Thoes are 3* characters i never play with except there are essential:

- Starting with the worst, IMO40. I never touched him even once till now on day 595, because he feels more like a double agent, hurting me instead of the enemy team and he takes forever to build up his powers. There is no combination I can see wich he flaws in to do something good.

- Spidey is one of my all time, all favorite heros but I do know no reality in the Marvel multiverse were he can heal. His purple is pretty reasonable for other purple user like GSBW and stunning is okay too but healing? Hell no!

- GSBW is a awesome damage dealer... if you collect enough purple to gather 19 green AP, so Thor, KK are always the better choice for green AoE.

- Psylocke is too squishy, cheap powers, low damage, her rate of making special tiles compared to others is way too low to make good use of them, I think she looks good on the papers as a fast assassin but do not really brings someone down.

- Pun is a awesome character but i will always decide BP's black over his because its way too weak and green, red doesnt compare this weakness.

- DockOck is way to speciallised in destroying a mass of enemy special tiles, the only enemy i can think of making enough of this is Mohawk Storm with her black to benefit of him.

The same goes for many 4*, I think its time for a major buff/nerf update.

IM40 and Spidey are the only 3*s not in rotation.

Heck, my trivial trio as i call them, are Psylocke, Beast, IF.. all 3 special tile makers/spammers.. and can even murder the low level waves with ease and almost no damage taken..

GSBW you will come to love and adore when you have a properly covered PX...

Pun, also a daily for me, LThor, Pun, OBW is my TBE team, if Lthor goes down, Pun can easily solo the final round, and vice versa. He is also my guarantee that every round ends with an ability to waves 2 and 4 never get to do anything... yes i have max 4*s, but i that team is just too easy.

Doc Oc -, any high level 3 goon PVE node, Doc is the man, match a CD tile.. boom, you get attack tiles.

even Colossus is brought in from time to time.. mostly in gauntlet, to throw someone, but he is fun!

Right now my list of "left behind"
    IM40
    3* Spidey
    Reed
    Failcap.

    IMO40
    - Use with Lcap or 4*thor.

    Spidey
    - use against Ninjas.

    GSBW
    - Use with PX

    Psylocke/Pun
Use with Bullseye on trivial nodes.

    DockOck
I don't use him either.... really too slow. :/

    IM40
    - Use with Lcap or 4*thor.

This. The key to IM40 is only having 2 yellow skill and boost red/yellow. Match 2 yellow and fire it off. You can get 9 blue/9 red AP.

He is the only character where you don't want him fully covered.

Against lvl 395 goons, you can run IM40 + MN Mags + Steve Rogers to wipe em all out without taking any damage.

I agree with others on gsbw and im40. I do use im40 with cap or hb or torch (with another blue user), but mostly only when he's essential. and only for his yellow. gsbw I use in a couple of different teams - both with witch. one obvious one with px and a goon team with falcon as third.

I do use Punisher once in a while as a specialist - his maxed retribution is still good for massive hitpoint foes like Ultron, Galactus or the occasional lvl395 Hulk or Juggs.

I would love to use GSBW more, but the way the covers fell I always had a more pressing 3*'s to level up. Now with 18 or so lvl 166 3*'s, my ISO is going to building my 4*'s, so its unlikely she'll ever get the love at this rate.

Here' the ones I have (fully covered) but never use beyond essentials and haven't pumped ISO into:

Squirrel Girl - When money and roster spots get tight, she'll be the first to go.
    Beast
    Doc Ock
    Rags
    Gamora

Not bad characters any of them (except maybe SG), I'm just past the point where it's worth it to level them. Maybe Doc Ock one day, he could be a strong support for the right 4* team.

