Your Strategy
Ok so how do you do it? How do you maximize points, for example in this Hulk event? Cause no matter how many times i grind down the points to 1 on each reset, i still can't finish top.
What do you do when you have to work? I was only able to go through each mission ONCE today until later on. So should i wait for the next reset before doing so? Because i wasn't able to do the missions more than once, do i have any hope of top 20?
Guys like Nemek,Phantron and particularly Jozier (you were in my bracket this morning and with 2 hours to go i was above you,but then barely finished in the top 20.
I know to keep points for the end but how do you calculate that? Thanks

I'm sure a lot of people will post good advice here but tbh if you want really quality advice i would ask very nicely of nemek or walkyourpath or another of the good strategist residing around here. I personally don't understand the runner banding all that great. I just play when I feel like it.0

Please please please can Nemek and WalkYourPath respond
there that's as nice as i can be seriously though, all help appreciated.0 -
Not sure what the particulars are for Hulk event, but in all the previous PVE events I was able to get top5 placement by joining with 14 hrs to go in the event and doing one lap through the nodes. Then I'd wait until there are 2 hours left in the event let rubberbanding take full effect and start grinding like a mad man.
I got jammed up at work today, so was only able to bang out a few nodes for my 2nd refresh and that was still good enough for top20 finish. I think top 4 would've been possible if I had woken up before work to get some nodes in.
I think it also depends on how grindy your subbracket is... Some people just have that kind of time on their hands where they can do 3 refreshes.0 -
I don't care much about points. If I get 2 thor covers that'll be enough for me.0

The strategy is pretty simple once you understand how the events work from a basic level.
1. Points refresh every 8 hours.
2. The further behind you are from the global leader in the subevent, the more points you will get in that subevent.
Based off of point 2, its easy to see that you want to do missions as late as possible. Going off of point 1 and the assumption that youll always get more points by doing 2 clears as opposed to 1, then the natural strategy is to finish your clears such that you finish your final clear right before the subevent ends. This means that if youre aiming for 2 clears, doing something like asianinvasions strategy of starting 10 hours before the end of the event means that you have 2 hours to finish your clears. There are some more nuances that ill clarify when i get to a computer, but thats the gist of placing well in subbrackets.0 -
Unless you can grind an entire refresh to 0 you can't just take it easy until the last refresh. Usually you want to do anything that is relatively easy for you every refresh, like the all goons mission, or if you happen to have a strong hero for a hero required fight.0
-
The key is to go for your last refresh starting with about 2-1.5 hours left in the sub bracket. If you go earlier than that someone will pass you and you won't be able to have last minute fights worth enough points to keep up.0

Thank you for the respones keep em coming0

Here's some essential PvE strategy reading by Nemek to get you started: http://www.d3pforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1737&hilit=nemek+faq
There's not a whole lot I can add to what he laid out there, but some additional thoughts -
1. I have a day job too, so I have to maximize my rubberbanding to place well in PvE generally. I crushed the first 2 Hulk events, but that was due to having crazy free time on my hands over X-mas. After reading Nemek's breakdown of that topic, think about your available time to play and plan accordingly. If you want to be in that top 200 for the unbracketed main, you'd better be prepared to get in as many refreshes as you can.
2. Whatever your goal, there is no getting around the fact that timing your last run at your missions needs to be as close to the end of the sub-events as possible (village wisdom on this is to start your final run about 90 minutes from close) in order to get the best possible placement. Picking away at them throughout the day will make it so that you don't have worthwhile points to gain at the finish line. Even if you grind them all the way down before then, people will pass you up in the closing minutes due to increase scores from rubberbanding.
3. Entering sub-missions right away is a double edged sword. On the one hand, if you want to crush the main bracket, you need to enter quickly so that you can get the maximum number of refreshes in. On the other, all the crazy heavy hitters have got the same idea, so you'll end up competing against really tough customers in all your sub-brackets, which makes landing a Top 4 finish for double tokens a real chore.
For this PvE, I'm taking a hardcore-lite approach, mainly due to being fully covered on my 4*s and also wanting to stave off burnout. For example, although the current subs allow for three full runs at the missions (1st run + 2 refreshes), I know that with my workload and wanting to have QT with the missus, I'm only going to be able to get 1-2 in. That will be more than sufficient to get me in the 3 3* Thor cover tier.
So, I join my subs in the late evening after wifey has fallen asleep. This gives me a full run with max rubberbanding, and less stress around when I need to get my next refresh in (I know it's at the close of the sub-event). It also makes it less likely that I have to race against the likes of Nemek, etc. to get top sub placements. I closed out the first subs at #240 in the main, and got a Top 4 + a Top 200 in my 2 subs, which lets me know that I'll be in great shape for my 3 shiny new/old Thors if I maintain the pace, and most importantly, clear the last few subs with optimal timing.
Hope that helps!0 -
My resume: finished top 5 in every Brotherhood sub-bracket (hard and normal) and finished 1st in my overall bracket.
My strategy involves figuring out when I can best play. for me, the events end at around 10:00AM usually. The ideal is to play as late as possible to maximize rubberbanding. I give myself 90 minutes to 2 hours for each subbracket, so my schedule looks like this:
7:00AM-8:30AM:clear as much of the Normal bracket as possible, always selecting mission worth the most points
8:30AM-10:00AM: Same as above, but for Hard bracket.
If this is my target for the end of the sub-brackets, then that means I need to have a similar schedule at least 8 hours beforehand, right? So the night before:
6:00PM-7:30PM:clear Normal bracket
7:30PM-9:00PM:clear Hard bracket
I don't do any missions before 6:00PM, and in that way I am not bracketed with people who are aiming for 3 refreshes. This schedule ensure maximum rubberbanding for me, but the basic idea could be moved back or forward by several hours and still produce fairly good results. After the first set of sub-brackets ended this morning, I got first in both my subbrackets and was in the top 60 in the main bracket. I also did the main bracket missions a few times as well.0 -
Perfect thank you WYP0

