I missed one clear, so....

I've been fervently doing five clears per sub, fighting to stay in the top 100 for this new character. But sometimes on weekends, I like to focus on family time, so I miss a few clears.
That puts me out of the top 100 for the rest of the 7-day pve. Which is a shame, as that means all the rest of the work is for naught. I may not even end up getting the 25 cp.

Based on what I've previously experienced before, it's totally possible, especially given that it's a 7 day event. I've pulled off a real big escape before for the Miles release PVE, which was also a 7 day event. I pulled the following post from the best moments thread since I couldn't remember exactly how long I was out of the game.Had a corrupted save file on the 4th day of Miles PVE, so I was pretty much resigned to not placing t100 this time, the first time for a new release since Iceman. Still, i submitted my ticket to CS and thanks to old threads around here I found out what CS would ask from me, which I included in the form. My account was promptly restored by the start of sub 6, and I was still in 160th place (surprise!). Figured I had a chance of placing t100, so i grinded the essentials for those last 2 subs to abt 200pts each, and i managed to sneak in t100 by abt 1000 points to snag that miles. Basically I managed to miss almost 2 subs worth of points and still secured a t100. One of my greatest escapes in my 2yrs of MPQ
tl;dr I missed out close to 2 subs worth of clears for the Miles release PVE and still managed to get top 100 through extremely heavy grinding on the last 2. Missing out on a couple of clears might be salvageable if you are willing to grind a bit harder towards the end of the subs.0 -
I've been doing two clears and grinding the easy nodes, I'm in t25 every time no problem. What slice do you choose , I always pick slice 10
-
Wow. I should try that. I've always done s2.0

Maybe you could try.. I dunno.. the actual 7 clears to get all rewards?
Or do the grind like those going for rewards in a sub or two?
Nothing comes for free. Especially not a character required in one path of the bigggest event of the season0 -
haha you chose family over a digital comic book cover. that'll teach you. /sarcasm
The only way to win PvE is to not play.0 -
You missed one clear and if you get to 6-7 clears on a couple subs you can make it up and get back into top 100. The time itvwill take to do an extra clear 20-30 min depending my on your roster. Use some AP boosts and o make it go faster on the harder nodes to save on health packs as well. I started well out of top 200 after my first clear and am close to top 20 now by getting no 7 clears in0

If you have a family or outside obligations, my advice would be to quit. You cannot base your schedule around a game when you have responsibilities. This is a game for people with immense amounts of free time and flexibility.0

So very true. You gotta go after it with the fervor of a porn addict, you got people playing in traffic (two accidents caused by this game that I know of), you've got people ignoring their families (bad example for the kids) and you've got people risking their careers to get a few fights in in the john at work when they should be being productive. You've got people screwing up their sleep schedules and harming their health to stay optimal. And yet, the devs wont make any changes to actually make PvE PvE instead of just another thinly disguised PvP.
It's honestly shameful.0 -
Not sure where you are, but I missed an entire grind in the Punisher release, and still got top-20. So it can be done.0

Ignoring progression, take a gamble if you desire a new release cover. Join a slice late.. by late I mean 2 to 3 days after the 7 day event starts. It has often paid off for me, Lazy bracket, sub-optimal clears and I'm about 50th overall for this one. Like I said, it's a gamble but worth taking if you don't want to commit your life to a game.0
-
Wait, you thought you could have a life and succeed at PvE?0
-
Play slice 5 (if possible) before alliance event. As the new release character is the required for alliance events some move to a different slice for the PVE before that as the alliance event has a start time before the event (and any rewards from it) is complete.0

As others say, the short answer is "you should not aim for PvE placement if you have RL responsabilities". Keep playing, you can easily get progression for a good bunch of ISO and tokens, but forget placement.
New PVE system could ease this situation somehow, but I still have my doubts on that...0 -

Very interesting, I should probably have done something like that instead of jumping into it from the start. Out of curiosity, how many full clears on average are you doing per sub?0 -
I'm sorry but 6-7 clears for 7 days in a row is absolutely ridiculous. For one stinkin' cover. That I can win a week later in PVP. And will never use except as the required node for the next pve, as it won't be getting champed for at least a year.
I love that people are like "How dare you think that you should deserve to win a single cover by only playing a few hours a day?!"0 -
You can do better than 5 clears the days where you can play, then you can get away with less in the days you can't/don't want. Even in those days, take 10 minutes to do the 3 essentials + the last normal sub a couple times and you should remain at least top 100.0
-
You already can get new characters by only playing a few hours a day on new releases. It takes under an hour to do 3 perfect/near perfect cycles and if you put in an hour (or a bit more) of grinding somewhere in the final 3 or 4 hours, you are easily going to net top 100. If you want 2 or 3 personal covers then you need to play more than just a few hours a day but a single cover is easy.
I don't even disagree with you about give out covers to more people but it's just not true that you can't get new characters with a handful of hours a day. The harder part is doing those handful of hours consistently.0 -
I'm in a woefully under-populated slice (S2 - with only 300 people in it as of Sub4). I picked S2 though I probably should not have as it worked well for good clears and grinds on the wekeend, the rest of my week will be filled with sub-optimal clears and little-to-no grinding. I'm currently sitting at Top 10 but I feel the wheels will come off unless everyone else is in the same boat I am.
I'm only hoping that the 100+ people who missed out on the first 1-2 subs do not catch up with me and I can hang in the top 100 in order to get one measly cover for the required nodes.0 -
If you are shooting for more than to 100, it may be the case that missing a clear can be fatal. I honestly don't know, I never shoot for more than top 100. This is what I do, take it for whatever you will:
I enter slice 3 as it is the best set up for me to grind. Other slices may have different behavior. I never enter a PVE the first day - I generally wait until the morning of the second day (so more than 12 hours after the slice opened, but less than 18.)
My first three days vary wildly - I frequently can't play hardly at all on Saturday (going to a social event,) and my play on Sunday is generally fairly erratic (I can play in the morning and from 11:30 to 2:00, but then I miss the 2-5 - I can do a minimal grind.) I then typically score top 50 each weekday with a clear at 5pm, a sub-optimal clear at around 10pm, a clear at 9am, and a grind of at least the "hard" nodes starting at 3.
I haven't failed to get top 100 with this, even with doing only 1 or 2 clears on the Saturday sub. I often get top 50, but that doesn't really matter.
I don't know - entering a slice earlier may put you with more crazies, and that is what will tip the scale. I suspect you'll be find if you put a bit of extra work into it.0 -
I'm not much of a pve player, but I tend to enter them all just to tank any of the ones w/o covers I care about (conservative estimation: 50% of them). Strategy has worked out pretty well as I always seem to make top 100 in the ones I *do* want to play without playing anywhere near optimally.0
