keeping ** characters post transition poll

Quick question for you guys, I am transitioning to 3*, but as a matter of fact I don't have any of them with more than 6 covers, and also I have a lot of them with 1~2 covers only.
From the 2*, I have Storm, Hawkeye, Magneto, Thor and Wolverine all maxed out. Since everyone here says so much about OBW, I am building one from scratch. The thing is, should I "go back" and also build an Ares? Is he that good? I'd have to throw away a 3* character with 2 covers to open a roster slot for him. Any thoughts? Thanks guys!0