Ones I've leveled some but never use anyway:

Sentry - even before the nerf I never liked him, too much self team damage
IM40 - his yellow seems to be valuable for those making that 2-3* transition, but once you've got the full set of 3*'s available to you, you'll never use him. There's more efficient color generators out there.
Spidey - Rare combo with GSBW when there's an avengers specific node like in Ultron or Galactus, but that's about it. We really need a SUPERIOR 4* version.
Deadpool - the occasional Whale use only, when I feel like punishing myself in the Gauntlet, but again, he felt left behind by the time he was usable, so I left him at lvl 90.
Colossus - I don't like his artwork. Silly, I know, but others do what he does better anyway.

I still keep my IM40 at 1 yellow cover so for 6 AP I generate 9 Red AP only. I use him with LCap, Torch, etc, any red user.

I've debated bringing up his Yellow to 2 covers, but I don't want to make him need to match 3 times before generating AP.

    Of the 5, I would defend;

GSBW - Like others, she's a winfinte gem with PX and S.Witch (boosted when purple/pink is strongest)

Doc Ock - is a member of my goon crushing squad. Doc.Ork + Blade + Falcon

My wave killing team is Prof X - Falcon - Punisher. One Punisher green ability combined with Prof and Falcon's buffs really trivialises the waves. And then once you have +1500ish damage on the board you really see the benefit of molitov cocktails. The last wave of DDQ normally goes down to two molitovs.

Before I had good enough a prof it was Spidey - Falcon - Punisher because the protect tiles once falcon gets at them yet again trivialise waves. Still can be the case for ninja heavy events where I want caltrops, shiruken and the attack tiles left behind neutralised.

GSBW has her uses, especially with prof X getting winfinity going.

Doc Ock doesn't really have a purpose. The attack tiles he makes aren't strong enough to justify taking him over someone like Iron Fist and his other abilities are too expensive.

IM40 red generation is OK, but I find Cyclops' yellow to be a more effective red battery generally, given the suicidal nature of countdown tile placement in this game. And then Cyke has two other abilities that are actually functional.
  • How did Sentry and Rags not make the list? Hate using them
  • It's sad how little I use Squirrel Girl now, for so long she was head and shoulders above the rest of my 1/2* squad (I think she was one of my first 3 cover PVE prizes). She was awesome as a team leader, but now I'm almost fully covered on 3* I just haven't been able to bring her above 125 (She's been at 120 for months) and she just doesn't get a look in. I still don't think she's as bad as everyone says, purple was amazing during the Ultron event and can that and green can still be handy if I don't have another option. I think the trouble is that purple/green has become so over-saturated. KK took her place the moment I caught up on covers.

In terms of never use? I don't even roster Beast, Spidey, Bullseye, Sentry, Psylocke, Colossus, just didn't see the point. Of what I have, Cpt Marvel and Patch get little love, but that's possibly because they're undercovered at the moment.

Unpopular with some, but Vision has become my go to guy for feeder PVP nodes, that blue can polish people off in no time. Actually, I've been meaning to try IM40 with him for the blue/red generation...

Spidey with LCap is great for survival nodes. That's when healing matters.

Spidey is good for grinding low level character nodes too. Match purple first off and take virtually no damage for the fight. I'll match him with Fist or Deadpool - someone who will actually use the purple I collect.

GSBW was my first 3* to get all covers on and first to get to 166. Great fun offensively, more so pve, but if you're going to switch to a defensive team later solid enough in pvp.

IM40 was my third to get all covers on. He's still level 114 to this day. I think that says a lot.

Doc Oct is fine as his Green is fun and his Blue wrecks any tile spammer so along with Storm I've found him very handy against strong against Magneto, Daken, Blade and even Ant-Man.

I recently maxed JG to go along with HB and assumed I'd never take -any- non essential 3* on my team anymore - Hood has proven me wrong there.

I kind of break them down into who was "good enough" to put at 166 and those I left at 140. Those I've left at 140 I basically never, ever used on the way to 4* land: Beast, Bullseye, Colossus, Daredevil, Doc Oc, Iron Man, Psylock, Quicksilver, Ragnarock, Sentry, She-Hulk, Spiderman, SG, Storm, Vision. Those at 140 that I might level eventually: GSBW/Falcon (for PVE which I basically never run), Punisher (for LR's). Maybe -maybe- She-Hulk, but most of that initial list should be boosted.

