Discussion: Increasing number of covers
I come to you friendly folks as one who just received their 9th green hulk cover and about to get another from daily rewards tomorrow with a 5/0/0 hulk.
But enough about my feel bad story's. On to today's topic for discussion.
As we all know as characters are being added to the game there is a smaller and smaller chance to open any specific cover outside of specific events. Take Grey Suit Black Widow for instance, exceedingly rare.
I understand that the cover system was revamped once before in the before time, long, long ago. What if it were to be changed again? Instead of receiving a Ares yellow Sunder cover, you received an Ares cover you could apply to any one of this three skills.
Just take a minute before you condemn me and think about it. Ok now you can condemn me.
Obviously rewards would need to be changed to x2 and x3 covers at the higher tiers. Some rare gems like Hood yellow would be less rare. Progression awards like Thor permanent red could be applied to other Thor skills.
Downside is that there is far less incentive for people to buy skills, if that person can ever unlock those skills in the first place. Curse you hulk covers.

I like it but it would hurt their system of making people acquire a specific color before making it upgradable.0

The downside is that right now, playing is the only way to win a "new" cover. By extinguishing that, a player could theoretically get a max roster without ever playing a game.0 -
There is a definite issue building here. Since there is a necessary threshold of covers under which any given character is (more or less) unplayable, characters and especially 3* characters cannot be released indefinitely without some measures taken to ensure coverage for upcoming players.
I think one of the easiest solutions would be to add in that new permanent PVE content everyone sure wishes they would make exist, and pepper it with useful starting 3* covers the same way the current prologue is filled with 2* characters. Putting in a few HP rewards would also take the sting out of the increasing cost of roster slots as players build their stables.
Don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily dislike the idea of omni-colored covers. I'm just not convinced that that momentous of a change in gameplay is still forthcoming.0 -
I think it would fit the design of the game better to have covers with a single color but selectable between 2 or 3 characters.
For example, black Hulk/Panther. The cover is used when you upgrade one or the other.0 -

Because that would make the game completely p2w with not that big investment and ruin it for quite everyone? They do strip-mining IMO but know as much that it would be a final blow.0 -
I wouldn't mind a rainbow cover being added on top of the other colours, but not replacing them. Just make them a bit more rare.0

It is a problem. I pulled a 3* cover from a Heroic token the other day, and it was GSBW's green, which I already have maxed, instead of a cover I actually need.
A rainbow cover in addition to the other covers would be a good move, I think. I was also thinking that they might be able to do something with Alliances. Maybe not a straight trade where I could have just given that GSBW green cover to someone in my alliance, but where I could put the cover into some sort of pool and then others in the alliance could purchase that cover for a few hundred HP (about the cost of a token).0 -

A multi color cover as a rare addition on top of the already existing colors would be pretty frkn sweet.0 -

Ask yourself a simple question. Can you monetize this? Sell wildcard covers for 2500 HP.0 -

Wouldn't really work to monetize it as a direct purchase. 2500hp for any cover where as right now I could just buy any 2 I already have. This would just be something tossed I to the regular card packs. For example, everything works exactly as it does now except after the game has decided, ok you just got a green BWGS, before you receive your reward it goes through a 2nd chance process where it has 5% chance to be turned into a *wildcard as you dubbed it. A bonus to make packs a little better is all.0 -
What about placeholders?
Any covers above the 5 (but below 13) would let you add iso and levels to a character as normal, but you would have to find the correct covers to level powers0 -
I believe any covers you have over 5 already let you add to their iso instead
100/250/500 etc
but on a less sarcastic note, a 'rainbow' cover as a top prize or top 5 prize would be a great addition to variety for these seemingly repetitive rewards
I have many characters I've had 6/7/8 of one color and not even 3 of another. But would this make the collection game too easy?0 -

With adding them to packs like I suggested I don't think it would speed up roster completion as drastically as you would think. For me, I need blue mags, black hulk, green BWGS. I 1st have to manage to even pull 1 and then it's only a 5% chance it wild cards. Most of the time your gonna get wildcard draws on your 2* pulls since they are a lot more frequent. If it was also like this in standard packs we could easily add 3-5 new 1* covers and with wild cards hitting in standards beginners would still have a good chance to progress.0 -
What would you guys think about replacing the reward slot with all three powers with just one rainbow, below that only one cover of a specific color0

You are taking a HUGE downgrade.
You WERE getting all 3 covers. IE a 3/3/3 can be made a 4/4/4. A 5/3/3 could be made a 5/4/4.
Now you are getting 1 cover. A 3/3/3 can be made a 3/3/4 and a 5/3/3 can be made a 5/4/4.
There are 0 situations where this benefits.0 -
An idea I've had rattling around in my head is to let the player pay Hero Points to change the colour of a cover that they have in hand. Maybe 50 HP for a 1*, 200 HP for a 2*, 600 HP for a 3* and 1200 HP for a 4*.
For example, you just pulled a Spiderman purple, but you already have it maxed? Pay 600 HP to change it to an elusive blue cover.
I think this would be a decent solution. It doesn't break the system since the player still needs to acquire a cover of the specific character, the devs still get paid, and the player gets what they want for a price.0 -

Other than people screaming for pay2win it doesn't sound out if the question. Devs win players win. It's a possibility.0 -

Sorry you are right, and i kind of forget what the point i was trying to make there at all
Oh right. keep the top reward at one of each color, middle reward one rainbow, and bottom one of a specific color0 -

No more than the game already is. This solution doesn't give the you the ISO to level the character, it just gives you a higher chance to level specific abilities in a game where getting specific covers is becoming increasingly harder.0 -

That makes much more sense. Especially on the 2* tier rewards where they only been giving 1 cover.
101-200 gets 3x 2* all colors.
201-300 gets a wildcard 2*
301-400 gets 1 cover. 1 color.0
