My two best PWs are Ajani and Chandra, and I've just been bashing my head against this challenge for the past hour.

Has anything worked for you all?

I just beat Kozilek with a low budget (relatively).

Koth of the Hammer (Only level 56)

Mythic - Akoum Firebird (I got it this weekend from the free packs)
    Rare - Scab-Clan Berserker
Rare - Exquisite Firecraft (was great for taking out his lifelink vampire dude)
Rare - Pia and Kiran Nalaar
    Uncommon - Iroas's Champion
    Uncommon - Brawler's Plate
Uncommon - Call of the Full Moon
    Uncommon - Ulamog's Despoiler
    Common - Sure Strike
    Common - Sandstone Bridge

The hardest part for me was having the patience to wait for Koth's ultimate. It is the 10 strength support that every time you combine red gems all your creatures get +3/+3

I got Iroas's Champion out at 8/8 with a few lucky red combines in the second turn. Then I managed to life a few turns while he kept on getting just supports. Eventually I was able to get Pia and Kiran Nalaar out for help. By the tenth turn my Iroas's was like 40/40 and double striking. My Pia was 24/24 and the thopter was like 20/20. I don't think he did a single point of damage to me.

I beat it with Kiora, but it took some doing. I don't have the exact decklist, but it involved Thopter Spy Network and From Beyond to automatically spawn tokens, Brawler's Plate to give my stuff berserker, Herald of the Pantheon and Nissa's Revelation to gain life , and Mantle of Webs to give my biggest beater Reach.

Two of the problematic cards in the deck are the guy that gives everything Hexproof and the guy that destroys a support when he enters the battlefield. Between the two, the Hexproof guy is more problematic. The support destroying guy can be defeated by having a large number of supports. Don't reinforce a key support like Thopter Spy Network or From Beyond. Keep those powered up in your hand until the one on the board is destroyed.

I tried a lot of different things so I'm not sure what ultimately worked. Displacement Wave will return everything to hand, including the hexproof creatures, but I don't think that was in the final list.

I just beat him with my Gideon Z. Level 60 but a low cost deck, with no Mythic and no important Rares.

Basically I spam his second level ability (spawns an 8/8 for 9 loyalty) combined with Beserker Plate and Knigtly Vigilance.

The key was using Enshrouding Mist on my buffed creatures with Vigilance. Let the opponent smash themselves to pieces on an invincible defender.

Also helpful, Murder Investigation plus Hedron Blade.

Other than that, I just include cards for mana ramp and for extra draws to ensure I have bodies on the field.

I managed to beat him with a level 40 Kiora using this:

    Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper
    Managorger Hydra

    Talent of the Telepath
    Day's Undoing
    Coastal Discovery
    Disperse
    Crush of Tentacles
    Rush of Ice
    Anchor to the Aether

    Fertile Thicket

It was pretty touch and go. He got me down to 12 before I stabilized with a Crush of Tentacles, followed shortly thereafter by summoning a pair of other Octopi through From the Depths. That plus the bounce/disable/Day's Undoing allowed me to bring him down all the way from that point.

Anyone got the 2nd achievement on kozilek?

I am after it and wow!
With no spells how can you survive the initial beating and develop a board?
Also even if you do the damn tentacles can reset the board and put a 16/16 in play...

This is a real challange icon_cool.gif

Nicely done. I'm very jealous of your Thopters.

They could make so much money if they'd just let me buy cards. =p

I also had to use Kiora in order to beat the last boss. She is Lvl 55 and I used the Crush of Tentacles along with her ability "From the Depths" I also used Evolutionary leap, Mantle of webs, and Turn to frog as they were key cards to keep Kozilek's baddies at bay until I could generate enuf loyalty for her last ability.

That's what Wizards of the Coast counts on to keep the lights on and food in their bellies. =P

Least D3 bundles limited time rare/mythics with runes and crystals for $15-30 a pop. But being as broke as I am, I cannot indulge those prices.

Having a card purchase or trade system would be cool. Can you imagine people stocking up on extra Rares/Mythics, opting to convert them over for runes they don't need? Why not adjust that to where there could be a crystal conversion too? I bet offering to convert a Mythic over for, say, 100-200 crystals means someone could be able to get a Fat Pack, easily, or be closer to a Big Box buy. And since a game like this only depends on just getting a single drop of each card to have them for deck use, having all those dupes in collections doesn't really serve much purpose. Otherwise, why not offer players the option to trade for extra Rares/Mythics that other players have?

