A breakdown of power colors for all characters.

A breakdown of colors for 3* and 4* characters. Notice purple. If you want purple on a high level team, you are forced to use Mags or Spidey. Or possibly BWGS. The only other 3* purples are Daredevil and Loki, but they went on a trip to Nauru and haven't been seen in a tournament in weeks.

Perusing all of this, here are my thoughts:

Human Torch should be Red/Black/Yellow and not Red/Black/Green
The Hood should be Yellow/Purple/Black and not Yellow/Blue/Black

Magneto's strong tiles should match his powers.

The Hood has a AP stealing power, and that should be Purple. There is no Yellow/Purple/Black character, and likely no-one depends on his passive being Blue. The Hood could use a slight buff, so lets give an incentive for collecting purple.
      Dormammu’s Aid - Purple Passive
(PASSIVE) The Dread One is always working in Parker’s life. Each turn there are more than 11 Blue or Purple tiles on the board, steal 1 AP of that color.
      Level Upgrades
Level 2: Requires 10 tiles. Level 3: Also steal Red and Green. Level 4: Requires 9 tiles. If Parker's team has 20 Purple AP, 2 AP is stolen instead of 1 AP. Level 5: Also steal Black and Yellow
    • GSBW should also have her colors changed to match her tile damage or visa versa.

      Looking at the abilities...
Sniper Rifle does fit as a green since goon snipers/assassins use green (assault rifle is also green)
Pistol could arguably be purple since most good pistols are purple. (Thugs use yellow pistol)
      Tactics should be yellow

I really don't care what color abilities are, but I know in most games they try to have a theme for colors. Event the original Puzzle Quest colors had themes. Regardless what color you make an ability the characters match damage should match. It's just poor design to have mismatched abilities and match damage. With 2 color characters they could have a third match damage, but make it a color you anticipate adding a third ability in.

That, my friend, is cream cheese, beloved staple of American Midwest cooking

Although now that I think of it, this is a Marvel forum, is it not? What was I thinking with that pie picture when there was one obvious choice from the beginning! Well, it's fixed now

Why does the AP go from one team to another? The rationale explans the color.
Why does the Hood get the AP? Word gets passed along through his crime syndicate about the goings-on of his enemies. His enemies lose their initiative (lose AP) and the Hood knows what his enemies are going to do and can make plans (he gets the initiative, getting AP).

Why does Widow get AP? She goes behind enemy lines. She obtains valuable intel, sabotages key equipment, etc... The enemies lose their initiative (lose AP) and Widow has key information and/or set into motion a chain of events that coerce the enemy into going in a certain direction ( Widow gains the initiative, gets AP).

So what is the difference? The hood doesn't do a thing. Widow does everything.
      • The 3* needs to have purple reworked because currently Magneto is the only playable 3* that have an AP consuming move, which makes the matchup against OBW extremely bad. If you don't have an outlet for your purple AP, it's just sitting there as fodder for Espionage. Even if you have Spiderman (for purple match), the damage hardly makes up for the devastating effect of Espionage that eventually leads to an AR. Normally you deal with AP stealing moves by spending the AP, but only Magneto can spend purple AP amongst the 3*s. GSBW is a serious liability on defense whose covers are also quite difficult to acquire (she's very rarely in any promotional events or tournament awards), and the other purple AP consuming options are even worse.

Imagine how Gold Moonstone would be actually playable if her purple had the little phrase "and gain control of" in it...

… or if the word "random" was removed.

Relatively simple fixes for the Purple problem. Harder fix, bring in new popular characters with purple.

        1. The Hood becomes Yellow/Purple/Black instead of Yellow/Blue/Black.
        2. Daredevil becomes Purple/Yellow/Red instead of Purple/Blue/Red
        3. Psylocke becomes Red/Purple/Black instead of Red/Blue/Black
        4. Loki gets his Green skill.
        5. Daken

The first is likely the most painless and beneficial. I don't see many people relying on Daredevil, or particularly his blue skill, so changing it to a Yellow skill would give him a unique color set and keep him from competing with Mags.
      • A little off topic but these were mentioned here so I want to put in my two cents, the one disclaimer being these were my initial thoughts on these characters, the new characters that have been added since the game launched have changed the validity of my arguments.
Magneto's strong tiles should match his powers.

