In the example of in universe was great. You talked in universe and then switched to clear communication. The in universe post are fun and this is a game. I hope the in universe posts are also fun for the Devs to write. If they are fun for the Dev's to write and it keeps you more engaged in the game keep doing it. It makes the forums and announcements more fun. If it feels like a chore to write then it will make the Fev's less engaged. Keep writing it the way you like so you have fun at work.
I enjoy the in universe and look forward to more

I was just going to post in the PPH winners thread about how much I enjoyed the in-universe posts making a comeback. I'm all for it, if you guys have the time to do it.

When it comes to patch notes and important changes to the game and characters, out-of-universe. When it comes to introducing new characters, prizes, etc., in-universe. Even having different characters introduce allies or villains would be great.

Spidey introducing his next ally/villain, wolverine introducing Sabretooth, etc. it would be a fun way to bring in new PVE's, as well. Even re-doing Growth Industry with a new-character theme for those characters would be cool.

I would vote in-universe, but the cold hard truth is that you guys can't write comic book storylines for anything. People are asking for more story in the game, but the truth is that they are just something different than the norm and add a little variety to the proceedings. The writing isn't any truth, the pacing is all over the place, and it just comes off as bad fanfiction than what it's intended to be. It was a miracle that the Deadpool in-universe wasn't as bad as they usually are.

Straight forward facts all the way. If you choose in-universe, hire a better writer.

I understand where you're coming from, and with the statement that I agree that the storylines in MPQ are both not fantastic and more sparse than I would personally like, I don't think that you can use the comic book format as a template to judge the storyline of this game by.

Why? Because this isn't a comic book. This is a game, inspired by and influenced by comic books as well as movies and television shows. As such, it is much more limited in the way that it tells its stories. If we were to judge this under the comic book format, the way the story is told would have to be drastically different from the "X Character says..."/"Y Character says..." way they display the story. Maybe some opinion leans toward saying that they should, but with the team they have I don't think that's currently feasible. Adding more people to the team isn't as simple as just hiring someone else, either.

It might help (It does, me, but hey everyone's different and have their own opinions) if you look at this in the same way that people should look at movies that are adapted from books - they lose a lot of the in-story analysis, quite a bit of depth, character introspection and flavour in order to adapt themselves around what is primarily a visual/aural medium. Freedom is lost, changes MUST occur and a lot of "fans" cry foul at this but the movie is not the book, it's a retelling OF the book. MPQ is not a comic, it's a retelling of the stories from the comics in a very limited format.

I'm not sure what you mean about the writing not being any truth, so I can't comment on that.

    I'm rambling, and I apologize.

TLDR? I sort of agree, but not for the same reasons.

Any commentary on the story writing aside, I've been the one writing the forum posts. The writing in the game is done by a Marvel writer. He'd never touch a forum post and I'd never touch a line of in-game text. So saying that you don't like the story writing has no factor in the posts on this forum.

Out of curiosity, does that mean that you can't create more story content without go-ahead from Marvel, waiting for their writer to send you something, or do you request story and they write it for you? I mean in game, not on the forums of course. icon_e_smile.gif

The latter there. We have an ongoing contract with a couple of Marvel writers, but usually use Alex Irvine (who also, coincidentally, writes for Avenger's Alliance). We send him over a story brief with characters, outlines of what is happening when in missions, and he returns us text like magic. Internet magic.
