Actually there's another (marginal) reason to partially level a character; ability damage scales separately from levels, so it is possible to get, for example, level 188 damage from a 4* at only level 187 and a half. So you've saved like 700 iso. I guess it's a thing?

(Levels for illustrative purposes only, I have no idea if that happens between 187 and 188. I do know it happens, however, I've tested it. The 3 abilities on some characters even bump at different times, and differently between characters. Some parts of this game are really strange. Go away, Steven.)