I've often come out in lists like this and mentioned that many of the "early" 3*'s were ignored and really should be boosted compared to their counterparts...but then they went ahead and made some terrible 3*'s near the end of their releases. Apparently they are done releasing 3*, so I don't know if they'll ever bother buffing them.

4*'s could be considered the same. I have IW/SL/Elektra all cover maxed level 172 - good enough to win their DDQ rounds, and I never plan on going higher - they are all terrible and not worth running boosted over several of their 4* un-boosted counterparts. There are a couple I don't have covered and haven't played so they might be deserving of that list but I wouldn't know [MrF? Fal-Cap?]

Rags and Sentry have been the most useless for me, after they both suffered brutal nerfs. I don't have them covered very well at this point, as I've sold both of them off at least 3 times to clear room for a roster spot. I've been recently keeping them around solely for DDQ purposes.

IM40 and Hulk are two of my oldest 3*s, but I hardly ever use them and both are still in the 120-130 range. I waited on leveling Hulk because I did not have him optimally covered. By the time I had 5 black, there were much better options for me to level up, and since he is rarely featured in PVP I haven't felt the need to put more ISO into him.

I like to try and use everyone, so when they are buffed I run out chars I don't usually use to see how they play. Most chars seem to have some use even if it takes just the right combo of chars. Even Doc Ock was useful against Galactus. The chars I don't use even when they are buffed is a pretty small list. (I do agree many 3*s should be updated to compete with the new waves of chars released).

    Never use list:
    1. Sentry - he does so much dmg to own team I wud rather use most 2*s, wud drop him if it weren't for DDQ
    2. Psylocke - Love the char in comics, but all her powers need revamp
    3. Vision - just too confusing, and was never a fan lol
    4. Quicksilver - annoying....but I'm sure he has uses
    5. Squirrel Girl - purple is ok, but I can't imagine scenario where i use her, always someone better with colors i need

I never use Colossus, I never use Daken anymore unless he's boosted and hardly then either.

I've played around with Bullseye, teaming him up with SW against Daken and other tile spammers. SW makes Purple, Bullseye uses purple to destroy enemy special tiles, then generates a bunch of strike tiles with the kill, and his green at 5 destroys 5 normal tiles of your choice, good for creating some match 5's. Not the best character, but fun to play with when you can.

My goon team, and my all-star team for the entire Ghost Rider PVE was Blade/SW/IF. Both of them feeding all of blades attacks. It was a thing of beauty. Do a full clear with a max of 2 health packs per clear... nice.

Sentry makes a mean strike tile.. and cheaply.

Rags, love me some Rags! cheap red, blue generator, self heal , charged tile maker..

both with 4* level HP when boosted..

    yes pls.
  • I occasionally take most characters out of mothballs and give 'em a spin for laughs, but my list of "seldom used" characters, in order of dis-preference, would be:

    1. Sentry. Since the nerf, he's slow to a fault, and not only self-damaging, but team-self-damaging. Perma-benched.
    2. 3* Spidey. No damage ability, and unlike other pure support toons, he does nothing to speed up a match. As pointed out by previous posters, the team heal seems so out-of-character for him.
    3. Psylocke. Not enough HP, not enough damage, blue is just awful.
    4. Squirrel Girl. Her yellow is arguably the worst ability in the game, and like psylocke her other two abilities are nowhere near strong enough to make up for it.
    5. Ragnarok. Went from amazingly broken, to mediocre, to downright terrible.
    6. Elektra. Not enough damage for a character who's supposed to be one of the deadliest around. Purple ought to do some damage in addition to its effect, and red should deal some damage when matched, destroyed, or overwritten.
