Battle for Zendikar rotating out?

I see that purchases for Battle for Zendikar say 13 days left. Does this mean that we will not be able to buy these and no more random cards of this set from free boosters? Not fair for people who haven't had the opportunity to get many of the cards...

I hope there are going to be times where they bring the set back into the vault afterwards... 'cause I'm still missing several key cards from that set (namely Nissa's Renewal which I've been wanting since BoZ dropped!)...

Forget the overpowered mythics, I'm still trying to get Grip of Desolation.

I really hope they won't rotate the cards out too. If that happens then I spent a bucket load of money early this summer for nothing. That would actually be the last time I spent money on the game...

This thing was obviously not important enough to be listed in the release notes...

    I was still missing a common icon_e_sad.gif
  • I want 3 cards from it. Veteran Warleader, Drowner of Hope and From Beyond. And only the Warleader is actually important from me.
Would nice if the devs tell us things like that. I want some official info. Why is it rotating out. Will there be any way to get cards from this block after that and things like that.

To me it seems it's just to put pressure on people to spend their crystals. If you don't spend them now (to either get your pw's or card packs) they might be gone soon. I'm honestly not liking this pushy direction the game takes. Then again i haven't spend a lot on the game, but the more emphasis is put on using crystals fast, the less i like the game, to me it's the epitome of what's wrong with freemium games icon_e_sad.gif

My reaction isn't to spend my crystals, it's looking for another game, even though i really really like the combo of mtg and match 3, i can honestly say to me it seems pure brilliance. This game would be a keeper if i just felt i could keep playing the game with the latest features (better, just near latest, let the ones that fund the game get the latest and greatest). But these features (newer pw's, newer cards) are now taken away from a player that progresses slowly like me.

There are 2 rares I really want from BFZ. What's frustrating for me is both of these were offered for real money at one point, but of course I only started spending money in the game after they were offered. Now with BFZ getting phased out, I feel like these rares are going to be very hard to get. These kind of unannounced changes being made is seriously having me contemplate walking away before I'm tempted to spend any more money.

Also, if sets are rotating out that makes origin pack worth much more cause those cards will never(probably) be out.

Due to the special abilities/gimmicks of all the new sets, I don't they will ever rotate out Origin. This is the only set that doesn't rely on gimmicks. If they did, new people joining the game would be in a very bad place.

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Why?????

**** man... Don't u realize at the end of the day this game is all about slowly collecting all the desired cards??????? Why would I spend any more money if there is just no way to accomplish that at a reasonable price?????????

    Nothing would surprise me today.

I wouldn't assume it's going, tho. I expect they want you to think that availability is limited so you'll buy more. I very much doubt we'll get an official statement about this for some time, in order to deliberately increase the uncertainty.

Incidentally, if anyone objects to the relentlessly negative tone of the player base at the moment, remember you don't have to play this game... go and find one with a player base you like, instead.

I think the sunk cost fallacy is what's making a lot of disgruntled players/whales willing to put up with these questionable changes.

Sorry to say that but: This!

I'm absolutely shaken by these news. I really felt like this was the game i was looking for for a very long time, where i can push the action a little bit by spending some money, whenever i feel like, but also progress smoothly without spending a lot.

I really really hope they consider stepping away from this "rotation system" again and make all sets available at any time.

So far i never felt "pushed" by the time limited offers for crystals or cheaper booster packs. I fully understand that these are an element of modern day mobile games, but putting a time limit on some discount offers and making a whole card set unavailable are two completely different things.

I've almost collected the next 600 and was excited to spend it on my first SoI big box. But now? Shouldn't i rather spend it on a BFZ box once more since these won't be available anymore in a few days? But then again i'd like to crack some fresh SoI booster... Feels like doing it half wrong however i decide. Not a fun way to spend my crystals (/money).

Also a little disappointed that there are no goodies for buying a big box this time, like the extra booster in BFZ. Not a big deal but takes some extra motivation to spend a bit more. Guess it wouldn't cost the developers a lot since few people will buy a big box and a single booster for compensation.

Would also like more and sooner news about upcoming and ending offers, so players could plan on a good investment a little bit. It would make spending the money feel like a lot more fun. Thinking about the "blue bfz fat pack" offer i saw, which i was not very interested in at this time, because i was tweaking my Nissa and then i saw change it to a "green bfz fat pack" offer the other day, just after i had spent my (real) money on a big box.

So some minor things could be improved for sure but are not really a big deal which would influence my motivation to play in any way. But i'm taking this set rotation thing not just as a time limiting offer but as a signal for a way the developers have decided to go, which sadly makes me rethink if i may have been wrong with my assumption that this was finally the game that is worth spending my money on while looking on the expected long-term value of my investment.

Rob443, that was a very well written response. I feel the exact same way you do. I have recently spent a large amount of money on this game. After this update has dropped, I don't want to buy the new PW or anything else. It is so frustrating, because like you said, I too thought this was the game I've been looking for.
  • It seems almost certain that sets will rotate out of the vault regularly. If they are going to rotate out in some fashion with respect to gameplay, here is what I hope that would look like:

    * "Free" boosters always pull from all possible sets.
    * "Quick Battles" always remain an "anything goes" format
    * The only block-limited games will be Events, and hopefully not all of them will be block-limited.

Something like that would be ok with me. Not my preferred situation, but something that balances the economic drives of the game company and the fun-quotient for the players.

If cards that "rotate out" literally become unusable in the game, then that will be a huge turn-off. I don't want to have to chase rotations in this game the way I used to when I played paper magic (note to devs: that's why I got out of paper magic).

Sets rotating out is the standard answer to power creep. It was a matter of time before MtgPQ implemented it in some way

Perhaps, but what's odd about this is that unless they start mining older MtG sets for material, they'll be out of steam after they adapt Eldritch Moon. Unlike Marvel Puzzle Quest, they can't just cherry-pick individual cards/characters to add to the game.

So it seems like either they backpedal and start adapting older sets like the Tarkir block, or they keep sets in rotation longer in order to ensure card pool diversity. Although it looks like Origins is a 'core' set, so they might just be banking on that, Hearthstone-style. Who knows.

My thoughts, too, keep origins as core and rotate out sets as new ones are implemented and released

I'm expecting the timer just means that the bonus OGW cards will disappear after the timer is over and it becomes 1x/4x/14x like both Origins and SoI. The developers mentioned before that the bonus OGW cards would be a limited time offer.
