these two factors can make it a nice play for many people, and a nuisance for those not in possession.

No it's the PQ version of masterpieces icon_razz.gif

They're pretty similar to paper masterpieces actually, rarer, prettier and generally stronger. Of course there are a lot of differences, but there are similarities as well.

Thanks for listing the cards. Some very sweet cards, but damn... those swords are nasty! Cool to see some older MTG cards make their entry in this game. Well done!

A few people seem to be complaining about the swords but no one has mentioned how annoying Platinum Angel is going to be.

Cast your minds back to the amount of hate Undergrowth champion got pre-patch. Yeah. and it's colourless, cheap and an easy target for buffs/evasion. It doesn't have to last the game, just last long enough for you to cast the next one. I'm expecting to see quite a few threads about this in the next month or two.

Other than the Swords (which are silly powerful but easily removed) the rest of the set looks great, Black Vice might give Blue control a little more bite though I doubt it will be fast enough for a competitive deck.

The angel will be powerful especially against colours that dont have removal. Disable seems to be the key there.
But...to be honest I really want that angel for the less than X damage objectives icon_e_wink.gif

The +8/8 is huge if you consider that it costs roughly about the same as a 8/8 creature and can't be explicitly killed. In combination with a lowly soldier from Murder Investigation or any other token generator (take your pick: From Beyond, Graf Harvest, Lili's Oath, Thopter Spy Network, Slayer's Plate, Metallurgic Summonings...) you have a regenerating 9/9+ creature for the price of one.

I would actually consider a +6/+6 pretty fair, as that would allow a "standard" 8/8 creature to take on a single buffed token, but with 8/8 you have *at least* a 9/9 to contend with.

The reason UC caused so many problems is that it was immune to kill spells. You either needed two steps (disable + kill) or to bounce (restricted to blue at the time). In addition, it would damage your creatures. Platinum Angel shows no signs of immunity and will not harm your creatures so it would only be a potential threat if given hexproof and constantly buffed. Seems like a great way to shift tempo but it is not unmanageable. A doubly-reinforced Hixus is a much larger threat.

All colours have access to bounce and removal. You can even cast Haunted Cloak on her to make her the target.