I beat it with a level 55 Kiora deck:

    Creatures:
Zendikar Incarnate: With first strike and reach it kills off all the threats. (till it gets removed by those dirty octopuses)
Gaea's Revenge: big and hex proof. Pump it up with reinforce and Retreat to Kazandu. With first strike and reach it kills off all the threats. I didn't get a single instance of this during the game, though, so practically was not necessary to have it.
Harbinger of the Tides: to bounce back the bad guys
Plated Crusher: big and hex-proof. Pump it up with reinforce and Retreat to Kazandu. With first strike and reach it kills off all the threats.

    Supports:
Nissa's Pilgrimage: for faster mana gain
Retreat to Kazandu: for pumping up creatures and do some healing
Fertile Thicket: for faster mana gain

    Spells:
Helm of the Gods: for giving first strike to my fatties. Very important!
Mantle of Webs: for giving reach to my fatties. Also very important!
Plummet: useful for cheap killing all those big creatures with fly (costs only 4 mana).

This is 2 mythics, 2 rares, 2 uncommons and 4 commons.

I was also very close to winning with Gideon (level 50):

    Creatures:
    Consul's Lieutenant
    Veteran Warleader

    Supports:
    Knigthly Valor
    Suppression Bonds
    Murder Investigation
    Hedron Blade
    Retreat to Emeria

    Spells:
    Unified Front
    Smite the Monstrous
    Helm of the Gods

    0 Mythic, 3 rares, 4 uncommons, 3 commons.
Here the idea was to build up big creatures with first strike and vigilance.
Murder Investigation and Knightly Valor makes it sure you always have some defenders to block attacks.

    Finally beat it with Ajani.

    Exquisite firecraft
Smash to smithereens (you think playing since day 3 would finally get you a demolish, but such thoughts are false)
    Swift reckoning
    Smite the monstrous

    Akoum firebird
    Embermaw hellion
    Abbot of Keral keep
    Mina and Denn, wild born

    Sword of the animist
    Brawlers plate

Nothing fancy. Got some early cascades to fall in my favor (3rd ability helped with this sometimes), got my big beatsticks out, used spells to clear all his beatsticks, and finagled my way into getting berserker onto firebird to take out the Sphinx when he played it.

Managed to beat it with Ob Nixilis because he is the only planeswalker that doesn't give me the "Something went wrong..." error. Bunch of the bigger Eldrazi, Brawler's plate and all the best removal I had access to got me there.

I just managed to down Kozilek with an Eldrazi heavy Koth deck. It was a very close call though, literally came down to 10 HP! Was worth it in the end, all 7 retries with numerous different planeswalkers/strats. Especially after opening the packs from the event - happened to FINALLY get Drana from a Zendikar 5 pack! icon_e_biggrin.gif

Got him with first gen Gideon, oddly enough.

Pumping Iroas' champion with some lucky cascades was all she wrote.

    Iroas' Champion
    War Oracle
    Consul's Lieutenant
    Knight of the White Orchid

    Gideon's reproach
    Throwing knife
    Prairie stream
    Canopy vista

    Smite the monstrous
    Enshrouding mist

Not bad for only three rares (didn't even get the knight on the board until the last turn, STILL ended with 104 health)

First reproach torched his second turn Sphinx, LMAO.

Same here. - Iroas plus enshrouding mist at key moments meant invertor of truth never got a chance to match all the gems. Ended with 104 life and a 14/14 Iroa - survived a tentacles by saving a fully charged smite and Iroa for after

Glad some of you get to actually experience this event, for the few of us that are **** because they didn't really test this and released it on a damn holiday weekend means we get **** on getting anything out of this.

I beat it with a Koth Eldrazi deck that came down to the wire.

We were both in single digits, he had lethal next turn-- and then Inverter of Truth's ability killed Kozilek at the beginning of his turn, and I won.

Then got the very Mythic as a reward that lost my opponent the game.

    Delicious irony, indeed.

I beat Kozilek on my phone with a mash-up of black decks I've seen posted on these boards. Some of these cards I didn't even know what they did or that I had them.

    Ob Nixilis

    Unholy Hunger

    Grip of Desolation

    Brawler's Plate

    Bone Splinters

    Dark Petition

    Drana, Liberator of Malakir

    Fathom Feeder

    Gruesome Slaughter

Languish (does get around hexproof and will kill that hexproof guy if he's not buffed)

Ulamog's Despoiler (wait until there are at least 2 void gems on board before casting)

I hobbled out with 8 life. Partially because I didn't notice that my 18-loyalty gem had been destroyed. But I did make it out alive.

I had pulled a Mirrorpool out of a big box I had opened earlier and would probably replace Gruesome Slaughter with it.
