Potential roadblock in my crazy plans: I just pulled an IHMB red, making him 5/4/3. Is it finally time to start leveling him instead of trying to squeeze anything out of Star-Lord?

12 cover HB is vastly superior to 13 cover Starlord, imo.

I'm a big hater of SL...had 13 covers of him before any other 4* I think (possibly Elecktra), even though they were newer than the older, worse IW.

Big surprise that so many here are calling him mid-tier. He was an early 4*, so vets had the option to level him right after XF/GT/Fury...but I rarely see leveled copies, and even more rarely do I see him out in the wild when he's buffed. Maybe he's in a land I don't play - PVE only character? I put him firmly behind those three first ones, even after two of them got a hard nerf.

    2. I have 3 unchampioned 4*s with 13 covers: Fury, SL, and XFDP. I already have two Fury covers in my queue, so he's the immediate ISO priority. After that, I'm probably going to be getting multiple Star-Lord covers (both Gamora and R&G are 181) ahead of XFDPs.
You're right that Star-Lord isn't that bad - but XFDP is a tier above him. Star-Lord and Fury might tie for priority, but get your XFDP champed asap!

This. I like Star-Lord, and want to champion him (with 5 yellow), but XPool is key in the 5* transition.

Tc: obviously you should play the game however you like. But if you care at all about meta-strength and maximizing your resources I would *strongly* advise you to champ xpool first and star-lord probably not ever.

Starlord just isn't good. He is not useless, but there is almost always a better option for whatever you might need.

His problems can be summarized as follows:

    (1) his powers are fragile. 3 countdown powers means that there is no way for him to 'run the board' and win matches without giving the enemy another turn. And all of his powers can be matched away or destroyed with boardshake.

    (2) he is slow. Again because of the countdowns, he takes a long time to get going. Red is a 3 match power then makes a 3 match countdown. Purple is a 4 match power. That's 6 turns before anything can happen at best.

    (3) his ap shenanigans just don't work well. Yellow requires 3 matches to cast, and then only reduces ap costs by 2. That's a terrible trade unless you can cast several powers while the cool down is out. But then we are talking about collecting 7 yellow ap + enough to cast something else several times. But there are lots of combos that do really well after you collect a ton of ap. If you are going to go through all that trouble, then you should just bring along a better combo. Yellow can be useful in some very select circumstances (mostly with 5ap powers), and can be fun to use. But it's not a competitive power in the meta.

His yellow should be a passive that works like 3* falcon. Collect 5 so of some color and he passively spawns a countdown that reduces ap costs. And to balance it. You can make the ap he needs to trigger it be purple. That would create a nice tension between reducing costs And using powers.

I'm about to champion SL because I'm going to get him from login rewards soon, and I don't want that cover to go to waste. Plus I happen to have two more of his covers sitting in my queue.

So after that, I'll pretty much champion in the order that I'll receive their covers for logging on:

    XFDP
    KP
    Falcap
    Thing
    ProfX
    Iceman
    Mr.F
    Miles

Although I might champion a few of the good ones earlier than that, such as Iceman and Cyclops.

Star Lord is nice for wave PVP, when you can save up yellow and get a lot of mileage out of his yellow.

IMO, the biggest problem with SL is the redesign of IM40. His yellow used to be a great way of making multiple colored powers cheap... But now IM40 does it better, and for less yellow.

Star-lord and Iron Man 40 is a pretty fun combo. Lower all costs, generate lots of AP, wipe out Enemy.
I prefer Star-lord with Nova and Iceman though. 4AP for Rocket Man and Snowman is niiiice.

    AaRGH!

I just pulled a Star-Lord purple from an ISO Brotherhood token! He's already 5/3/5, why is this game forcing such a hard decision onto me (again)?

The game is telling you congratulations on receiving 1000 ISO!

Wouldn't it be awesome if you could champ them while they are low level? I suggested before the ISO costs could even be scaled up past normal - so you pay the least ISO if you level from 1-(max) without using a 4th cover, but you could take a 4* at level 60 and go up to 160 with champ covers only...but your ISO costs are no longer paying 60-270, but 160-370.

Easy win all around - players aren't tossing covers, players still have to decide who/when to put ISO out there.

This is me right now, with a fourth cover coming from my login rewards shortly! And two more coming from logins over the next 1-2 months. So yes, I'll be championing him within the next 1-2 days.

Actually I'm impressed with his powers, now that I've champed him! When boosted, his red takes away ~12,500, and his purple takes away ~11,500 + ~2,500 to the other two enemies. Not bad at all.

Oh, how the worm has turned again! This time, in the form of XFDP: I'm 8 days from getting my 14th cover -- is it better to level and champ him than it is to put ISO into a 12-cover IMHB?

AAAAAAAAAHH I just pulled another purple Star-Lord! If I count the one from R&G, that's three in my queue! RNG really wants me to champion SL!

I'm sure you're all on the edges of your seats, waiting to hear what I do. Well you're in luck!

Because I've sold all 3 of the Star-Lord covers, and put about 270K into XFDP and not IMHB because I'm going to get that 14th XFDP in a few days.

A perfectly reasonable choice. Enjoy the X-force pair. They do play well together.

    1. I played against a championed SL, and he was pretty disruptive! Might have to do with not targeting him first because of his terrible forum reputation, but I can envision a few useful lineups with him.
    3. Being able to re-spec him would be good when his DDQ comes around again.

    Do you like:

    (1) Winning MPQ matches?
    (2) Using fewer healthpacks?
    (3) pouches and tiny Rob Liefeld feet?

If the answer to at least 2 of those questions is Yes, then champ XDP first.

He is one of the best second tier 4*s, plays very well with 5*s like OML, and is beastly when boosted. By far the best of your 13/13 4*s.

Re: star-lord, he has to be on the very shortest short list for redesigns. Wait to see what he looks like post-revisions before dropping iso on him.

I would love to champion my Star-Lord now and pair him with Green Goblin just because of his fortifying ability.