This was and in my opinion still is the premier direct damage power (Patch's, Hulk's, and Daredevil's red make my claim slightly weaker of course) so I was ok with not also getting good purple tile damage while gathering ap to unleash it. I would love to get a higher purple value out of him but failing that I'd rather he just have two strong colors. I hate putting him out front for yellow.

She is the 3* glass canon so I always liked that she didn't need to take damage in order to collect green and red. The purple was fair because it leads to green so she should get hit for gathering that. Panther and Fathor don't really weaken that argument so much as just blow it up.

I haven't evaluated it but here's hoping someone has.
How would changing these colors change the meta?

        1) Makes Hood a little better but doesn't give you a "reason" to play him if you wouldn't already. Don't think it'll change the meta.
        2) DD sucks. No change.
        3) Psylocke's blue sucks. No change.
        4) ???
        5) Daken

Mags/Spidey are seen a lot in PvP -- they are the two most powerful characters. If a 3* team covers purple, the only other choices are BWGS, Loki, and Daredevil. These guys don't compare to Mags/Spidey, and thus every rainbow team has them.

Changing Hood Blue->Purple wouldn't harm him, and would allow him to fit into more strong rainbow teams.

The Wikipedia article on Infinity Gems mentions the powers of the gems.
Green - Soul - Allows the user to steal, control, manipulate and alter souls, living or dead, and is the gateway to an idyllic pocket universe.
Orange - Time - Allows the user total control over the past, present and future. Allows time travel, can age and de-age beings.
Purple - Space - Allows the user to exist in any or all locations, move any object anywhere throughout reality and warp or rearrange space.
Blue - Mind -Allows the user to greatly strengthen and enhance mental and psionic power and access the thoughts and dreams of other beings.
Yellow - Reality - Allows the user to fulfill wishes, even if the wish is in direct contradiction with scientific laws.
Red - Power - Accesses all power and energy that ever has or will exist, and can boost the other gems' effects.

Can we please move into an Infinity Gauntlet storyline where we have a 5-star Thanos with six color powers?

Loki is strong in Purple/Green/Black. When he gets a third power, it would likely be green. That with a level cap bump would likely make him more playable.

Lazy Daken has one of the the best "Purple" powers in the game (making red strike tiles on green matches). He'll work well in many teams.

Hey gamar, I think you might need a hobby outside of MPQ. Maybe decoupage?

Yeah, but his purple ain't great and his black is really expensive - extra HP won't help him, so it depends on if his hypothetical green is good or not

Daken is Daken, and a 3* version will be a complete beast

Personally, I feel that assigning specific types of abilities to each colour would be overly restrictive for a relatively simple game like MPQ and I would rather it not happen. Just look at the amount of characters needing red we have just from red being type-casted as an offensive colour and imagine actually cementing it's status. I would prefer the devs getting the freedom to mix up the colours and effects more and just give us some information on why this character/ability is this colour.

Necroing this thread to voice a thought I've been having since everyone saw Sentry and sighed "another R/Y/G character!?"

I agree with eclypse that having a colour pie for MPQ has become restrictive. Why? Because this is a game focused around Superheroes. And what are Superheroes best known for; cool gadgets, dying & being resurrected, angst, but primarily it's letting go and beating the Ever-Loving Thing out of each other until one of them runs away, gets arrested, or has their turn being "dead". So you've got a cast of characters where the majority rely on violence to solve problems ... no wonder the "damage" colours (Red,Green,Yellow & Black to an extent) are crowded.

My suggestion: release the Colour Pie and give a bit more variety otherwise we'll keep seeing the same colour combos over and over.
