Just gave it my first try, and holy cow. It looks completely unbeatable. Seems like every card played is a mythic. The board is constantly set up with void gems and gems of his color. I lost in like 5 turns. I can't imagine how you'd beat this level. I had my luckiest game ever and got him "down" to 106 hp. My guess is Black is about the only color that has a chance.

Edit:

Ability: (This costs him ZERO to do - he does it every turn)
Convert all Void gems to Black gems, then ingest every gem of your opponent's color.

Creatures

Wasteland Strangler (Mythic)
Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim (only a Rare)
Drana, Liberator of Malakir (Mythic)
Kalitas Traitor of Ghet (Mythic)
Sire of Stagnation (Mythic)
Oblivion Sower (Mythic)

Support

Mirrorpool (Mythic)

    Play a black deck.
  • I just tried 3 times with the best black deck I can muster. Not even close. When playing black, he doesn't convert to black, so you're left with a bunch of colorless and off-color mana. I got crushed worse than with my green deck.

I beat it with my Kiora deck the first attempt I started at full health (2nd overall). Worldbreaker (the next guy) was even scarier - playing multiple Eldrazi Titans a turn. I lost my first attempt, and am about to go again. Edit: Won the third attempt, he didn't really go off that much this time. Mostly played a few worldbreakers and was crushed beneath my octopii.

    Natural Connection
    Talent of the Telepath
    Day's Undoing
Turn to Frog (main flex slot)

    Fertile Thicket
    Yavimaya Coast
    Nissa's Pilgrimage
Prism Array (triggers constantly on both these fights)

    Herald of the Pantheon
    Harbinger of the Tides

Just wait until you face the next opponent... This one I was able to defeat with Gideon, Battle-Forged and first strike creatures which I made more powerful with his abilities. It was part luck with a good first hand and board. Then just a long game as I killed each of his creatures as they appeared and slowly took down his health.

Yeah, I beat Inverter with Ally Gideon thanks to Lantern Scout, Ability 2 and Enshrouding Mist... but I have no idea how the heck I'm going to beat Worldbreaker. My Eldrazi Koth deck can put up a good fight for a while thanks to Reshape the Land, but the problem is that once Worldbreaker puts supports down, it gains in insane amount of ramp. I saw it pull off 4+ cascades for three turns in a row, on top of all the Support mana boosts.

I feel very, very sorry for any new players who are trying to beat this thing. Holy ****.

My Nissa UC deck might stand a chance, but I doubt post-nerf Ajani could put up much of a fight without constant disabling.

The worst part is, I assume Chapter 2 is even harder. And the Mythic at the end of it all isn't even that good!

Addendum: Worldbreaker has over 300 health, and runs Bring to Light and Nissa's Renewal.

I don't think I'll even ever have enough time to beat this jerk in one sitting, even if I do come up with a strong enough deck for it. Oh my god.

I haven't begun these yet, but it's going to be disappointing if their idea of challenge events is "throw overpowered enemies and make the players pray they get lucky." Hopefully they aren't balancing them against everyone having ridiculous numbers of rares and mythics themselves.

It'd more disappointing if the levels were all easy throwaways that we could blow through without thinking about editing decks to deal with what we were playing against.

There are several rewards you can get besides the final one for beating everything.

True, but there's a pretty wide gulf between "pushover" and "300+ health Titan running almost all top-tier Mythics, including Nissa's Renewal, Bring to Light and Ulamog".

I've started collecting the info for all the battles here.

If people could post in that thread what cards they've seen in each battle as well as the prizes they've gotten for the objectives I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm 0 for 2 but will reserve judgement until i make more attempts. Seems broken on initial review but I've gotten use to winning at least 85% of the time which is stupid broken in its own right. Lol. Back in the day when i played magic against my pals, my beating them 85% of the time would have resulted in either everybody quitting or me being banned. Just feels different when facing the machine.

I was testing out World Breaker battle with Kiora to see what all is in there, the AI got me down to 8 HP with 2 big creatures on his side and nothing on my side with him in the high 200's. I used her ultimate for the second time that game and ended up winning! I thought for sure I was dead.

Was it Deepfathom Skulker? I got a red OGW rare, so it might give a random OGW rare, which would be boss.

Yeah, those last two challenges were unexpectedly tough! I had to pull out the ol' greenwarden of murasa and two reach creatures setup. Even then, the drana almost beat me, but luckily scour from existence was in my deck.

I don't know how they tested the difficulty in this event, but IoT seems pretty rough. My basic PW:s (all I got) are lvl 30, with about a month of playtime behind me (two fatpacks with crystals and 21 day pack).. No all-mythics or really good combos to answer IoT:s barrage of op cards. Well, couple of tries don't really tell much about my chances... :-p

Edit: Got through with lvl 31 Liliana and Hangarback, Graveblade, Painful Truths, Dark Petition and Fertile Thicket (I cast one Scour from Existence). Basically, I ditched all other cards from my hand.

Even if you don't win everything, you can get a ridiculous number of crystals and open a pretty decent number of cards just by participating and beating most of the lower levels. I like it much better than the PvP mode, where you face the same basic decks with the same basic cards all the time, and where you can slog for hours a day for 2 or 3 days and wind up with like 10 crystals and an uncommon.

Killed me a bunch then i changed a few things in my green garruk deck and destroyed him after my second try. Definitely need a creature with reach and first strike and scour from existence for the unblockable drana... Killed the breaker of worlds first try. The inverter though is just ridiculous though, especially if you've only just started playing.

My standard Chandra QB deck beat both the inverter of truth and the next level on the first try. Once Iroa's champion was on board with the hellion backing it most of the stuff that came down could be cleared immediately. Having Chandra's first ability back at 3 helps quite a bit because all the black made cascades plentiful. I imagine these are really tough if you aren't max leveld. Also it was clear that there could be some serious ugliness if the AI got certain combos.
