How much is that Mythic bundle worth to you?

Personally, seeing Gisela for $30 on PQ is a kick in the stomach. As is almost every "bundle" of this nature. I could go out and buy 3 copies of the actual card for $10 each, and have something tangible that will retain some value.
What would I spend on the PQ card - $5... The same discretionary allotment that I'd spend on a Mocha from Starbucks. At least the Mocha tastes better. Whereas $30 on a few dupes and a mediocre Mythic is more likely to give me indigestion.

I think 99 cents to $2.99 would be reasonable for specific rares, $2.99 to $4.99 for specific Mythics (though I could see them charging $9.99 and still seeming somewhat reasonable). Maybe $29.99 to $49.99 for a complete large expansion set (Every card in Origins, Battle for Zendikar, or Shadows over Innistrad), and half as much for a complete small set (Oath of the Gatewatch, Eldritch Moon).
However, that doesn't seem to be the financial direction the Powers That Be want to take the game. The focus is more on getting a few people to spend hundreds of dollars than getting a bunch of people to spend $10 to $20.0 -
I may be wrong but i believe they could make much more money with micro transactions than these over priced offers. The only money i have spent on this game was for Olivia and that was out of fear as much as any other reason. I would have spent hundreds if not in the thousand range by now if these mythic bundles were in the $5-$10 range. I have never even entertained the idea of buying crystals, $100 for 3 big boxes and a fat pack? I earn all my big boxes the hard way... grinding them out and the contents are rarely worth the time spent.0

It was a kick in the pants for me as well. I only have spent money on Gideon for the 15, and two Starter packs for 7.99. but compared to what I have spent on other games is quite low. I am done spending money with the game in this state of disrepair and with overpriced iap. Which is sad because I really am enjoying this game alot.0

You can't really fault them for that. It's the tried and tested method, and research has been done on it.
At least they aren't nasty about it, and everyone eventually gets the chance to loot the cards.0 -

My research indicates that mobile versions of other Hasbro games cost:
Monopoly - $4.99
Scrabble - $9.99
Battleship - free
Milles Bornes $4.99
Stratego $6.990 -

I'm envisioning you making that argument to a trading card store owner demanding to get 4 copies of every card in an expansion for the price of monopoly board game.
The debate on one time cost games vs freemium games was settled years ago. Freemium beats the traditional model soundly by orders of magnitude.
And data to support that companies make more targeting whales with bigger packages that cost much more is easily available.

I'm not saying it's a good trend to go towards, or that it's great for gamers. I hate it too because it's priced out of my comfort level. I'm saying it works, and you won't be able to convince a company to act against it's own interests.
The game isn't pay2win yet. Anyone who says so has never played a real pay2win game. If you're like me and think the mythic is overpriced, we are not the targeted customers. We're the product. Just be glad that there are indeed people out there willing to pay to support our habit of playing this game.
Bottom line is despite what everyone claims, it is demonstrably untrue that the company will make more if they lower the prices. Freemium games with high prices are the dominant strategy for a reason, and it's not because developers hate money.0 -
It might be a little overpriced, but as with all the other stuff I bought in game, I wanted it so I bought it.0

thanks for sharing the link for the statistics.
and I do agree with your conclusion.
I am not a whale either. I started out as a f2p player when the game launched. I actually did quite well and could challenge TOP 5 spots in platinum even without paying a single cent.
still, I thought I would support Hiberium, seeing how much I enjoyed mtgPQ and their previous initially no iap game Puzzle Quest 2.
I bought 212sgd worth of crystals during the Aug/Sep sale for my alternate acct to buy pw.
the only other purchase was last week for Emrakul for 46sgd.0 -
The Mythics are overpriced but, what can I do? I don't have time to build a library for free, and it costs more money to throw at the RNG.
Honestly, I like buying the exclusives to throw in my decks for events. Just to add some spice to the Meta. It really is just for fun and entertainment. I don't really win more than the progression rewards, maybe a handful of crystals (although with the current Nodes of Power, I'm noticing a much larger gap between myself and the top of the leaderboard). I'm also not an experienced deck builder, so I need a bit of an edge in order to at least "pretend" to compete with my peers.
I'm back working overtime every day, in which case I just value my purchases by hours worked. I will agree though, that when things are overpriced, even though I opt to shell it out, it doesn't mean I agree with it. That type of lingering discontent, if allowed to persist, results in moving to another game and dumping cash there instead of here.0 -
The powers that be (i like that) obviously love the idea that money buys you power..
Nahiri is gonna have a good deck with this + Olivia0 -
The model works, they make money. Never going to change. Like any system based on greed.
This is like a game of football where any team has the option to purchase a ball that kicks itself into the net, for a few hundred million pounds. Of course most teams can't afford this miracle ball, but the few who can make the league a massive profit.
That's what Olivia is, and why I don't buy mythic bundles. Feels like a showdown at high noon where my opponent has a single shot boot pistol and I'm packing an AR-15 with AP ammo and wearing a Kevlar bodysuit. I only enjoy the domination factor if I feel like my opponent has the same chance, there's just no satisfaction from winning with OP mythics.
If you want them, buy them. But I just want certain people to be aware that winning every game every time because of one or two cards is no accomplishment at all.
The comic geeks will understand. Flash doesn't run marathons for trophies.0 -

"I think I'll make a Lily2 Eldrazi deck. Guess Ill start with... Olivia."
"Time to make a cool new zombie deck... but I can't leave out Olivia."
"Ajani + Starfield ÷ Hixus ∝ Sigil of the Empty = Olivia!"
Too much of a good thing, I guess.0 -
I am an established whale. But this is one mythic bundle I will pass on. Perhaps if it was not a bundle, and just the card alone, I would pick it up. But the 'extras' in the bundle are of no use to me. And the card is not a game changer for my deck. It may well have better value for newer players with more limited decks.0

It all depends on how much you like winning. You have a clear advantage if you have bombs that you competition is not expecting or do not have. I bought the meld combo yesterday and if you do not kill the turn they meld its a board wipeing, lifelinking game winner. So i dont mind having to spend a little money to win.
We all know its pay to play if you are serious.0 -

In addition to winning, it's winning with the latest tech.
I can easily set up some boring lantern scout / serene steward / lone rider pump deck but... it's been done before. And quite frankly, as others are including the newest cards in their deck, the meta changes and the old decks are just plain dull.
I find it a lot more entertaining to pick up the latest cards, and try and build something a little more up to date.0 -
Remember, it's not about power creep: It's about giving the player options. So now, you have the option of running Gisela, or War Oracle. Which one will YOU choose?0

A hearty chuckle to the folks who are tossing around "pleasures of deckbuilding" as a reason to spend twenty to thirty bucks on this nonsense.
Y'all are kidding yourselves. You like being able to pay to win, you can just say it.0
