It only affects iPhone 4 and it was a result of one of the updates in iOS 7.1 in particular. We've got a fix in the pipe so it's really just a matter of it hitting approvals there. Unfortunately, once it's there it's kind of a black box so we don't have a date.

I wonder how long it usually takes to get approval for these sorts of updates. From my understanding, this game is pretty successful on the iOS platform, so you would think the developers would be given a bit of priority in their review request.

Would be nice if this issue was fixed. It's been over a week now. We missed out on the end of the hulk event, the 2 other events where the new Thor could have been won and whatever else is going on. Hopefully they get it done soon. Bleh!

And now a friend who also plays(on android) is telling me im missing out on a new captain america too. Wth.
  • I just logged into my Facebook account for the first time in like 6 months to see if the MPQ FB page had any info (man, the things i'm willing to do to play this darn game again icon_rolleyes.gif ). Someone posted the below on their wall a few hours ago.
I got this reply from Demiurge Studios regarding the iPhone iOS 7.1 issue:

"The fix has been in with apple forever. Just waiting for them to approve it."

If the fix is waiting on Apple to get all of the red tape sorted out on their end, we may be waiting here for a while longer... icon_neutral.gif

Yeah, it's rather frustrating to say the least. I wonder how long Apple usually takes for such things.
  • For one of the other games I play I believe apples approval time is generally around 5-7 days. Of course if the update is not approved, the it's gotta get resolved and start approval process all over again. It's probably easier of them no to make promises about when this will be available vs saying "Friday" and it doesn't happen.

Don't even bother creating a ticket. Every response I get it totally automated. They clearly don't read what you've written, don't offer suggestion to fix either. Very robotic. How can I log into the game to get you X information when my problem is I can't get into the game icon_rolleyes.gif
  • Wow just updated my phone. Wish i read this first.

    Guess i'll just wait.

    This sucks
  • you will be waiting a very long time
  • It's been weeks.
I've payed to play, when are you going to fix it?
Seriously you're losing money by having it broken.

Well the problem is they're waiting for Apple to get back to them. Personally I don't know how long it usually takes, but I certainly hope that the developers are really hounding Apple to hurry up. At this point I'm starting to feel its time for me to just consider the money I put into this game a wash and move to something new to enjoy, and I've only been without the game a week. I imagine those that have been without it longer are even more frustrated.
Even if its not the developer's fault, and that they might be left in the dark with the rest of us, it's hard to remain motivated to come back to a competitive game when you lose out on weeks of progress (and potential rewards) by a technical difficulty.
If this keeps going on, by the time the game is fixed, people that have been checking in constantly for news (especially those trying to find info on Facebook and Twitter) might have given up and will have moved onto a new commitment and won't be interested in recommitting.

I feel bad for the developers honestly. If it is Apple that's keeping the game from being updated they're having their business stifled by red tape from a third party.
  • Apple does not take two weeks to approve updates. They never have. We've seen D3 out updates through before when it benefits them. I've released enough apps on the iOS platform to know it never takes this long.
Just like their support, which is nearly non existent, with most issues going unanswered or forgotten about, they most likely haven't even sent in the update to Apple.

Shame too. Most of those who follow through FB have been getting all their refunds back. It's costing them thousands of dollars a day to let this go on.

While I've never published anything on Apple, I'm not sure why D3 would want the bad publicity over this. I mean, even assuming that the loss of the iOS users does not outweigh just enduring the refund demands, why would they outright lie about the situation over simply stating "we are addressing the issue," and letting that go on indefinitely?
Though I suppose to be fair, it seems D3 has not made any official public comment on the situation beyond the initial announcement back on the 11th? 12th? Though there have been comments from IceIX about the situation in the forums (which I appreciate since any information at this point is still something) and some quotes from people that supposedly got responses from support about the issue. But still, I have to imagine this game is successful enough on the iOS for the developers to want to keep the player base there going.
As for support tickets, there do seem to be a notable amount of complaints. In my experience I have only sent three tickets. One I got a response in three hours, one has gone 19 days and and a follow up on my end with no response, and the third was back when the iOS7 issue came out, but no response to that yet either. The last one I'm letting go for now because I imagine those are all getting backlogged at the moment. So I guess I have a mixed view on that point? Though I do agree with you that the representatives of D3 need to be more public and open with the situation so people know what's going on. We should not have to be digging around Facebook walls and forum comments to get information like this.
Nonetheless, the fact that we're still speculating on the situation is problematic enough.

So I got a response to my ticket today about the issue. I don't know how helpful this will be for others but I figured I would share the information for those interested:
We are aware of a significant issue when playing Marvel Puzzle Quest on an iPhone 4 with iOS version 7.1. This seems to be a result of recent changes to the operating system introduced in iOS 7.1 as the game continues to function normally on older versions of the OS. This issue does not seem to be affecting other devices (4S, 5, 5S, etc.).

Specifically on the iPhone 4 with iOS 7.1, the game deadlocks on launch and users cannot play.

We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and appreciate your patience. We will update you as soon as we have more information.

I'm guessing we're still a ways out if they're still saying soon "as possible," but at least its an update.
  • that is nothing i got the same exact response the day the issues started happening, no change at all

Yup. They might as well say "get a better phone or f--- off".
  • I had received same response as well.

I have i4 which has this problem, but my iPad was never updated. Support was able to link my account to Facebook for me to be able to play on iPad. I found a work around but I can't play as often since i4 is out of commission
  • Does someone know about other apps with the same problem?

Apple launched this upgrade to solve a lot of internal problems they had in the earlier versions. The version is now stable, and I think they will not invest in a new version if there are no more apps with problems.

And remember, the 5 platform don´t have problems ... so it´s easier to say "change your device" !!!

I don´t believe in a solution for this case ...

Yes, The Simpsons: Tapped Out was also affected.

However, they were able to provide an update 5 days later.
