A Plea for 4*-only PVP

A full page of responses, and no one noticed the word "ONLY" in Colog's post. As in "4*-only." The whole point is that when every damn PvP battle is featured/OML/Phoenix, the game is boring as ****. This isn't about the reward structure, it's about giving us reasons to use the rest of our roster. And Heroic PvEs aren't the answer.0

It is so obvious we need a 4-PvP featured event (with a featured 4 OR just with 4 chars), with more iso and better rewards played instead (you play one or the other) of the normal 3-featured that it hurts!!!
This and PvE node rewards scaling with the node difficulty are the two things are so obvious that it is incredible they are not being done already.0 -

I'm sure the issue with this is that people who participate in the 4* only pvp would need to be locked out of the standard 3* featured pvp. Otherwise the 4* player could double up in rewards which would presumably break their business plan.0

What keeps you from using these fun 4* characters right now?
MMR. I don't have nearly the 4* roster than Colog does, but I have more champed 4*s than most. And they pretty much just collect dust at this point. I literally CAN'T use them in PvP until I have more than 800-1000 points. I can't beat the teams that I'm matched with using 4*s. Once I get to 800-1000 MMR opens up a bit and I can fight some 3* and 4* teams for single digit points, but if I use my 4*s to do it I'll get blasted on retals back down into 5* MMR.
So the characters might be "fun" to play, but not particularly effective? You have to rely on the stronger characters to successfully compete. I suppose a 4* only PVP would filter out the 5* whaling fleets, but other than that, wouldn't the exact same scenario apply? You have a required character, this time a 4*, and then you rely on your strongest remaining characters in order to effectively compete. I don't think the situation changes at all by creating a 4* PVP.0 -
After thinking about this more instead of just asking for it here is what I think might Keep it Simple and allow for something additional.
No change to Season and Season PvP's keep them the way they are 3* featured play any character.
In parallel have two 4*-only tournaments a week running for four days. One starts on Monday and Ends Friday the following starts on Thursday and ends Monday. I think that gives different ending days and times from the existing PvP's.
The rules should be featured 4* character plus two other 4*- only characters to play. Also no loaner. If you don't have the featured 4* you are locked out. If you don't have three 4* you are locked out.
Progression awards should be just like they are for 3* PvP. Featured character cover at 800, next event 4* cover at 1000; 25 cp for 1300. Placement awards top 1 5* cover. The rest of the placement awards the next 4* cover for the next event as they are done for the current PvP.
In regard to the meta being different I think when I look at the 4* in isolation there is a nice bit of counter built in across a number of characters. I am sure there is a best team and it would be discovered fairly rapidly. I think though that there might be the antidote to that team in other 4* and it will make choosing team makeup more interesting.
If this was implemented it would give more iso and covers to those in the 4* transition. By having it 4* only it gives those who might conceivably skip over 4* in favor of 5* a reason to have at least a few 4* to be able to compete. By not having a loaner it will make some of those players consider rostering some.
I am sure this is flawed in some way but this is as off the top of my head as the OP was.0 -

Interesting idea, but my gut reaction is that it would further separate the developed 4* crowd from the 3*-->4* group trying to catch up.
Personally, I think they should use a concept like what you described but as part of a 24/7 lightning round series. They could get rid of the featured character in the current LRs and replace them with 1* only, 2* only, 3* only, 4* only, 5* only and unrestricted LRs which cycle throughout the day. The iso rewards could increase appropriate to the level of characters involved (so 1* LRs would have a lower iso payout for progression/placement than 4* or 5* LRs). LRs with no featured character boosts will presumably encourage people to try new team compositions, so there should be a lot more variety (at least I'd hope so, but I guess I should assume nothing in this game). The relatively poor placement awards for LRs also should discourage it from degenerating into being the same three characters over and over and over...at least in theory.
I'm sure there's better ideas out there, but at least this could start to address several concerns at once and still be easily implementable in the current event structure...0 -

Then again if they just alternated a 3* PVP with a 4* PVP I would also be good with that too.0
