Survey findings - min rosters slots needed to be competitive

For new players, roster slot is arguably the best form of investment you can put in. But the problem about roster slots is that it cost HP, and HP is difficult to get for new players.

In fact, even for a veteran (old, not elite) player like me, I also have to manage my own HP expediture and roster slots can be expensive.

So that got me thinking about how many roster slots is needed to be competitive. I sampled the LINE chat groups and asked the players to self-report their roster slots. I also asked the*,3* and 4*. And lastly i asked them what is their usual scores in PVP.

Disclaimer:- i know that only looking at PVP scores may not be the best way to look at competitiveness. However it still gives a snapshot of whether the player can compete at the top end of pvp. I also received feedback that I should also take into account the number of max characters but i feel that it will be more labourious for the players to check through their entire roster, so i just leave it simply as the number of characters they have for 2*,3* and 4*.

TLDR, i asked players in LINE groups the following questions:-
1) How many rosters slot do you have?
2) How many 2* do you have? (current game has 14 2*)
3) How many 3* do you have? (current game has 40 3*)
4) How many 4* do you have? (current game has 14 4*, at the point when JG was released)
5) What is your typical pvp score?

The second post is only the stats. This post is about the trends i see for the veteran players.

    1) A lot of the veteran players like to collect characters, even though they are not really good. Some of them even have duplicate characters. While it may meanthey have spent more money and time in the game, i also infer that their deep roster also help them to find interesting combinations. Esp for pve.

    2) Once you have transited into 3* or 4* land, the effectiveness of 2* becomes less. Some players only have 3 2*, probably only for DDQ. In pvp, 2* are not useful at all. I am actually thinking of dropping more 2*, since they are hardly useful. Recently, i just dropped a max 2* wolvie, because i needed a slot prepared for XDP, and i decided that i don't need him at all.

    3) All the vet players have all the 3* characters. While this is currently the right strategy, i can't help but think whether 3* are still going to be useful... D3 is going to release more 4*, and 3* seems to be going the way of the 2*. The next 3* is going to be the 4*, and the next 2* is going to be the current 3*. I am considering to drop those less useful 3*... maybe doc oct or rag?

    4) So how many slots are required to be competitive? At this count, i would say you need roughly about 60 slots, to be able to accomodate all the 3*, and keep the good 2*, and 1 1* (for ddq).

Anyway, just thought of sharing these info with fellow forummites. Feel free to criticise the findings, or the stats.

I am also interested in finding out the stats for those players in 2* land, and transiting from 2* to 3*. How many slots do you have? And what is the breakdown of the 2*, 3* and 4* you have.

    Sorry for the late contribution

    Vhailorx
    64 roster slots
    14 4*
43 3* (building duplicates of cage, kk, if because I got some covers)
6 2* including 1 empty roster slot that I rotate for essentials as necessary
1 1* (juggs, may dabble with spidey when he comes out)
850-950 average PvP score (but I usually hit 1k and then call back down, climbing at the end only to help keep my alliance in the top 100)

I also agree with most of op's conclusions. Is is basically essential to keep all 3*s rostered. It's still not possible to get 3* covers in demand, so one must keep them all for both op's when they are featured and pve essentials. With the weekly boosts now, it also helps to keep everyone covered at 120-140, which makes them quite useful when boosted.

2*s are much easier to get, so rotation is possible if you are willing to keep 2*s sitting in your cover queue. I only routinely use 3, and could easily ditch 2* thor without blinking. 2* storm I only keep for teamups.

Juggs is the only necessary 1*, ever.

    2 1* (Juggs, MBW)
15 2* (OBW dupe, Bag-Man getting dumped for 1* Spidey)
    61 3* (21 dupes)
    20 4* (6 dupes)
    1k in PVP

It's not wise to drop 3* at the moment because of the current PvP format (maxed 3* buffed to L290 does a lot of damage). Until they change the 3* featured PvP to 4* featured PvP, keeping all the 3* you have is still the best way to ensure you can get those 1k/1.3k progression covers with less trouble. You mentioned dropping Rag, but his PvP is coming up after Doom's.

    72 slots
    3 1*
    14 2*
41 3* (duplicate DD purple only for sending team-ups)
    15 4*
PvP ranking.. 825 avg, hit 1k twice now, going to make it a regular thing.

    Edit 08/11 to include XDP.

Yup, as I said in my post, dropping 3* may be a good strategy in the future. Now, I would hold all of them first.

    5) What is your typical pvp score? I can hit between 600-750, but since I don't shield, I usually push hard a couple of events and then coast the rest of the season at around 400's. When I push, I typically get knocked down to the 500's

    1) How many rosters slot do you have? 61 (Two of them are for one star characters).
    2) How many 2* do you have? (current game has 14 2*) 5 (Will drop one when I get X-Force Deadpool).
    3) How many 3* do you have? (current game has 40 3*) 40
    4) How many 4* do you have? (current game has 14 4*, at the point when JG was released) 14 (Will be 15 with X-Force Deadpool).
    5) What is your typical pvp score? I do not play PVP competitively anymore but I guess it would be anything between 850 and over 1000 depending of how many shields I use.
  • For me...

    <30 roster
3+1 2* chars (Thor, Daken, Magneto, plus Bag-Man for fun and because I suddenly got 9 covers in a few days from seasonal pvp)
19 3* chars (only Loki maxed out and only Falcon/Doom/Sentry over 94, over half are 6 covers or less)
    4 4* chars (Wolverine (3 covers), Professor X (2), Ant-Man (1), Jean Grey(1))
pvp score is highly variable. I don't use shields (can't afford them). If I focus hard on it I can hit the 90% mark of the progression score. But it's more fun if I just stay in the 30-50% range and set it aside when I start getting hit a lot. Also, matchmaking tends to intensify bad matchups faster than I can improve my roster. It was much easier to place higher when I only had half my current roster and my only power team was 1* Storm, 2* Thor, 2* Magneto (and 2*Mag specifically never having more than 2 blue covers; that 1-turn countdown is so much more valuable than a 2-turn countdown plus max level benefits).

Basically, I figured out that lowbie Storm/Thor/Magneto is 50/50 or (usually) better against over 90% of the nodes of the game, even many super tough nodes like Growth Industry (Ant-Man)'s multi-wave nodes, while being very efficient on damage taken. It can't beat everything, but it beats enough easily. Lowbie Daken is also very important to get in a good team for conserving health packs. I lucked out on some early Iron Fist and Falcon, and Daken works great with them. Having some early luck on Loki also has opened up some fun experimenting, but I don't have enough covers for potential teammates to rely on him for much. Everything else tends to be just extras, so I focus on characters I like, but even with dismissing half of the possible 3*s roster I'm still starved for roster slots to fit everything else in.

I'm on day 151, if that matters. Played early on for a few weeks, picked it back up about 2-3 months ago and have played every day since. For reference, I dropped 3x$20 on HP for slots.

I don't play PVE much so I don't keep a slot for the rotating 2* essential anymore. The only 2* I need for DDQ is Ares, OBW and Storm. I keep 2* Thor for times when Storm can't be used. And of course 1* Juggernaut.