My strategy is:
-No join in first hour
-do one mission each sub
-wait few hours
-grind until main bracket position is <200
-repeat if there is time for second clear
- last two hrs: clear medium pointed missions
- last 30 mins: clear high pointed missions
Of course the tips in bold should be enough for an avarage bracket.0 -
The order of the missions being cleared do not matter after you're out of the 10X rubberband modifier.
The rubberband hides the data but what really happens is suppose a sub bracket has 1000 points total, and going into the final refresh you're behind by 500 points. Due to the way the rubberband works, this means you have to do about 100 more base points worth of missions to beat the current bracket leader. Note that if that guy simply did everything, you'd never catch up. But ever since the scaling goes in, nobody actually does every mission down to 0 because it'd be too hard, and even without scaling it's extremely time consuming. So what usually happens is the leader sits on his lead without being aware that it only takes 100 points of base mission value to pass him up. All the strategy involved is really about how to:
1. Minimize the amount of total work you've to do.
2. How to creep up on the leader slowly enough so that he doesn't start simply doing even more missions.
That said, you shouldn't always assume ignorance is on your side. I've been in TaT sub brackets where the top 2 guys knew exactly how much effort they need to do to stay ahead of you for good, and you would never creep up to those guys at all. Of course, as long as there aren't 4 of those guys in your sub bracket, you can probably sneak up to one hapless victim at the very end.0 -
One thing I'm not totally clear about after reading a bunch of these: in order to get a good overall placement in the main event, should I be grinding every mission down to one point during each pass through or should I just play the mission once each time, then wait for the refresh?0
-
I really just clear off the most valuable nodes at any given time but take one sub at a time.
I usually wait more than an hour to join a sub, I check the scores until the restricted nodes get to around 1000 or above and dont look like they are getting much higher. when I join the sub right away, it just doesnt seem like there is enough total points to affect the main bracket and it's usually a lot more competitive.
I don't waste my time with grinding to 1. maybe if its a high scoring node and the last clear is over 100 but I dont waste my time with sub 100 nodes unless I really have to fight for the award position I want. I think it's more important to clear the highest score at the node multiple times then wait around for a node to recharge all the way from 1. Also, when a node is ground down to 1 it seems like the node takes longer to refresh but it might just be that 1 score nodes dont have point scaling but if you leave it at 100 when other people start to beat you when you are away, the score can scale upward especially near the end of the main event.
another point about not grinding down to 1 is why waste your time with 50 point nodes when you have another sub that has 1000+ point nodes. It's much better in the long run to get more band for the buck than be completist.
I usually try to win top 4 on whichever node is the least competitive and top 100 on the other. if you go for top 4 in both you risk getting 5th in both and only getting 2 tokens instead of an easy 3.
I try to keep my rank in the main node comfortably inside the range of the prize I am looking for. This event I just fought my way to 7 even though I would be happy with a top 1000. If I dont get burnt out then I could always go for top 200 but I can also take a break and not worry about my position as much. Might just be psychological but I feel its easier to maintain than to come from behind.0 -

I would grind them down to abut 100 points. dont just complete once, but don't feel like you have to go all the way to 1 unless you have a full 8 days non stop on your hands.0 -
I just grind the fights that have at least 2 goons and hit the rest later.0

If you do that every refresh you'll never lose, but nobody I know has that kind of time and patience.
If the event has dynamic scaling, just grinding the last refresh down to 1 is almost always enough, though that's again because nobody I know can pull that off (you're talking about 30+ 230X3 missions here usually, if not more). It's only possible if the scaling is generous on the mission, but keep in mind if the scaling is generous, then other people could grind it down to 1 as well, and in that case the earlier effort do matter if both characters are capable of grinding down to 1.
Let's say a sub bracket has 1000 worth of points if you grinded everything to 0. Doing 1000 on the last refresh is almost always enough, but that's often not doable. The trick is to find out a combination of effort that lets you get the highest possible base points worth within your time. For example, let's say you determined doing 900 points of base missions on the last refresh is enough. Alternatively you might be able to say hit most of the high point missions prior to the last refresh a few times, and then you'd only need 700 base points to win on the last refresh. This is important because in a 230X3 event, you can simply run out of health pack or even just time trying to get that last 200 base points.0 -
