perceive the obvious power of T'Challa and the new "gold" Thor as a horrible cash grab?
More like the overwhelming uselessness of T'challa
Its funny how I never see anyone who thinks he's overpowered actually using him0 -

New players and those making the jump from 2 to 3 *'s are going to have a VERY hard time getting any character to a useable level as the number of 3*'s increases. Only by pulling some covers completely out of circulation for a period of months can they combat this.
Note that I'm not saying PLAYERS with those characters should be unable to use them, just that retired characters shouldn't be available as token drops in order to focus random chance on a smaller pool of targets.
They will never retire characters, they will restrict touraments so you cant' use all of your characters but they will never retire them, too much time and investment into them you would see pepole leaving this game in mass exodous.
Plenty of games have retired characters, cards, powers, items, etc. I wouldn't say never if I were you. And I don't think you read my post closely. It said PLAYERS could still use them but that no new tokens for them would drop during their period of retirement.0 -
Um 15 3*s really isnt a whole helluva ot when you think about it and truth be told they do give hp out freely enough that you can overtime build up just about any character you want to once you've won their covers from a PVE or PVP event.0

I doubt they will retire characters. It is much more likely that will give more tokens that target specific hero groups. For example, instead of giving a Heroic token as progression reward they will give an X-Men or Avengers token. Standard and Heroic tokens will probably stay the same though.
New 1* and 2* characters are also less likely to make an appearance since their covers are relatively easy to obtain though Standard/Heroic tokens so players won't spend HP on them. Their abilities and health will always be worse than 3* characters so players who make the transition to 3* will almost always want to build a 3* instead of a 1* or 2* which means the effort they will put into creating a new 1* or 2* character will not make them any money. Unless 1* and 2* become essential either by holding regular tournaments with restricted team * level, or by giving them useful and unique abilities I don't expect to see one any time soon.0 -
I don't hate that idea. As long as it is announced and there is some level of buyback.
"Character XYZ is being taken out of rotation, will no longer appear as tournament rewards, in token draws or will be buffed/featured in events. Feel free to use yours as you please or sell back for an limited time increased price'
That way I can know when to stop trying to get the covers for someone I will never finish, free up a roster slot and recoup some losses.
Players who already have them cover maxed or just want to keep them now have a trophy character that newbies can drool over and go 'wow I've never seen one of those before' and they can bring em back a year from now and make people lose their minds.
As a mid level i'm all for this, keeps me from the maddening state of needing to concentrate on getting EVERY cover for EVERYONE and focuses more on working towards the new content being released keeping everything fresh and fluid.0 -
They just need to make tokens that you can spend in different selections.
ie
Spend you herioc token on
selection A for a chance at IM40 Hulk GSBW plus all the 2*s
selection B for a chance at Patch Daredevil Spiderman plus all the 2*s
selection C for a chance at Magneto Punisher Thor BP
etc
But I agree with the concern. Right now if you need a specific cover for say Hulk your chances of getting it are going down with every new 3*.0 -

I had a thread about retiring characters before introducing new ones, and the general consensus, from everyone who wasn't me, was that I was insane. I tried to articulate my concern like you have, and it didn't go over very well.
The problem is, no matter what character you "retire", you're going to really upset a lot of people. Oh, you've gotten GSBW to 120? Great, she can stay there FOREVER, you can't get any more tokens without paying us cash dollars for them. Oh, leveling up your first three star? Going for Magneto? Too bad, we're retiring him, **** you and all your ISO! Try again.
I agree that there's a problem, but "retirement" sounds like a huge frustrating mess. There are many other options that would work better.0 -

No, not forever. Read the second post in this thread where I suggested it. I said setting up a retirement rotation, where all the characters moved in and out of the random token pools over a period of months, would be the way to go. You're welcome to disagree with my ideas, but at least understand them first.0 -
I think that simply creating a more efficient recruit token system would help immensely.
Heck, keep the same tokens, but rather than plunk them into the same window we currently have, offer the player 2, 3, or even 4 different groups of characters to drop their token into.
This would look like choosing from the A group, B group, or C group, which could have similar images like the event tokens, but be a more permanent collection that Heroic or even standard tokens could focus our draws.
It could even just be a simple option hidden at the bottom of the settings tab, (Group A, Group B, Group C, or All). Anything that would keep all characters as well as the new ones, while offering an option for newer players to focus on a few characters.
It could even be used to split up the 2* & 1* characters a bit as well (that is if the developers were ever inclined to add a few more 1* to the mix.)0 -
I sort of enjoy the large number of characters being released on a consistant basis. Yes it means I may never (or very slowly) obtain these covers to make them usable but I enjoy the grind of the game. Its a slow process that feels rewarding when I do obtain a cover I have been hoping for. Slowly my army GROWWSS!!!
I do really dislike the lazy characters that are introduced. It seems like a straight cash grab and somewhat invalides that previous version. Boring0 -
As a newbie to Marvel Puzzle Quest, I feel like I can weigh in on this. I have played for almost a week now. If I had not stumbled onto this website and read the newbie guide created by Polarity, I would be pitching a fit about how unbalanced and terrible this game is.
I have got my wife playing right now as well and she is struggling through the same issues I was previously facing. But I have been able to walk her through. Part of the problem is when you have special events like the Heroic Juggernaut event, you limit the amount of heroes you can use.
You would think something like that would be used help even the field for the people starting off, but that is where you are wrong. A person with a stash of 3*'s loses a couple of guys for an event, he still has an amount in his stable to use. So while it's a challenge, it's still very viable for them to do well.
My wife on the other hand cannot even do them yet, because she is locked into only being able to use Black Widow and Storm. (has MN Mag's 2* and a Dakken 2*, Iron Man 1* and Hawkeye 1*)
Now you might say, well level up in the main game and then join up or spend some cash on the hero pack. And I agree those are options. But when you are trying to draw people into a game starting off, asking them to pay to play a freemium game so quickly is not the best idea. The key is get them involved and engaged with their roster. By limiting such a small pool to the point you exlude part of your player base, thats just terrible.
So an option to consider for future events, keep 1*'s available to use. I know my wife would consider spending a few dollars if she new how much fun the game is.
The only thing that is keeping her around is that I went from nothing to a solid stable in a week thanks to the hulk event!0
