I've also taken note on recent increase of cascade frequency. Just like drop rate the coefficient value that controls how clumped same colored gems are generated seems to be , in my totally subjective view, tweaked up and down by devs as a way of maybe breaking ties, tipping it more toward luck based competitions. They may be keeping track of how much/less the top of leaderboard is crowded, and carefully controlling by nudging this secret value to moderate the count of full scorers. Not too far from what is actually done, I bet.

Nah it's always been like that. A simple match-3 is made, then the next 3 gems that fall down are the exact same color, then the next 3 are the exact same color, next thing you know it's like 7-8 sets of matches made from a basic 3-swap near the top of the board. It can happen for the player or the AI, but in PVE events with lopsided mana gain the AI benefits much more. In PVP events you also feel it more because it can nullify your objectives in one fell swoop.
