Why are there less tournament tokens in PvP progression?

I don't think we ever got a straight answer. There used to be a token at 250 and 800. Now, there's just one token at 300. What was the reasoning for this?

There also used to be a 2-star cover at 325 and 600, and now there's just one cover at 700.

  • There were 2 3* covers as well.

It doesn't really matter though. Progression is pretty much capped at 1000 at best.

You should still have a slim hope of climbing very slowly with successive three-hour shields and single attacks. That might be the intent, even, but I'm really not sure what they're thinking. It'd get well on towards the cost of buying the covers with HP, and for a gamble, so why bother? Maybe if you need it as your first?

I would say even less than 1000, say something like 800. If you get about that, you're going to get attacked like crazy unless you have a HUGE boosted character or an intimidating team. I used to be able to get over 1000 pretty easily, but now I can't even get over 700 without getting smashed for 30+ points every few minutes.

They removed the limited rating range for match-making to address excessive score inflation associated with people battering shielded opponents with impunity, to ensure everyone from 0-1000 was trying to drag you back down if you started running away. That's where the endless slew of 30-50pt losses comes from. It is relatively new, as far as I know - you could always get hammered, but the typical movements per match were smaller except for delayed retaliation. But with shielded opponents invisible all it's doing is clustering everybody around the same achievable peak. I would've thought that needs reviewing yet again.

Yeah, I agree. I've heard of people hitting 1000, but 700 is probably enough to win most of the brackets I've been in lately.

It's pretty ridiculous that the 2* character is well out of reach to anyone that needs it.

Yeah I'd prefer they made that a heroic/event token tbh.

Nah, I don't like those. No matter what the event, 4/5 of mine are always M Hawkeye.

Most people that enter a tournament don't have a legitimate shot at any of the good placement awards. Even a single 2* cover requires you to be in the top 1/4 of the bracket. So I'm guessing there's a lot of people that grind to 100 on seed teams and then drop out. If there was an achievable goal, a good cover they needed, somewhere around the 250 mark, these players that can't win would still have a reason to play throughout the tournament, and they'd create more points to be spread amongst those aiming higher.

Really? Even in my 2 star days I would grind for the 250/300 token then drop away.

You don't get hit for lots of event points below 300, so it's easily grind able.

In my 2 star days I'd always just aim for the HP.

I say that like it was a while ago, I think I was still mainly sporting 2 star til like last week.
  • Well, I don't know where the drop off point is. I DO happen to know of a Demuirge employee that loves some metrics though, and I bet he'd know. So where ever the non-competitive players drop off, set the first 2* reward at 50 points after that and you've got a bunch more people involved, no?

That seems waaaaaaaaaaaay too low. That's 2 fights for an easy 2* reward?

I dunno, Eddiemon is saying he'd go for 300 no matter what, so I was thinking the drop off point in a 3 day tourney would be, what? 300? So a 2* cover at 350 or 400 doesn't seem out of line.

And you can't say that 700 is the right level for it, right? So sure, devs say 700 is good, I'll say 100 is good and hopefully we split the difference.

    Oh 350/400 is fine.
Your initial post says 50 though! icon_e_biggrin.gif

Is there not already a 2* token at the 300 mark?

Oh, I said 50 points after the point most people drop out of a tournament. So, if your average lowbie grinds to 300 for the heroic token, set a carrot 50 points past that.
  • About the only positive I can say about the current PVP system is that scores are so low for top 5 placement, I can generally reach it within about 50-60 minutes of work towards the end.

In the past, you had to build a solid base of points (600-700) the night before and then make a final push the next night to reach the top 5.

I'm not sure which system is better, the latter certainly felt more satisfying (and I earned more progression rewards).

    You did indeed. I misinterpreted.
That said, on a similar note, shield training progression rewards really need a reshuffle too.

What are you talking about? If I take over top spot in Training I'll get myself a 1* Hawkeye! How awesome is that?!

I think they should replace every reward with bagman.

  • Used to be:
    * token at 25 and 100
    ** token at 250
    ** cover at 325

    Now it's:
    * token at 25
    ** token at 300

Definitely less rewards at the low end icon_e_sad.gif

    Those old rewards were great.

Back when progression rewards actually gave 100HP.
